Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
A couple days ago i started a thread that asked what we could hypothetically get for portis if we were to trade him, but all of you couldnt have fun with it and pissed all over it saying that Portis would never be traded so it was a stupid thread. Well now I'm asking the same question, but about someone that likely will be traded, Shawn Springs. Why is it likely that he'll be traded? well it's kinda obvious that he is the source of Tom friend's article, and this source supposivly wants out next season.
|
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
Most people are thinking it's because we'll try and get Nate Clements. I don't think he'll be gone so much as we'll keep him in at safety or nickel.

How and where did you see that Springs was the source. I would like to see that. In no way would I think he was the person to say what was said. He has been nothing but solid since coming here and he is a Gibbs guy. no way he leaves. on the trade question, we would not be able to trade him, he is too old. and now the groin issue has come up again this year. if we got a 6th or 7th rounder I would be surprised. |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
let me..........wip dis' out! We need to keep Shawn and bring in a fresh face to AT LEAST be learning the trade, if not talented enough to be starting immediately....in a perfect world
|
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
i doubt we can trade a 31 year old cornerback and expect anything in return

There's only just a little doubt in my mind left that you are none other than Kidwell, but as long as you can show some restraint I won't say anything to anyone I promise. |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
Just like everyone else said: Springs is too old, and basically un-tradeable. I can only see Springs being traded for a malcontent, or someone who'd be cut from their team anyways (along the lines of the Jacobs/Rumph trade).
|
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
We could trade him, we'd have to carry $7.4 million in dead money in 2007, which really isn't any more than the $7.3 million he's already scheduled to count for in 07.
Of course, if we kept him, we'd end up renegotiating his contract and reducing that $7.3 m down by quite a bit. So in reality, trading him comes with an opportunity cost of quite a bit of cap space. We could handle the cap situation if we wanted him off the team really badly. But saying he's the deep throat from the Tom Friend article is definitely jumping to conclusions and based purely on speculation. His play is steadily improving now that he's back from his groin issues. I see the need to upgrade at CB, if not for next season, then at least to get some young talent in house to be groomed to one day replace Springs. But I don't think it's a wise move to get rid of him outright. Especially considering we'd be lucky to net anything higher than a 3rd rounder for him. |

Dexter manley said that the source is a current starter, from what was said in the article the source is almost definately in the secondary and is almost definately not new to the team, so that leaves Rogers, Springs, and Taylor. But the source also said that no other team in the NFL has separate safeties coaches and cornerback coaches, and that suggests that the player has been on another team. Also Manley said that his contract is ending soon, and even springs contract ends in 09, it is the shortest of the 3. Plus springs is known to speak to the media, and younger guys like rogers and taylor generally dont. Vincent is also a possibility, but I dont think so because he has been on the team for such a short amount of time. |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
So how does Dexter Manley know so much about who said what on the Redskins?
Springs said it wasn't him, I believe him. Rogers said it wasn't him, I beleive him too. Sean Taylor doesn't even talk to the media, at all, so it couldn't be him. |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
I was thinking that we could trade him for another old guy who is good who plays whatever position we use our number one draft pick on (if we use it), that way we can phase our rookie in if he is not ready
|
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
A contract ending in 09' is not soon. Honestly, I dont know if I belive Manley on the source to be quite truthful. SOmthing about this whole situation is really really fishy.

The article said an unidentifyed Redskins player. Did it even say current player? Honestly I would think its LaVar or Antonio if anyone. Again, obviously I want to be with my boys on this one and hope no one said it, but I dont understand how Manley knows. Would Friend even tell anyone? Isnt that breaking codes of journalism? I dont know |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
It's funny, one of the only people not to actually weigh in on the matter is AA.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Your post is chock full of nothing but speculation. We have no effing idea who it is. Everybody has a theory, including 'Redskins experts' like Manley, but to trade someone based on a suspicion that they're dissenting is retarded. If Gibbs and company actually find out for a fact that it's Springs, and they think his attitude can't work on the team, then by all means I'm in favor of dealing him. But until anybody can tell who is the deep throat, FOR SURE, then it's retarded to take any actions. |

