They could save 2.6MM by releasing Jansen. He may want to step it up...

They save by cutting Hall and Brunell (Thank you Jebus!)

Springs may be steep at 7MM too but he will probably restructure.

It looks like they can make some moves next year if they want to. <sigh>

This is definitely one of my favorite parts of the site.

I think changing our Oline is the last thing we need to do. Jansen hasn't been at the top, but he knows the line, better than bringing in a FA.

Jansen, especially, has been a liability this year (he gets burned with tight ends chipping). I see a hundred posts a day on how the line play needs to improve.

I think we need to bring in young line talent through the draft to push these guys but I don't consider any of them irreplaceable.

Unless he turns it around, Jansen is definitely gone in '08 when it would save us 5MM.

Jansen is getting blow on pass rush, as is Samuels(see Indy game), but removing them isn't gonna do us any good. If we go back to running a bit more, I think the complains about Jansen and Samuels will decrease.

I see how it would save money, but fresh people for the line won't make it better. Just look at 3-4 years ago, and before, when our Line sucked because of the lack of continuity.

Hooskins, the line sucks now. They are just about as bad as they were 3 or 4 years ago.

The difference between Samuels and Jansen is one, Samuels cannot be cut with his cap number. Two, Samuels is getting beat straight up, Jansen is getting beat with help from a tight end.

Our bookends suck right now. I think that having more talent overshadows losing some continuity by cutting a player who cannot do his job.

Yeah, I can say the line may need some room for improvement. My football knowledge curves down a little when talking about the line (which is a shame because they're so important) I simply know what I hear from others.

From those that I've talked to who know about our o-line, the general vibe has been that they're looking suspect, but then again what position hasn't? It's hard to judge they're talent IMO because of the total lack of production across the board on both sides. It's like some complex math equation with a million variables and theories...

Thank God I'm no coach.

When exactly are we going to cut that piece of crap Hall? He is useless! We need to go out and get a QUALITY kicker!

Springs will restructure, if not, bye, bye.

Jansen is a quality tackle. Sure he hasn't been his usual self, but I think we are jumping on the o-line unjustly. Brunell is making the o-line look bad by holding on to the ball too long.

I thought the complaint was that he gets rid of the ball too quickly.

Note that I'm still missing signing bonus info for Rocky, Novak, and Vincent.

I also added a 2007 version of the totals at the bottom of the cap summary page.

hoo is right on the money. if the skins go back to running the football, both Samuels and Jansen play will look better to everyone. and so far, both of their play has been sub par

Why not draft a kicker?

Hall is done! (do I dare say "injury prone") LOL

Re: Cap Sheets Update 10/18/06

Why draft a kicker? there are like 14 Zendajas brothers out there, plus a Jose Cortez, and we could always go find Chip Lohmiller.

There will be some FA kickers available in the offseason. Plus most decent kickers actually don't get drafted, and will be available for cheaper after the draft.

Guess who the Skins drafted in 6th round in 1999?

John Hall!

We are not talking a high round draft choice here.

FA kickers typically are warn out!

Still have no idea why the Skins let Aikers go in 1999?

Nice move.

If you are speaking of screens, then yes...but you don't need quality blocking for a screen except for the side the ball is thrown to. If Brunell is looking downfield, he holds on to the ball too long. He is afraid to make a mistake instead of being aggressive.
I don't want to make this into another brunell thread...so, does anyone know who will be available as a free agent kicker in the offseason?

We drafted Jeff Hall, not John Hall.

We wanted Darryl Hall but we would have had to take John Oates as well.

John Hall came into the league in 1997...so if he was drafted in '99, that's pretty amazing.

Sorry I read Hall and jumped at the wrong name. Anyhow it Jeff Hall and he is a kicker.

Screw FA kickers. The biggest problem the Skins had the last 8 games of last year season was kick offs. Most only made it to the other teams 20.

I think it's safe to say that John Hall has made his last kick for the Redskins (and he missed).

True! There has been much heated talk of chemistry of late. Tossing Jansen prematurely will not impact that favorably

Do you remember before Hall came to the Skins? We seriously lost 2-3 games a season because of the kicker. Hall is done, no doubt about it, but we NEED a free agent kicker, a solid one. Jose Cortez is not solid! Spend 2 mil a season for all I care to sure up this horrible kicking game!

Going 0-2 on FGs when the team was desperate for a kicker didn't help his cause then.

Plus the Redskins' crystal ball was a bit foggy at that time.

at that time? i don't think it ever really cleared up. kinda like a broken magic 8 ball...
