Bill Maas

I hate to watch games with this guys announcing. He is just a freakin' retard. He either states the obvious on the field or he makes some stupid comment. And what was with the thing where it was his political bit that were supposed to relate to the Skins' problems. This guy is just painful to listen to. Anyone else agree?

This is what happens when you have a terrible team. You get to listen to the 7th string do the game.

I was just breaking that down to my wife. How your team REALLY has to suck to have to listen to this prick

Yea that must be it and Fox must put him on some game and then just let him be happy. He is prob. like that guy from Office Space who get moved from place to place with his swinglike stapler and they just keep him around to be nice. what was his name?

This is exactly why former players should not be commentating games. Maas, Johnston, Phil Simms...they're all horrible. Even Theismann can get annoying from time to time. The only exception is Aikman.

Me and my friends were saying the same thing all game long. How come we have to deal with this numbskull? And can the Redskins catch a break from these guys? The Bucs were a 2-7 team coming into the game but all Maas and the other guy had to talk about were the positives of the Bucs. He might of said one or two positive things about the Redskins. I muted the tv after awhile cuz me and my friends just couldn't take that bozo talking anymore.

Yeah, we did here too. But what's up with the 5 second delay on the Triple X ESPN stations? I can't even turn down the TV and flip on the radio anymore. Does The Danny not trust Sonny, Sam and Larry to keep it clean?

As much as I hate the obnoxious prick Maas, he was bang on with some of those keys to cleaning up Washington. When they showed the graphic of all our big name coaches along with their fancy titles (associate head coach, assistant head coach, coordinator etc.) - that has really made the skins organization a laughing stock this year - we deserve it. Can't win by buying players, and as Danny has now learned, can't win by buying coaches either.

Of Gibbs, Saunders, Buges, and Breaux, we only need 1.
Of Williams, Blache, and Gray, we only need 1.

Meanwhile Mangini, Payton, and their no-name coaching staffs are getting the job done in NY and NO.

If anyone is interested, you can go to Fox Sports and comment on the "quality" of the announcers of this game, specifically Bill Maas. The website is FOX Sports - More Sports - Feedback. Personally, whether a fan of the Skins or not, his behavior and comments were totally inappropriate and unacceptable. Even The Washington Post already has a survey regarding his non-journalistic biased banter. I encourage you to help Fox Sports see to it that his contract is quickly terminated so he can go back to sniffing glue.

The whole Free Agency thing is way overblown. It's a media tool. They throw up the total contracts we gave out number, which sounds really high but is a fictitious amount we will never pay. Contracts are spread out to lessen the bonus cap hit per season. Also you can look at the teams that draft high in the draft and look at the money they dole out with mixed results.

Our Free Agents over the first two years were good, this year they haven't panned out yet, but evaluate these same players at the end of next season and see where they are.

The titles thing is moot. It doesn't matter. The QB changes thing is obvious and everyone wants that to be stable. Maas did nail the Tampa Running theme early in the game, but he is still the worst announcer I have ever heard.

To me, the "too many cooks in the kitchen" argument is getting a little old. During Gibbs 1.0, he still had Bugel coaching the line, Simmons coaching the tight ends, Breaux w/ the running backs, Jack Burns doing whatever, and Dan Henning doing something.

The problem isn't the number of coaches or whether their titles conflict.

It's the players this pathetic front office has assembled.

I think this Maas character doesnt really know what he is talking about, because many teams have an Oline coordinater, TE coach, QB coach, D coach, defensive back coach. I think all teams do. WTF is he thinking, that Gibbs coaches the offense, the line, the QB, and calls the plays???? No team in the NFL does that.

That was what I was saying. We do not have an unusual number of coaches, just some unusual titles. WHO CARES?

So according to Maas we would have won more games this year if we had given our coaches different titles?

memphisskin 11-19-2006 10:18 PM

Re: Bill Maas

Maas is an idiot. The reason we have so many coaches with asst. head coach in the title is to keep the staff together. You can only sign an asst. coach from another team if you give the guy a promotion. So by naming all these guys "asst. head coach" you keep them in the fold since there really isn't a title between asst. head coach and head coach.

I don't think we have a problem with our chain of command, or our personnel. I think we have a problem of perception. 2 years ago we were a bad football team, and through 11 games last year we were a bad football team. We got hot at the end of the year, but in the playoffs we eked by the Bucs with the lowest total yardage for a playoff winner in NFL history. I think Gibbs was trying to address that with Saunders and it hasn't worked out as of yet, but it will.

Yeah, I keep wondering about the great run at the end of last year. But if you look at it, we barely beat the Cardinals thanks to a punt return for a TD by a guy who's no longer on the team. Then we beat a very bad Rams team with their third string QB, kicked the crap out of flawed Cowboy and Giant teams, and came from way behind to beat the Eagles without McNabb and Westbrook.

So I don't really know how "great" or "talented" that team was, as much as we milked the most out of what we had against bad teams at just the right times.

Why is everyone getting all bent out of shape over this? When you bring in a bunch of overpaid FA's, have 20 coaches and your 3-7, your going to get lit up by the announcers. WTF do all those coaches do? Both Gibbs and Saunders son's are on the offensive coaching staff. WTF do those two do? Watch video all day? What does Breux do? What does Jack Burns do? I'll tell you what they do. Collect a fat paycheck. Mass was right on the money with his comments and I didn't have a problem with it. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Yes, but the players we bring in are based on the assessments of the individual coaches. Blache and Lindsey bring in their guys from Chicago (HoldMan, Daniels), Gray and Williams bring in their own guys (Vincent, Prioleau), etc. Its almost as though each of these coaches is getting way too much say in who we bring in (because of their previous experience as a headcoach/coordinator).

That Guy 11-20-2006 03:25 PM

Re: Bill Maas

well, you should be able to bring in guys that know your system. for depth it's not a terrible idea, but whoever thought these signings were ideal needs to get taken out of the personnel loop. bringing in jeff posey for vet min doesn't matter. screwing up the cap with crap like archuleta's contract are future killers.

and while maas was horribly annoying, at least he was well researched and accurate with his information (though he kept leaving the 'A off of saleave'a's name:/). joe buck and some of the other guys that have done skins games clearly didn't know nearly as much about what was going on with the team.
