O Line
I made this same thread last year and then we won six games in a row. That's not going to happen this time so I will say what I said then. The O Line has been so overrated in the past it's always been like "we have bookend tackles" yeah right and now they are just plain bad. They can't hide anymore. They are an embarassment! The D line is bad as well. No heart overpaid punks. I am sick of our big boys. They are garbage.

Re: O Line
revamp the whole team except the stud players: campbell, portis, moss. everyone else must go GO GO!!!!!
|
Re: O Line
hopefully we'll address the issue through the draft and/or free agency...Max Starks-Steelers, Leanord Davis(beast)-Cardinals, Mike Gandy-Bills

Disagree 100%. I've seen enough turnover to last me a lifetime. We need to add a CB, a DT, DE, K, and P. We don't need turnover on offense, just time to get used to the system and let JC develop. |
Re: O Line
i was just kidding dude

Re: O Line
I think the problem is on the interior, mainly LG and C. Neither Dock or Rabach are particularly stout in pass protection. When teams get pressure it always seems to come up the gut.
|
Re: O Line
I think the problem is on the outside just as much as the inside.
|
Re: O Line
Jansen and Samuels have struggled on pass plays. Rabach has been manhandled a times, and Thomas and Dockery, I am not sure about. Some times, I think it may be the system, because there seems to be, to many guys coming threw unblocked. It reminds me of the Spurrier days.

Re: O Line
I say we draft that monster LT out of Michigan. That guy is a freak.
|
Re: O Line
The way we are going, we should be able to draft anyone we want.
|
Re: O Line
Samuels played much better today. I think Dockery has actually been one of our better linemen this hyear. He makes progress every year.
It might be time to draft a replacement for Jansen. He looks HORRIBLE. |
Re: O Line
Samuels looked better today, but I have not forgiven him for the Colts game. Jansen continues to look like s**t.
|
Re: O Line
I don't like to make accusations about players' motives, but there are times when I can't help but wonder if Jansen doesn't have his mind more on his broadcast career than his playing career.
|
Re: O Line
Instead of O line, this thread should be tittled O-ver rated. I can't believe these guys have played this bad.
I think Jansen has given up a sack in every game dating back to the Titans game (not positive but pretty sure). Its upsetting as well because most of the o-line is very media friendly and Gibbs considers most of them to be core players. Buges has to start subbing-in some of the younger guys like Molinaro in order to see where the team stands on the o-line before the draft and free agency. |

Great point, and that's disappointing especially since he's one of the main faces of skins to others in the league, fans, and media. |

I say we take him off all those Redskins shows and put Brunell there. |

Brunell might cry if someone asks him a tough question. What am I saying this is the skins nobody's going to do that |
Re: O Line
Perhaps the O-line will play better when we establish an identity as a team. I'm trying to figure out whether we want to be a running team, or a passing team, and the O-line suffers as a result. The running plays we utilize this year are not the same plays Portis ran us to the playoffs with last year. I'm not so sure our linemen are the type to run many of the stretch plays Saunders likes to utilize. In KC he had lighter, active linemen with more of an ability to run to the edge. I don't know that we nedd to change personel as much as we need to change the method of attack.
In defense of Samuels I think in most games he acredits himself well. He did a great job today of riding his man far to the outside, and beyond the pocket. The only time he has trouble is with the speed rushers, as do most OT. He had trouble with Dwight Freeney mainly because of his speed. I think once the team actually establishes itself as arunning team once again, the pass blocking will improve, however they must commit to the run, and stay with it. We had far too few rushing atempts today. |

The problem is that professional football players who play the offensive line are supposed to be able to do both. I've had enough of the "identity crisis" crap. Let's not mistake Redskins football with the pre-Bill Callahan Nebraska Cornhuskers. The way we hear it sometimes you'd think these guys can run block, but they can't be expected to pass block. They'd prefer to run it, be smashmouth, that sort of thing -- but they're not showing they can be good at that. You cannot pound the ball 50 times and expect to win in this league. You must have balance. You must give the quarterback time to throw, and yes, occasionally, it would be nice if they could pick up a blitz or two. |
Re: O Line
I actually thought the O-Line played their best road game of the year today. The problem is that Betts is not quite elusive and not quite a bruiser. He's a tweener. He's not a back that is ever going to scare defenses the way a healthy Portis does. He found a little niche as Brunell's third down safety-valve, but he is a journeyman. I would like to see Duckett become the feature and run power plays the rest of the year. Counter Gap and Gut. Quit trying to capture the edge. Betts can't outrun anyone anyways. (Basically, we chuck Saunders for the old school Gibbs plays). We can do it now that we have Jason Campbell and his freakin lazer beam throws. Pound it, Pound it, 18 yard deep in. Defenses start to cry.
We need to put Saunders on a train and say, "Thanks for the info, and sorry it didn't work out. We'll hold on to this playbook just in case. No, no we'll call you." |

What? Do you mean passing attempts? In any case, going into the final drive, the Skins had run 44 plays. 22 Runs and 22 passes. Pretty balanced, don't you think? It all comes back to the D. The D let the Bucs control the game with the run. 54 offensive plays in a game is terrible. |
Re: O Line
we need to draft and sign defense. CB, DE, DT, LB, S, it's all a mess right now :(
oline isn't perfect, but it's not as bad as a bunch of other teams. we have no real depth though. |

Re: O Line
We were also hurt severely by portis' absence, bett's attempting to pick up the blitz is like the redskins trying to stop the run, IT DOESNT HAPPEN
|
Re: O Line
i CAN'T STAND when people say "we win when we get 25+ rush attempts", it's like saying "We win when we get to kneel the ball down at the end of the game". Rush attempt are a result of a win in general, if you get a lead you can run the ball and kill the clock, regardless of success in the run game. However, when you are losing, you can't run the ball too much if it's not gaining yardage, cause you waste downs and put too much pressure on your QB on third down. I think we might have been able to win that game if we actually passed more on 2nd down and threw more on third. Plus our defense gave up about 40 minutes in possession, so the offense only got the ball like three times in the second half, so F the run, especially if your gonna give it to BETTS. However, I fully support the run if we give the ball to Duckett more, that really bruises up the opposing team, they did it with allstott, we should have answered right back with a heavy dose of duckett, neither team could tackle those big guys.
