i do!!! i love posting threads that make people think and debate rather than the obvious. I can't stand moaning and complaining why the redskins are bad, i am also guilty of this by way of my bashing of mark brunnell. However i will leave brunnel alone and focus on other things

Anyone notice the founder of NFL Films on the list. Ed Sabol should be selected to the HOF.

if 10k is the mark, there's going to be about 40,000 more RBs going in over the next 20 years...

Looking at his consistent sucess, I think he belongs there.

Unfortunately for him, he played a lot in Seattle when the media didn't know the Seahawks existed and he also played in the era of Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas.

Monk SHOULD be in. Grimm deserves to be be but probably won't be put in the same year as Monk (although I remember seeing a few Steelers inducted in the same year).

Bruce Matthews should DEFINATELY get in. Stepnoski was good but it'll be a travesty if he gets in before Matthews.

2007 SHOULD BE:
*Art Monk
*Bruce Matthews
*Clay Matthews
*Russ Grimm
*Ricky Watters
*Herschel Walker
*Ed “Too Tall” Jones - I know...Cowboy, but he deserved to be in finally.

Plunkett and Stabler should be in soon...not this year though, there are MORE deserving guys to get in first. Art Monk!
Terrell Davis? That has to be a mistake.
'95 - 1117 yards and 7 TDs
'96 - 1538 and 13
'97 - 1750 and 15
'98 - 2008 and 21 (AMAZING)
'99-2001 - injurues, 17 total games and not much.

Rushing for 2000 yards and bringing Super Bowls to Elway before his career ended are his claims to fame.

4 good years usually shouldn't get a guy in the HOF, but they were 4 incredible years. It's a shame injuries ruined his career, or we could be watching him shatter every rushing record there is.

He deserves to be there someday, but this is too early considering his career was pretty much 4 years long.

Re: HOF 2007 Preliminary Nominee List

Buster, is there anyone you wouldn't let in?

Davis just didn't play well for long enough for the Hall. I know he had four great years, but he had three marginal years, too, even accounting for the injuries.

I agree that TD didnt play well for long enough but he did play as good as long as Gayle Sayers did and GS is in.

As far as that list goes, Matthews is the only acceptable candidate.

Thank you! I knew there was somebody who got in after only playing for a few years, but I couldn't remember who.

Re: HOF 2007 Preliminary Nominee List

Yeah, when a guy runs for over 2,000 yards, he's one of the all-time greats, talent-wise. You can't fluke your way to 2,000 yards and 20+ TDs. It has only happened 5 times in NFL history...by some of the all-time greats...O.J., Dickerson, Barry Sanders. Then Jamal Lewis and T. Davis.

He was clearly a great RB. So was Sayers and really, Barry Sanders didn't have a long career; he could've played a LOT longer.

Yes, there's plenty I don't let in, Mr. Smarty Pants...most of that list that was in the link.

The ones I listed, I believe really deserve it.

Sayers was a GREAT, GREAT RB...but if you compare stats, Davis kicks Sayers' butt.

Not taking away from Sayers...just showing Davis was a great RB in his short career.

Randal Cunningham has gotta be the funniest. I think mark brunell has had a better career hahaha.

I heard somewhere that Tagliabue (sp?) was going to be in??? If so, this is very much deserved as he really transformed the NFL into the best sporting league in the world.

Have you looked at Watters' stats? I posted them above. He gained over 1,500 total yards in 7 straight seasons and shares the NFL postseason records for most TDs in a playoff game with 5 against the Giants. He scored 3 TDs against the Chargers in the SB too.

I actually remember him in high school, but that's not why I think he should be in the HOF...I look at his numbers.

Cunningham was a good QB and very fun to watch, but not HOF-caliber in my opinion.

I'll never forget his 90-yard punt though!

Re: HOF 2007 Preliminary Nominee List

TD is no joke, Jim brown only had like 7 good seasons, and he could be considered the best ever. TD has two superbowls, and had 2000 in a season, the guy was rediculous. At his prime, he was HOF material, and head and shoulders above the next best back in the league at the time. Elway didnt throw the ball much during those superbowl wins, it was ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TD

Seriously though - you would put Jamal Lewis in the Hall for one incredble year and two pretty good years?
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/LewiJa00.htm

Sanders had a LOT of great years, and no bad years (IIRC). I wouldn't compare him to Lewis and Davis.

Re: HOF 2007 Preliminary Nominee List

Jamal lewis is a funny case, he got hurt and has never been the same. When he was good, he was HOF good, but that's not enough. TD played many years at a high level.

The Zimmermans 10-30-2006 02:41 PM

Re: HOF 2007 Preliminary Nominee List

I liked watters a lot, he was very good. But those situational stats are not HOF noteable. I like the 7 straight 1500 yard seasons, but that alone is not enough.

Re: HOF 2007 Preliminary Nominee List

Peter King is always saying that Monk doesn't belong because defenses were really zeroing in on Gary Clark anyway. That GC was the real threat. So if that's the case, he better make a big case for Clark to get into Canton

IF he had maintained that level that he lost from injuries, yes.

Davis was able to put together 4 VERY impressive years and a few Super Bowls to Lewis' couple of seasons. He belongs in SOMEDAY...not right after his 5 year waiting period when guys like Monk are still waiting to get in...but he does belong there someday.

That trade with Minnesota was ridiculous...5-for-1 deal, but Walker was a great player for Dallas even though I hate his team with a passion.

How do you figure? He had 2 great seasons and 2 very good seasons. JL had 2 very good seasons and 1 great season.

Neither is (or should be) enough.

Now we're talking!

This RB talk is getting a little out of hand. For the record, TD, HW, and, at this point, JL are not HOF material. I can't defend Sayers being in there with similarly few good years - I don't know much about his career.

6 seasons. kind of like reggie bush. not alot of monsterous stats. but good runner, receiver, and kick returner. if he played in todays game, i doubt he would get in
