Walt Harris
man i hated him when he was here but he has 6 interceptions for the 49s so far... that's 3 times more than our whole team. Maybe he wasn't as bad as everyone thought so now he can go down with antonio pierce and fred smoot as people our front office let go when they should have kept them.
|
Re: Walt Harris
I can't believe how many tackles this defense has missed, how many coverages the secondary has blown, how few sacks and turnovers this defense has produced, and how many yards the defense has given up. I yearn for the Walt Harris days.
|
Re: Walt Harris
I am just amazed at how bad this defense is...it is laughable. This defense is Mike Nolan bad...pathetic.
|
Re: Walt Harris
I think it has become very obvious that he and Ryan Clark were allot more valuable than anyone knew. I don't think anyone doubted he could cover, he was very weak at tackling. I think Williams seems to be very into tackling defenders, but you have to have balance between tackling and covering.
|
Re: Walt Harris
I'm surprised more people haven't talked about this recently.
Harris isn't great, but at least he could challenge Rogers, or at least replace him in the staring line-up in order for Rogers to get his head straight. |
Re: Walt Harris
Well Harris is definitely better than Rogers. Any CB that can catch a ball right to him is better than Rogers.
Rogers is an enormous bust (I am talking 46 double F). Chalk up another one for the worst front office in the NFL. |
Re: Walt Harris
I think it may be a little early to label Rogers a bust. He's not a top 10 pick though. I brought up in another thread that I wanted Williams (OMG, how bad would that have been?) but also I pined for Ware/Merriman. I would have loved to have gotten a pass rusher from the draft last year. However, I'm willing to give him next year. I think he needs to play more physical, I think that's scheme, whatever it is, they need to let him play however he feels comfortable cause right now, whatever he's doing, it ain't working.

Re: Walt Harris
And you gotta love having Archuletta, the highest paid safety EVER, flourishing in his new career as a bench warmer. Along with Ryan Clark playing great for Pitt and what Walt is doing in SF... Makes me SICK.
Someone should go on the "blogging with Vinny Cerrato" portion of the Skins homepage and just cuss him out. We DEF make the worst player personnel decisions in the league. |

I didn't realize Clark was playing great or that Walt had done much in SF except for one 3 INT game |
Re: Walt Harris
three ints against oakland...2 ints off s. wallace against seattle.... thats not really impressive
i mean looking at stats like that is like looking at the 9ers record and saying their better than the skins...come on they play a lot of terrible teams |
Re: Walt Harris
wow...i find it funny that the same guys who wanted Harris' head last year are now blaming the FO for releasing him. This is the same dude that played like absolute trash while he was here, the same guy that EVERY Redskins fan wanted out. I mean it got to the point last year where I expected Harris to get beat everytime they threw at him. And no one even try to tell me otherwise.

Oh, and in all likelihood, the 49ers probably ARE better than the Redskins. |

I was never part of the "let's bash the hell out of Walt Harris" crowd. He was victimized at times, and held his own at other times. He was no worse that Carlos Rogers is now. And Harris wasn't a #9 overall pick. |

Yeah, well keep that thought in mind as the team curns the roster next spring. Some of this years dogs could be beasts next season just because they have a year in this system under their belts. |

Why couldn't they have been "beasts" this season? It's always about 'next season' for the Redskins, isn't it? This team doesn't seem concerned with keeping players around long enough to learn the "system". |
Re: Walt Harris
I was calling for walt harris's head last year and I meant it. I dont' care what he's done elsewhere he was a weak link here...
BUT Ryan Clark was a very bright spot on our D. I don't understand why we let him go. I guess the AA thing was there, and hindsight is 20/20, but we need help at LB (holdman) and across the D-line a lot more. Ryan Clark was a SOLID safety. He hit hard and covered, and he was one of my favs last year, mainly because as unheralded as he was, he was a force in the secondary that you had better respect... He's doing quite well for pitt this year. My neighbor is a pitt nut. he goes to all the games and all that and he absolutely loves Ryan Clark. From what I've seen he's done well at pittsburg too. |

walt harris made vet min. he'd be a lot better than using a roster spot on $30mill archuleta, rumph or vernon freakin fox.

