ESPN NFL 2k5 only $20.00
http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/06/11/news_6100505.html
Two days ago, many sports fans did a double take when they saw ESPN NFL 2K5 listed at a $19.99 price point on EBgames.com and GameStop.com. However, at the time, officials from the game's developer, Visual Concepts, wouldn't officially confirm the new budget price, saying only, "We will have big announcements regarding the game soon." Apparently "soon" meant "Friday." Today, EBgames.com is advertising the new $19.99 price point on its home page as "just announced." Sources within the retailer confirmed that "The $19.99 launch price for [the] Xbox and PS2 is official and has been confirmed by the publisher."
|
A bold move by ESPN, Madden will still probably out sell it though.
Even for a savings of $30 I'll be sticking with Madden. |
theres no doubt that ill be buying Madden this August, and paying 40 dollars more for the limited edition version. But for 20 bucks, and after reading the review I kinda want to give espn a try. It wont break my bank so I might try it. Mabye start a poll on here if people think they will try it for 20 bucks.
|
I will am gonna buy the anniversery madden, but even if they wanted $50 for espn nfl 2k5 I would buy it.
|
For Twenty Bucks, I'll defintley give it a shot. I'll proboly just split Madden 2005 with my brother again, so it will be like I just bought one game overall.

If you give it a honest try I think that you will like the set up of the game, I am rather excited that it is only gonna cost me $20 this year. IMO you may end up liking it better than Madden. |
I might get it only because my gaming budget might be a little low then. There will be several games out in that time frame (Aug-Sept) that i'm interested in.
|
did anyone else own and play NFL 2K3? i hope they've adjusted it since then cuz the scores always seemed to be around 100 points for both teams in a simulated game and players ran for over 200-300 yards a game and the qb threw for over a 600 yards with 6 or 7 tds, it was ridiculous. other than that the game was awesome. i love how they do the draft talent evaluating better than madden plus i've only drafted like 2 or three players in madded that were starting quality whereas 2k3 reflected that there r usually atleast 4 or 5 extremely talented players capable of starting in each draft.
|
I am buying the game for $20. I have been very happy with ESPN Baseball and Hockey. While I love Madden, I like the $20 price. Chances are I end up getting both though.
|
According to EBGames and Gamestop, ESPN 2k5 will be out July 20.
|
I'll be getting both Espn 2k5 and madden with my nice new employee discount at EB Games :headbange and the cool thing is we get to wear jerseys to work during the promotional periods of all the football games :thumb:
|
I'm a Madden guy, I'm sure NFL2k5 will be fun and at $20 it's a great deal, but there's just something special about Madden.
|
if you really just want to try them out, thats what suprnova.org is for ;), ou can even get the games up to a week before release. but if you do like your free "trial," I definately suggest supporting the company that made it. I really want madden 2k5 cause the 2k4 skins roster kinda blew...
|
well.... on second thought for just $20 and a release date two weeks ahead of Madden, I just might give it a try, what the heck?

what is different about the special edition of madden?

probably ain't gonna happen cuz EA knows their fans will still pay the 50$ price tag. I hope the rumors I've heard of all video game prices droping a bit is true because its gotten ridiculous how much you have to pay for video games. its still not near as bad as neo geo was charging something around $200 a game at its peak until early this decade. |
i don't have any real problems with video game prices (its a lot fo work/content, and most have at least 40 hours or so of gameplay in them... better than movies, interactive too).
sega tried the branding war with EA, EA outspent them and it was over. being the cheaper alternative is really a much better way to get a fanbase. first, its cheap, so you might think "why not?" and pick up a copy... after trying it, you see its almost as good as madden "but its soo much cheaper"... if they get a fanbase, then they can work on making it better. unlike sega, they own media channels which the perfect demographics and can get cheaper ad rates. either way, more competition means either cheaper nfl games, or better ones... so i'm not going to complain. |