Schneed, I heard the Tom Friend interview on the Riggins show yesterday (he's actually back on today if you want tune in) and when Riggo asked him a question about what he thinks the skins will do in the offseason.....the first thing out of his mouth was "Well, will they cut Shawn Springs and sign Clements". I found it kind of odd because there hasn't been any speculation surrounding Springs future here. If anything, he's one of our leaders. So, why would Tom even suggest that? |

And ninety nine percent of the people who read that will agree that it was a person in the secondary |

I'm sure when he said "I know" what he really meant to say was "I believe" or something like that. Gmanc, it's funny you say was it a current player. Just yesterday I was telling Redskins_P I'll bet it's Earnest Byner. He's a notable Redskin player, just not a current notable Redskin player. And no, I don't honestly think it's him More importantly, how is it that we have 3 different threads now running on the same topic. But even more importantly, who will ridexile "trade" tomorrow? My bet is Santana Moss |

And its not that the redskins would take action to get rid of springs, manley said that deep throat wants out, so deep throat will take the initiative. |

You guys are a bunch of douche bags, yea u guys dont like me, I get it, but this is a legit topic because there is a high possibility of it happening, so just because u hate me doesnt mean that u should piss over everything I say. If I started a new thread that said one plus one is two, u all would say how i have nothing to base this on and how dumb it is. Just pretend like my name wasnt ridexile when responding to my threads from now on.

Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
A) He's getting old and coming off of an injury.
B) He's getting old and most teams don't have a need for aging CB's. C) He's getting old... There's a pattern hidden somewhere here. Once I find it I'll have an answer for you why trading Springs is probably not an option. |

Who's your source on this whole one plus one is two story? Seriously though, why do you think there's a "high possbility" because of speculation that he might be the guy who spoke to Friend? |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
How in the hell would Dexter Manley know? He can't even read the article!!!

Did he say that before he smoked the crack or after. If after I'd give it more weight! |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
I might be missing something, alot of people seem to say why would manley know, but didnt he say he spoke with the deep throat on XXX radio? Why would he lie about that?

Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
I guess the key is to find out who's tight with Dexter.
Plus, if the team continues to play the way it did on Sunday whoever the source was will probably get an extension with a nice signing bonus. Apparently, GW said the player played well on Sunday. That could be a red herring or it could mean that it can't possibly be AA. Maybe it is Springs, maybe it's Rogers. Maybe it's The Ade....maybe it's maybelline |

Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
Did anyone see the interview with Shawn Springs last night on Comcast? He mentioned he had heard speculation swirled around him as being the source of Tom Friend's ESPN article, and this was his reply, and I
"I practice two days a week, and play on Sunday, plus they pay me well, why would I do or say anything to upset that"[UNQUOTE]
Speaking of trading Springs, I don't think it's likely we could expect to get much for a 31 yr. old CB with a history of various injuries. However I do recall Springs mentioning on one ocasion that he would welcome the change to safety in an effort to prolong his career. With our current secondary situation, moving Springs to the safety position along side Taylor could be a formidable duo, if we could find an adaquate replacement for him at the corner. |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
Anyone see Gibbs response to the article? He basically ignored it saying (essentially): if the anonymous source wants to identify themself, well then i deal with it. If they aint man enough to attach their name, then I aint going looking for them 'cause I'm not chasing ghosts.
The team is not going to trade its best corner on the off-chance it can get clements or pick someone up in the draft. Haven't we been through all this. Start an intelligent thread ridexile and maybe someone will show you considertion. I am willing to back you up on the one plus one theory, regardless of what TAFKAS says. |

yea we are sorry we dont like you something about your personality i guess. What it really is is the fact that your a complete moron. Friend said today that it was an active player, not a starter. I would put money on little disgruntled Archeletta |
Re: Finally a piss free thread (hopefully)
Why is everyone putting so much credibility in to what some player, who runs a negative lip service yet, lacks the balls to identify himself says?
Perhaps he'll post the media (on more personal thoughts) next week. It seems as if the nameless player managed to fire up the coaching staff and his fellow teammates enough for them to focus on winning a game! |