We DEF make the worst player personnel decisions in the league.
When will Skins fans WAKE UP!!! Gibbs gets the final call on all personnel/coaching moves since he returned 3 years ago. I'm sick of everyone blaming The Danny and Vinnie. If Gibbs says he wants someone, then by God, The Danny will spend to get him, be it a coach or a player. Gibbs chose to go after Brunell as his initial move. Some of his acquisitions have been solid (Washington, Portis, Moss, Griffin). It bothers me most that Gibbs doesn't structure cap expenditures in a way that allows us to hold onto solid players like Smoot and Pierce. He prefers the paying big money for the castoffs from a terrible 49ers team. Go figure. |
Re: Walt Harris
gibbs seems to delegate an awful lot, so it is possible that he's following bad advice... otherwise he's not doing the proper due diligence and the scouting staff needs to be revamped and gibbs needs to be remove from his GM duties. he said he talks over all the moves with vinny and dan snyder, so they do have some kind of input.
|
Re: Walt Harris
walt harris sucked, couldnt cover, and couldnt tackle once he gave up a completion. Those were probably just interceptions he got in zone coverage, which every OTHER team runs effectively.
|
Re: Walt Harris
I put in a call to Joe2. I suggested that he give my son's Freshman D coach a call. The entire Defensive unit could either run laps or LEARN how to tackle. At the moment, THAT would be a shitload of laps
I am just amazed at how bad this defense is...it is laughable. This defense is Mike Nolan bad...pathetic.
I know our defense WAS bad but since Brandon Moore was promoted to the starting lineup along with Keith lewis our defense has found a groove. Remember the name of Brandon Moore he will be a very special player. Walt has also been holding down his side of the field and making some big plays.
Now we just need to send Derek "Blows Ass" Smith to the bench and keep that bust Sammy Davis off the field. I really wish Nolan would just get over his D.Smith man crush though... |
Re: Walt Harris
In my opinion the defense stated going down hill from the time they let Pierce go, followed by Clark & Harris.
I am sick of seeing too many ex-Redskins go to other teams an have good seasons over the last few years. It's hard to believe the missed tackles, penalties, being out of place. That leads me to believe there is a lack of basic fundamentals that the players have decided to either ignore or have forgotten. If the coaching staff fined players for missed tackles, stupid penalties etc. I wonder how quickly the players would get their heads in the game. |
Re: Walt Harris
Hindsight sure is 20/20. At the end of last season if we took a poll I'm sure that an overwhelming number of people would have been in favor of letting Harris go. Now people are crying that it was a bad move. Hilarious.

Would not

Re: Walt Harris
Please..though it does look this year like Harris is a stellar nickel corner compared to Rumph and Kenny Wright, he stunk when he played here. He would get owned if he had to cover any #1 or #2 receiver as Rogers has had to this year. Dude sucks!

Matty, when our pass defense goes from where it was last year to where it is now, don't you think it's a safe assumption that there indeed were some bad moves that were made by this front office? All one has to do is look at the record of this team over the past few years to see that the system in which this organization handles personnel decisions is seriously flawed. |

I was simply stating that it's funny that a player most of the fans wanted to ride out of town last year is now being called a mistake in hindsight. |
Re: Walt Harris
I always thought the criticism of WH was unjustified. Sure, he wasn't starting material, but as a nickel he played really well here. Plus, you have to accept that every cb gets burned at least a few times a year.
I don't think it was a personnel decision to let him go as much as a cap decision. We had to trim a lot of fat because the cba was ending & no one knew if a new deal would be signed. Thankfully (or not, maybe we'd be better off if we didn't have that cap $ to bring in AA, AC,etc.) there was a new cba, but that came only after we had to cut some guys. The cap & the end of the old cba also had to do w/us not re-signing Smoot & Pierce. Gibbs & co. knew that cap hell was on the horizon in 06. Basically, all of our overspending caught up w/us & still is impacting the team, as we had to let good players go. |
Re: Walt Harris
Smoot will always be looked at as a tough loss, everyone liked him, we really should have given him the money.
|
Re: Walt Harris
Smoot will always be looked at as a tough loss, everyone liked him, we really should have given him the money.
I agree. That whole "He's not our #1 corner so he wont make more money than Springs." Might have been the dumbest thing I've heard from Gibbs. Lots of players weren't our #1 something, but they certainly made money like it. As far as Walt Harris, I liked him as a 3rd corner, but I certainly wasnt crying to see him go. |
Re: Walt Harris
i think they made smoot a reasonable offer. all you have to do is see how smoot made out against steve smith last year to know he isnt a legit number one. and walt harris was what he was. an ok nickel back that some people around here used as a whipping boy. sure looks a helluva lot better than rumph or wright, doesnt he?

Re: Walt Harris
I hope Rumph never sees the field again, he plays like he's mentally retarted, no joke.
