Skins vs Falcons can the skins win?
 

It seems that everytime a team has a losing streak or a new QB they can always beat the skins. New Qbs vs skins. New Qbs win. Look at Simms last year, Vince Young this year, and Tampa's QB whats his face. Vick is having trouble and I hope he doesn't get out of his slump against us.

Yeah, I'm worried about the Falcons being so shitty for so long. Sometimes teams have to get out of a funk and it seems the Redskins are the perfect remedy for that.

I always get worried when a struggling team comes to town. We've caught a few teams while they were down this year and it did us no good.

This is certainly a winnable game though.

I think so because the Falcons have to still be in a slump with last weeks loss and the receivers dropping all those passes. On the other hand the skins should have some momentum from beating carolina and we have a new kicker!!

I'm not concerned about us scoring points on them, it's our defense against Vick I'm worried about.

i really think we have a great chance to win.

vick is a below average passer and recievers that couldn't catch a cold.


last week: vick 9-24 84yrd passing. 161 rushing.

just qb spy him and keep him in the pocket and make him pass, easier said than done, iknow but that is what you have to do.

Spy him with whom? Dude runs a sub 4.2. Not that your suggestion is a bad one, I just think that with a physical freak like Vick, you can't stop him in the open field with a LB, Safety or Corner, so instead you have to prevent him from getting out in the open.

That means our DE's have to play to contain the pocket. I'd be less concerned about sacks or qb pressure this week and just make sure you don't let #7 get outside the tackles too often, 'cause once he's out there, faggedaboudid...dude is going for 20 yards minimum.

Make him try and beat you with his arm, that's the key difference between a Vick and a McNabb. McNabb will slice up a secondary if given time...Vick doesn't excel at that.

You'd almost rather this game be in Atlanta. With an away game the Falcons, and especially Vick, don't have to worry about the fans booing and what not.

That said, we can definitely win this game.

the players and coaches are always talking about only worrying about what the Redskins are doing and not so much about the other teams, but I hope they take some ideas from the defenses that have contained vick's rush..

probably both SLB and WLB will spy so they know for sure that h wont go anywhere, plus don't forget about warrick Dunn either, he is really small and really fast whih scares me alot

The Skins can certainly beat the Falcons. However, if the Falcons ever start hanging onto footballs it'll be trouble for the Skins.

for what ever reason the skins always struggle against mobile QBs. Go back as far as Randall Cunningham when he use to give us fits twice a year. McNabb killed us for a few years. I think if we can control Atlantas running game we should be able to win the game. I would play mostly cover 1 to help the front 7 until they abandon the run. Our corners should be able to handle their recievers, plus Vick isn't all that accurate anyway if one does get open. If we play Redskin football and punch them in the mouth like we did Carolina, they will fold. They have no will to win right now. if we can get on the early they will give up!!

Of course they will win.... the Skins are 1-0 when I have seen them in person, and I will be there with 90,000+ plus cheering the boys on... So my personal record will go to 2-0...

Atlanta really isn't as sporadic a team as people think they are. They don't really play with peaks and valleys. You get the same thing from them each week. They are a very, very mediocre ball club. Whether they win or lose is all about how their opponent plays them. If they get you out of your game and you try to chase Vick all over the field, he's gonna beat you. That defense is oppertunistic and if you are playing from behind, they don't let you back in often.

If we play our game, we will win. The defense has to do what works for it, and not worry about the threat that #7 poses. Cover the recievers, penetrate the offensive backfield, blitz early and often. Sure, Vick's going to frusterate you now and then, but stay in the gameplan and over the course of 60 mins, you will have more points than Atlanta.

So...yeah it's possible.

Also, according to DVOA, the only team we've played this year worse than Atlanta is Tampa Bay...and that one was on the road.

I would expect a steady diet of Falcon28 though. He hasn't been much of a factor during their losing streak, so I would expect him to get a lot more involved as they try to snap out of it.

While at the game - before, during, and after - I'm not going to drink anything alcoholic.

It's drastic, I know. Before the Dallas miracle, I had come off two hard nights of drinking, and just didn't feel like beating my own ass. Miracle win. Last week, I actually forgot my wallet, so no cocktails. Upset victory.

What I'd like for you all to do is consider that if you keep doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what you get. I got schnockered at tailgates, and we were losing. I stopped, and things changed.

PS - if we lose, they're going to have to pour me out of that stadium.

I think that the Redskins have a very good shot at winning this game on sunday. Not only do we have to worry about Vick's running, but I think that the D also has to take Vick's only target out of the game and of course I am talking about Crumpler. Vick almost always looks for him when he is in trouble, and right before he takes off. If we can cover Crumpler and I am pretty confident that our CB's are better then their WR's. So as long as we let Vick do the running between the 20's only then it should be a good day for us....

But that's it, they have been able to get other teams out of their game....that's good football strategy, isn't it? Dictate with your strengths and expose the other teams weakness.

I do think they are a little banged up in the seconday and John Abraham isn't 100% so that should also help.

Even still, the opponent shouldn't get off their game. Its up to us to make sure we go out there, play just as well on D as last week, and don't worry if Vick extends a few drives running.

It will catch up to them eventually. A QB cannot win a game by himself.

Basically what I'm saying is teams that spy Vick (more than on a situational basis) are in many cases poorly coached. I think GW is too smart for that, and [U]I can not reasonably see us losing this game.[/U]

I haven't been able to watch the Falcons much this year, especially during this slide. Someone who has seen the games, what have been some of the succesful defensive strategies employed by opposing teams, from your observation?

The Falcons run the ball well. They're #1 in the league and its not even close, they have 500 yrds more than the next team. If the skins want to win, they have to make Vick throw the ball.

gtripp quoting gtripp? even the games when Vick runs, its almost like if he runs too much, its not good for their offense. last week he had over 150 yards rushing, and they still lost. i say dline stay in your lanes and make Vick( the inaccurate one) beat us throwing. if that happens, oh well

They're only the highest in rushing because of Vick. Dunn is good, but he's not the reason they're #1.

IMO we've got to score 24pts+ to win this game. I don't think just 14-17pts are going to do it.

Like I said.... I am going to be there and am 1-0 for the Skins. This is a winnable game.

You have all hit it on the head though.... If we stay in our lanes and make Vick through the ball we can win this game. His recievers have shown they are not that good all year, with dropped balls etc. He is going to get his yards on the ground, you just have to limit the big plays (which has been our achilles heel this year) But I hope Gregg Williams has schemed a good game plan. Did anyone hear if they used Randel El to simulate vick in practice?
