Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Although we've heard rumors that Redskins coach Joe Gibbs will pack it in after the 2006 season, a league source tells us that the Hall of Fame head coach is openly talking about plans for the 2007 season.
The source believes, based on Gibbs' comments, that the coach will stick around for at least two more years. In 2004, Gibbs surprisingly emerged from retirement after more than a decade out of the game. At the time, there were rumors that Gibbs' wife nudged him back into coaching so that he could hire their son, Coy, as an assistant coach. Mrs. Gibbs, as we'd heard it, wanted to get Coy out from behind the wheel of the Busch car he had been racing as part of Gibbs' highly-successful NASCAR venture. In Gibbs' second year back with the team that he led to three Super Bowl wins, the 'Skins qualified for the playoffs and won on the road at Tampa before losing at Seattle. Combining last year's success with a near-annual flood of big-name free agents and the hiring of offensive guru Al Saunders, the expectations for 2006 were sky high. Like most Redskins teams over the past seven season that were saddled with high hopes, the 2006 version of the franchise has failed. But Gibbs apparently won't be slinking away with a potentially tarnished legacy; look for him to stick around for at least one more season, probably two. Possibly, more. |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
What an idiot. He has a 5yr contract. Of course Gibbs will be back next year, AND the year after. He doesn't go down losing. If you don't like it, find another team to love.
|
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Talking about Gibbs like that is like taking a dump in a Church.

take it easy, do you know for sure that gibbs will be back next year? no, no one does. |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
he says he will. I'd probably take the man at his word. I don't think hed end his career losing, AND shrinking away.
|
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
when he said he'd be here 5 years, i expected 5 years. A GM and releasing excess staff may help, but i don't think gibb himself is the problem, since last year his offense maxed out the abilities of his players and the defense held its own... i really think saunders hiring has hurt more than helped so far and the FO (or whoever is in charge) has made many poor personnel decisions.
|
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Of course he's going to be here for the full 5 years. That's all he's said since he came back. It's these idiotic rumors from "league sources" that keep wanting him to step down early.
5 years with one coach? What a concept. If Campbell comes in and looks promising, that could really energize him much like what Romo has done for Parcells. |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Obivously Gibbs will be back, especially if Campbell shows some kinda life. Even if we end up 5-11, I personally feel he will come back.
|
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Why would anybody not want Gibbs to be back for another two years? Most of us at the beginning of his contract realized that it might take 5 years to get us back to where we need to be. Why can't people be patient anymore nowadays?

Exactly(that Guy.) WTF is this guy talking about? "Oh brother!!" Whattttt? Gibbs may never leave, and his soul will be in Ashburn, Landover and every where that great man has coached(DC wasn't his first gig newbies.) Gibbs had to sell his share in the Falcons to take the reigns back when Snyder begged him to come back. His wife, Pat, says she would rather he sleeps at Redskin park when we lose because he will not sleep. If there is man who has ever given more of himself to this great American game we rejoice, cry, hug, dance, jump for, kiss our friend's dog(pepps/baron) other than JOE GIBBS, well then there is nobody else. "Oh brother!! 2 more years of Gibbs?" WTF? Go follow the Tuna around the country, leave us our roots and leave us be. Please. We used to call stuff like that "pretendica", go pretend with one of your future 8 or so band wagon teams through the rest of you life. Hey, Chargers look good this year, go look there. as always Hail 44 |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
coaching stability and the redskins? what a concept. i personally wouldnt mind a 2 or 3 year extension.

I'd like to know your source on that? Hail JG 44 |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
So, you want Gibbs to go and leave it to Daniel Snyder to fix things?
:smashfrea |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
This is just Gibbs's third year back with the team. We say we want stability because we're tired of change, but the first hint of adversity we want to start changing all over again. Unfortunately we cant have it both ways, unless someone can suggest, or bring forth someone better than Gibbs for the job, then to consider him not being here is a moot point.

Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?

Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
look here old man no need to call names you are the jackass( bigskinsfan61)if he had some sense he would try to build through the draft and not buy people like carter and archuleta he also should have benched brunnell 2 weeks ago every knew it was time but his mummy faced ass and as for you tafkas of course it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out it was a cut and paste i have nothing to gain by typing 500 words for a couple of smart ass lames to tear down and criticize I hope he doesn't collapse from low blood sugar on the sideline ha ha ha! Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Blasphomy!!!
I have never heard of a gibbs-hating redskins fan thats like a god-hating christian.... this has gotta be some cowboys fan asshole or something. |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Of coarse he'll be back, he knows by 2008 Brunell will have mastered half of Saunders offense, and he doesn't want to miss it.

Never a big college fan, but I alway's rooted for penn state, I would have stayed in state but Rutgers hasn't had much to root for, but I am a big Rutgers fan right now, in fact I am thinking of taking a trip to the west virginia game, a bunch of my buddies who went to Rutgers are driving a mobile home down there for the game. |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
dont look for gibbs to go quietly in the night. He is not to blame for the poor results we have seen this season. I look to one thing as the spring board for our downfall. Portis came back way too soon. He never should have played opening night. I think you see a big difference today with JC behind center. Well i hope we see a big difference. Look for lots of betts and duckett.

well i dont know if we should blame gibbs for the blunders or a hard headed franchise player who rushed himself back into the lineup. Portis came back way too soon. and i see that as the downfall of this season and the reluctance of Brunell to be able to make down the field throws. |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
It is the head coach who has too put his foot down other coaches do it why not the mighty joe gibbs hey they didn't let patten play last year in the playoffs and he said he was 100% Gibbs does not hold players accountable until it is too late i.e portis and brunell!!

Ok I might be able to understand the quote above about Brunell but Portis? Dude wake up what games have you been watching. This guy blocks, runs, and leads by example. Also your title suggest you really do not approve of Gibbs. Well my friend I do not approve of you!!! |

I hate these threads...next he'll say something to the effect of how he's sorry if everyone can't handle open discussion of topics like this...people need to read their own posts before they put them up.
On another note, if Gibbs is so bad that he should be canned, who SHOULD be coach? Who out there is better? |

Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Of course we should want Gibbs to remain coach. Doesn't this team have enough instability already. For the good of the team, I'd love to see Gibbs hand off personnel responsibilities to a true GM. That and a recommitment to rebuilding through the draft is what I'd like to see. Gibbs the GM has sabotaged Gibbs the coach with terrible offseason decisions.

Would you expect the new GM to make tweaks or completely change thte team? Suppose we brought in a GM (whatever that really means), don't you suppose that new GM would want to put his imprint on the team and to do that he might have to completely gut and revamp the team. Now if he does this, we're talking wholesale changes again. Does Gibbs stay for that? Would he want to? |

By that, I mean focus on adding studs to win the battles in the trenches, and much of the rest will take care of itself. Our D-line is a real weakness outside of Griffin and Daniels. O-line depth and age is becoming more of an issue as well. Any good GM would address those needs first. |
Re: Oh brother!! 2 MORE YEARS OF GIBBS?
Whenever Gibbs leaves, I want him to be the one to decide. He's earned that right.
