We almost gave the game away

We are very lucky our D kept it up on the last Carolina drive, because those two false start penalties almost killed us. The game plan at that point was simple, run the ball and make them burn timeouts. Instead we get two false starts. Unacceptable. It is an insult to Gibbs and the defense, because they worked very hard to keep the Panthers in check. If we had lost this game, that would have been one of the points that would have been brought up.

And on a side note, I think this may have only be me, but did we get away with a pass interference? To me when Jake chucked that ball up, Smith cut to the ball in the endzone, and was bumped way off route by Vernon Fox. Did anyone else catch that?

Re: We almost gave the game away

They were nervous at the end, but they pulled it out. Could have been cleaner there to run out the clock, but if that's all we have to bitch about, things are looking up! ;)

I didn't notice a PI--the ball was "up for grabs" at that point, and Smith and Jake were on different pages--Smith was outside, Jake threw a post to Taylor. Would have been a VERY tough call to make at Fed Ex.

Yeah it would have been a tough call, but I have seen tougher calls made, so I was just wondering if anyone else caught the bump by V.Fox.

Dude....we won. Don't be harshing the buzz by mentioning plays that almost cost us the game.

Unlike most fans here, I don't blindly follow my team. This was a good win because we dominated Carolina, unlike the Dallas. But at the same time, if we wanna finish strong we have to make improvements on silly mistakes.

I am not a tool who is just gonna sit around, I will be critical.

JWsleep 11-26-2006 08:46 PM

Re: We almost gave the game away

Actually, Gibbs himself pointed out the two false starts in his post game remarks. He was very critical for exactly the same reason as hoos--could have cost us.

But no buzz will be killed! We WON!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

we are really bad, if you think about it we should be 2-9, carolina and dallas were both pretty lucky wins.

We almost beat the the Vikings. We almost beat the Titans. We almost beat the Bucs. We're almost 7-4. "Almost" doesn't get you anything in this league.

We SHOULD have beaten the Vikings We should have beaten the Titans and honestly im furious we arent 7-4 right now becuase those are games we had and gave away like candy at Holloween.

but anyway there was no way steve smith could have gotten there no matter what you wanna say, Sean Taylor was showing some real spead getting to that ball

Call it what you want. However, Springs $#^$'d up on that pass to Smith. I was a CB, SS and utility DB. If the ball is in the air and catchable you are told to do anything necessary to make sure it will not be caught for 6. Call it dirty if you like, nobody ever said football was a fashion show. DB's are supposed to get half the distance to the goal instead of 6, period. Nothing dirty about it, just try not to get caught. PI is better than 6. Lest everybody forget its a bloody and vicious game. That is why you watch and love it. Watch tennis if you want to watch a non-violent sport.
Remember, it's called the Grid Iron

Even the most dominating team has plays they could have done better or would have cost them the game, or could have been called for P I, or should have been called, but were missed. SO WHAT!!!! we WON!!!! I mean c'mon. Just enjoy it. I think some of you would find something to complain about if you won a $100 million lottery jackpot.

Exactly.

We could play the coulda, shoulda, woulda game all day. In the end all that matters is whether you get the W or the L.

If I remember correct the WR stopped and was trying to make a move toward the ball and if anything it was incidental contact because of the poor throw.

I agree that all that mattters at the end of the day is the final score, but hooskins has a point. Four fumbles in 17 minutes is absolutely crazy.

Really good point that I completely looked over. Those fumbles could have killed us as well.

Look I am not trying bring downs peoples spirits, I still think we deserved the win, I just dont want this team to let me down again. If they could play well next week too, that would be great. Eliminating some of these mistakes will greatly increase our chance of winning.

I personally didn't take the thread as an attempt to bring down people's spirits. My spirits are sky high and I'm sure that yours are too. The team played great, but, as you noted, there were several key problems that need to be addressed (e.g., penalties, botched punt protection, and fumbles). I don't see any problem with being happy and pointing out both the positive and the negative.

Ok, I guess that is what I was wondering. If it was incidental after he stopped, then that shouldnt be a PI. Thanks.

But we deserved to win the game in spite of that simply because a lack of luck has cost us a few others.

If this is fate evening it out, I'll gladly take it. I'll take a few more while we are at it. Lady luck has a long way to go to make up for that Buckhalter touchdown, and the Becht one the week after.

I agree with the lack of luck deal, but we also dominated the Panthers(even in the first half) in the critical aspects of the game. I think we deserved this on our gameplay as well.

So who are you refering to here? You quoted me in this reply, but I hope you weren't talking about me. Sure, there is a time to be critical over problems but it was still Sunday and when you win on Sunday you should be happy and celebrate regardless of the record. Monday will come and a new week will follow when you work on what is wrong but if you can't celebrate a win on Sunday why win?

You were most definately one of the people I was talking to. Is it some kind of rule that this forum has, that no one can be critical after a win until Monday? Bullshit, I can be critical whenever I want, and that doesn't mean I wasn't happy. I don't understand why you can't be very happy for your team, but be critical as well because you love the Skins so much you want them to fix their mistakes so they can win next week.

Like I said, if this thread really upsets you that much, then simply don't read it it. It really is not that hard. Many fans want their team to strive for perfection, and therefore they do not mind such posts. I don't see how we should be anything less than perfect with our huge FA signings, and our insane coach payrolls. And putting the money aside, the Redskins are a winning organization under Gibbs, and they should stay one. Anything less than playoffs is an insult to Gibbs and the Skins.

U cant be critical cuase your not a coach and there are already one to many coaches showing up to watch the redksins as there is lol :)

I kid I kid

Having either perspective of being critical or optimistic are honetly annoying to the other view, dont knwo why, but it is. Personally I am an optimist and negativity burns my eyes like acid but i read it with stride and if i think about it *sometimes* i find a view i can agree with.

Haha...good one. I do realize the problems of this team that NEED to be addressed. I just hate to keep bringing them up because after all the high hopes for this year it's been a let down and now a days any win we can get is one to savor and now with Campbell it's def. a building block for the next few years. And like you I believe I am a smart and intelligent fan as you are but I am clueless as to the difference between the two but if I got both.....it's kickass.
