Emmit Smith a Starter Again...
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/7429261
Wow this is really surprising. He was horrible last year, but apparently Denny Green likes him again. I thought hed been runnin on empty ever since we rocked him the last game of the year the year before last. What u guys think? |
what happened to shipp? he looked like a pretty good back when healthy and smith is way way past his prime and is gonna be in trouble again behind that o-line.
I don't think the cardinals are gonna win very many games this yeat.
Emmitt was one of the Cowboys I actually liked... but he is way past his prime now. This sorta supports my belief that Denny Green is overrated as a coach.
Shipp will beat him out by the end of camp. Either that or Emmitt will go down with an injury at some point. He's nothing more than a situational/spot starter anymore.
Who cares which one of them starts as at running back, they dont have to be great with all those receivers. Granted you need the run to open up the passing game, but I think Emmit could do that. I bet Emmit and Shipping both get around 7-800 yards next year sharring the load.
Shipp will be starting by week 3. Shipp is a great young back to go with that budding young defense. Emmitt can teach Shipp a lot, but let him do it Monday - Saturday!
Shipp had a great season last year. Emmitt was hurt after their game against the boys!!! Shipp will end up with more of the running duties than Emmitt but Emmitt sells tickets. More than half the people wearing jerseys at Cardinal games have on Emmitt Jerseys. There are alot of Cowboy fans in Az too. And they still go to see Emmitt play.
im sure Fitzgerald will sell a lot of jerseys for them to. but before him, and I guess Boldin now they didnt really have many sellers

I agree Smith is past his prime. But think about it a minute before you dump on Green over this one. For one thing, Shipp never saw the end zone last year. It is very possible this is one of Green's typical "motivational" moves. He had some very good seasons with the Vikings, and is known to employ all types of strategies to light a fire under his players. It's a long way to the start of the season, so let's wait and see how it shakes out. It's very possible this is intended as a temporary move. |
I don't know about any of you, but I really could give two shizits about a washed up Cowboy!
i still think barry was a better back... imagine if he had the line that Emmitt had blocking for him in Dallas. it was sad to see Smith trudge past the record with 2 yards a carry...
imagine if Barry had played 3 more years also...many more yards
smith came out of college a year after sanders, but yet when sanders retired, he was only a year away from the record. whereas smith, w/his awesome line, didn't break payton's record until four years after sanders quit. sanders by far was more talented. it was amazing watching him have both negative yardage runs andhuge td runs be equally entertaining.
the thing about emmit was that he had a great attitude, and was tough. He was always said to be too small, although Barry was pretty small himself, and Emmit had the drive. I believe that Barry was by far better than Emmit though.
i think sanders is another one of those guys that should be put in the topic of great players who u wish could have gotten a ring like marino and tarkenton(sp?). it's kinda suprising though that he never gets mentioned as a great player who never got a ring, but i guess thats probably cuz he retired pretty young and that it came out nowhere.
Sanders was definitely the better pure RB in my opinion over Emmitt. But it's hard to deny what Emmitt accomplished, gotta give him his props, he was very productive for a very long period of time.
Its an accomplishment just playing for that many year. I think we are nearing an end of players playing until they are almost forty, or over forty in some cases. I think the came has stepped up to a new level that just puts more wear on players, plus they are starting younger to.

I agree Barry Sanders was much more exciting to watch. But I have to disagree about Barry being better than Emmitt. Certainly from a team perspective, anyway. The reason I say this?
- Barry Sanders LOST more yardage on more plays AND a higher percentage of plays than ANY other back ever. That very often hurt the team. It was very exciting watching him run back trying to get big yardage instead of 1 or 2 yards gained. When he lost yards, it very often killed the drive. - Emmitt almost always went forward, and consistently got what the team needed. - I have many customers from the Detroit area. THEY - to a man - expressed openly after Sanders retirement, that they hoped he would not return. Of course, new coaching and management came in and totally screwed the team anyway, so it did not matter. But what impressed me was that so many diehard Lions fans did not feel he was good for the team. But, that said, I would still rather watch Barry Sanders or Gayle Sayers run that ANYONE I have seen (except, of course, my all-time fav: the Diesel). |
