Portis Expected to Be Placed on IR

According to XXX Radio, the Redskins have placed Clinton Portis in IR.

If true he will be none to pleased. I bet this season has pissed him off in a major way.

I saw a thread about this on ES. Not sure if its true cause I haven't heard anyone else saying it yet.

Redskins.com says he'll be out for 4weeks.

Can we get this confirmed before I drop him from my fantasy team? :(

Two years in a row I've lost my first round pick to the IR and my 2nd rounder has been one of the bigger busts of the year. I need to draft better.

No confirmation, but the Washington Post is now saying that he's expected to go on IR. Portis Expected to Go on Injured Reserve - washingtonpost.com

He could use a break.

And he is going to be PISSED! The man really likes to be the center of attention.

He may like putting on a show, but I don't agree with him wanting to be the center of attention. While he does want the ball as much possible, he's not too much of a diva to pull himself when he needs a breather, or let the backups shine occasionally.

If he is put on IR, hopefully that will allow him to get back to 100% and be ready and hungry for next season.

Re: Portis Expected to Be Placed on IR

Bram Weinstein reported it's possible and that he will have surgery on his shoulder.

If this is true, Gibbs has made two very good choices at this point of the season.

I think they should wait to see what Campbell does. Last year they put Patten on IR and we had to go to Seattle with Jacobs even though Patten had gotten well. I know it's a million to one shot (doc), but who knows?

Have you looked at the depth chart?

Skins have 4 running backs (well now 3).

Why wait?

Do the surgery now. We have Betts and Duckett. Springs didn't have the surgery when he should have and we lost him for half of this season....

I agree...if he needs surgery to repair all his ailments, DO IT NOW!!!

The guy has been banged up all year. He should rest and heal up to get ready for our Super Bowl run next year!!! ;)

yea screw this season, get right and comeback next year. let campbell go through his bumps and get exp. and next year we should be amazing. (course thats what we said this season)

What happened? two words, Predictions & Expectations.

Re: Portis Expected to Be Placed on IR

I havent heard it yet, if its true I think its really stupid. Very similar to jumping the gun with Patten last year and putting him on IR.

** IN NO WAY DO I THINK THE FOLLOWING WILL HAPPEN **

But looking at the next three games, they arent games I expect to win (except maybe TB), but they are all in my mind winable. God forbid we rip off 3 straight games and have some hope of making things interesting and Portis is on IR, stupid!

However, as soon as we are mathmatically eliminated (and dont take this as saying I think we have a realistic shot), then rest Portis. He was really banged up all year long and I think the extra rest will do him good for 2007.

This is completely false. Portis was just on the John Thompson show and expects to play again this season.

I'm starting to wonder where the information came from. The Washington Post, XXX Radio, and 980 Sportstalk (until the John Thompson show) were all reporting it.

This is strange. I don't know why the post would have that article based solely on speculation.

In the interview, Portis said that the surgery went well and he has not spoken to one person in the organization yet.

I can't imagine he would lie on the show and I would be even more surprised if they made the decision without consulting him. I don't think that would sit well with him.

Re: Portis Expected to Be Placed on IR

on comcast sports net they said that he would probably go on ir shortly after consalting with team officials. he was also talking and said he would try to talk the team officials out of doing it, but it is probably going to happen
yep.. we sure did think Superbowl this year. What the HELL happened??? I'm still so confused how it all got so screwed up!?!?!?
we got excited, went out and overspent on the wrong players while letting good ones go. (clark, lavar, harris, and prioleau's spots have been downgraded this year). a new offensive system (that isn't geared towards our talent) hurt, and injuries hurt too, so did a lack of depth (but we dealt with that last year without being THIS bad).

that said, portis was on sportstalk 980 at 5:15pm today and said he hasn't talked to gibbs yet, it'll be 4-8weeks to heal, and he's not sure what's going to happen yet. I'd think with our depth and our record, it'd be best for him to get everything fixed ASAP and use the time to heal and get ready for 2007.

I know players want to play, but honestly, if we're 5-9 with 2 games left, what would be the point? I mean, i'm fine with nor IR'ing him just in case campbell wins 6 in a row or something crazy (it's not like you'll get anyone at this point to fill that spot and help the team), but i wouldn't throw him back in if we're totally out of it.

can you even drop? can't do it in my league...
i'll tell you being able to play Colston as a TE is crap...yahoo hasn't fixed that...

Far as i'm concerned, i want portis back (after he has healed up), even if its only for one game...he has the whole offseason to rest.

Haha, I love that, I have Closton in both my leagues, this guy is money. I was the bright eye that picked him up, thank youu.

But one league I play him as WR with Gates at TE, and in the other league, I dont have a good TE, so its like I have 4 recievers.

ESPN just reported that he's on the IR...its official...i think its dumb. campbell and clinton need to play with eachother...

how bad is the hand? finger?

Portis is gonna be pissed, I hope we dont have another LaVar incident brewing here.

BTW the title of this thread should be changed, now that it is official.

that fucking sucks. He's not gonna be happy at all. Oh well at least he'll be healthy by next season.

Pocket$ $traight 11-14-2006 08:23 PM

Re: Portis Expected to Be Placed on IR

I don't get it. I remember Emmitt breaking his hand and playing shortly after. T.O. broke his hand this year and played soon after. What would cause the Redskins to end Portis' season?

Portis said is was a clean break and that surgery was successful. The season is essentially over but it isn't officially over.

I'd wait we are definitely eliminated from teh playoffs before putting him on IR.

so is he, or isnt he, on injured reserve? i say wait until the skins are eliminated. then make a move. but as long as we still have a chance, work on getting him healthy