The more I read about this game I have to admit it does sound impressive

can someone tell me whats special about the anniversary edition or whatever
|
Electronic Arts has today announced that it will release a Collector's Edition of Madden NFL 2005 exclusively for the PS2 in August. The $59.95 Collector's Edition, which celebrates the popular series' 15th year, will ship with what can only be described as a lot of Madden-related goodness not included with the regular version of the game.
In addition to the regular version of Madden NFL 2005 in limited edition collectible packaging, the Collector's Edition will include: playable classic versions of Madden from the 16-bit era and two from the PlayStation era, a Madden trivia challenge with over 1000 questions, "Madden Moments" spanning the past 15 seasons, and historical playoff teams from the past 15 years--each with their authentic uniforms. Other goodies exclusive to the Collector's Edition will include: bonus video content including footage of "The Madden Phenomenon", "The Music of Madden", and a documentary looking into how the game is developed every year from scratch. |
i have madden from 1989 sitting around somewhere i think... it'll run on 8-bit systems though i believe...
ESPN 2005 looks good. I don't think i'd bu madden for anything but pc... i like my keyboard and my better graphics ;) one thing i don't like about madden though is the announcers... i'd love them if they were anything like real announcers, but everything they say is super generic and repetitive... i really think the should spend more time cleaning that whole system up (and learn how to use cross fades on the speech :P ). |
ESPN is worth getting just to look at its dynamic player animations. there are orders of magnitude more in ESPN than in Madden (check out the new juke stick). the broadcast presentation and extras are super polished but means a lot less to me than constantly being surprised by new contextual animations in the game itself.
if you're bred on Madden it won't change your mind, but for $20 and 3 weeks while you wait for madden you really should partake in all the excellent work Sega and ESPN put into it, just as a football fan. http://www.espnvideogames.com/news/movieArchive.php?gid=7 if you look at one, look at this one... :httr: http://www.espnvideogames.com/_img/videos/nfl2005/nfl2k5_RightStickHands.mpg |
don't like the music they plopped on that, but wow, that's really nice... i think i will check it out.
|
loved that run of Portis on the cowgirls :bigthumb:
I am definately getting this game and an x-box after seeing those clips. I knew there was some difference between the ps2 and the x-box in graphics and framerates but I didn't know it was that much of a difference. has anyone else wondered why they haven't done something to provide players with a way to have their created players names spoken during a game? it would sound a bit choppy probably but I came up with a way they could do it. I don't know how they'd go about doing this with the technology but they should have sets of different common syllables to mix and match and allow the player to get a combination close enough to their name. like for johnson it'd be john added with son or davison would be dave + is + son. cuz i know i 4 one hate hearing "and quarterback throws another touchdown" or "#11 is having a career day." or use the headset feature to speak in your created players name and that sound byte can be inserted in each time they'd be saying the players name. or maybe that's just me, lol. |
yeah, using phonemes like you describe works horribly :( yamaha has done a decent job, but it takes over 700mb of audio and lots (and lots and lots) of processing power... if its gonna sound like total ass, i rather them just say quarterback. Having you speak the name would work, but the headset mics suck and having two voices every sentence would annoy me personally ;)
btw, the sportscenter clip has the redskins hit the packers 38-24, and shows brunnel's stats as 16 of 27, 411 yds, 4 TDs... thats a 26 yard completion average or 15 yards per passing attempt... hot damn... the ESPN crew has much cleaner announcing (though slightly more annoying voice)... they use cross fades properly so it doesn't sound as horribly choppy as madden matchups do... |
Anyone play ESPN NHL Hockey? That is probably ESPN/Sega's best game yet. Can't wait for 2k5 coming in September. May be the only hockey we see this year.
Back to football-I like ESPN's VIP system of scouting your online opponent's tendencies. I'm gonna be like the ol JOe Gibbs pulling allnighters preparing for my matchup. |

I'm pretty sure I saw that Madden is coming out August 15th. |
for Madden I've heard everything from a release date of 8/17 to 8/10 to them possibly bumping it back into July because of the early release date of 2k5.
If anyone finds out definite release dates please let us know! |

ESPN 2k5 goes gold, out July 20 |
july 20th??? hot damn...
|
Cool, very glad to see a July 20 shipping date. I know what I am doing next weekend.
BTW, Anyone see the screenshots on the ESPN videogame website. Would you say that the 3rd or 4th shots showing T.O. (on cover of 2k5) stiff arming Ray Lewis (on Madden 2005 cover) is a coincidence or a subtle attack on EA? |
its possible its being released on different days by different stores but I was told espn 2k5 is coming out on july 21st and madden is coming out on august 11th at eb games. This might change but thats what my assistant manager told me. oh yeah, we got to try NCAA 2005 today and it was pretty kewl. it has this feature measuring how loud the crowd is and the louder the crowd gets, the more your players get antsy, your controller shakes, and the screen shakes as well. its was hard getting used to an x-box controller but it was pretty fun.
|
I could be wrong but don't games, CD's and movies typically come out on Tuesdays? I don't know why but that's how it always seems to work.
I'm kinda pumped to try 2K5, from everything I've read it is just as good as Madden and even better in some respects. I remember watching the 2K4 demo last year in the store and I couldn't believe the presentation of it, it really looked like watching a real game and it had much more atmosphere than Madden. |

You can go to the stores and get it on the 21st, whereas it will "ship" on the 20th. I've been playing Madden so long that I remember the Championship edition they did, with all the teams from the Super Bowls. Loved that game, and while I may get the collector's edition I will definitely be on 2k5. I keep buying Madden for the same reason I drink Bud Light and wear Nikes, brand loyalty. 2K5 may be a better game, and for 20 bucks I'll definitely be finding out, but I'll probably still get Madden. Competition, it's the American way! |
games do come out on tuesday, and the 20th is a tuesday. Im assuming this tuesday is when youll be able to get teh game.
