Which one goes? Samuels or Jansen?
 

I've heard talk in Redskins circles that both starting OTs won't be back with the team next year. Which one is more likely to be released? Samuels or Jansen? Or is that just an unfounded rumor?...

I don't care how much money they must spend, they better keep these guys. Samuels has plenty left in the tank, and Jansen is critical for the chemistry on the line. Plus Jansen is one of the faces of the franchise, if we like it or not.

Jansen has been doing alot worst compared to Samuels this year, which is a surprise. Recently the line hasnt been too hot because as everyone has said they are not best suited for runs to the outside that Saunders calls upon, and we saw last week when Saunders added a bit of Gibbs run in his offense, the line looked amazing again.

As for Jansen he has looked pretty bad all year, regardless of the situation. I think he is hurt or something.

it,s a rumor they aint going nowhere..beside samuels has redone his contract like a thousand times already..and janse i figured is trying to get adjusted to yet another offense but the both of them are staying...

They'll both stay, particularly Samuels if for cap reasons alone. I agree with the above, I think Jansen is hurt. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see some more linemen drafted.

I hope the whole line returns, that would make things easier with this new offense. Yeah, I feel that as long as we mix up the run, things will work out. I see too many stretch plays without interior runs to compliment. Once that balance is set, the offense will flourish, especially with the deep ball threat

I hope Jansen is hurt too, because otherwise, we will need to replace him. He has been a great player for us, but the dropoff in his play is too much to stay the course if it isn't injury related in my opinion. It's not a what have you done in the past business.

both are staying, i have little doubt. samuels i think has been pretty solid lately. jansen finally doesnt have to block the blindside since campbell is a right hander, our line played a lot better last week. jansen is the team leader IMO, no way he leaves. he retires a skin i think. samuels, doubt he leaves. huge contract and solid player

Getting rid of Samuels is impossible, he'd kill our salary cap. Not that we'd ever want to get rid of him.

It's possible to get rid of Jansen from a cap perspective, but his cap figure is a relative bargain amongst RTs in the league.

Neither are leaving. And I can't imagine Gibbs would want them to.

Remember in 2004 when Gibbs first came back, the line struggled? Then the next year, after getting comfortable in the offense, they had a great year together. Same thing should happen next year. Keep them together, including Dock.

Just need to incorporate a bit more power running rather than all the stupid sweeps to the edge.

Me personally, I think we are missing one if not two stud o-linemen. Guys like the mold of Thomas and of course the ol' retro O-linemen we had back in the 80's when we would just maul people at the point of attack. I do think that Samuals is overrated but, Doc is doing fine.

Samuels is overrated and Jansen is a shell of his former self. I wish we had 5 Randy Thomas'! Neither tackle will be going anywhere (especially Samuels) because we are buried in their contracts and what would the alternative be?

One of my biggest disappointments of the Gibbs 2 era is that in three season under Bugel we don't seem to have brought up one single up-and-coming lineman.

I was looking at the salary cap earlier and it looks obvious that they want Samuals for at least 4 more years and Jansen for 2 more if they can perform. With that said, I think that we will be looking to draft a solid offensive tackle again on the second day of the draft in the hopes that we find a guy (like Golston) that can play solid ball.

I cant believe that anyone would even think samuels would get cut. They would take a 16 million dollar cap hit. Jansen is possible, but not probable.

I recall hearing something in the summer about the Redskins were thinking about parting ways with one or the other, and they needed a good year in 2006 to merit their high salaries. I figured Samuels was less likely since he just got that extension, but I also recalled talk a few years that Samuels was close to being cut.

I looked up Jansen's cap figures, and they are about $5.8 million in 2007 and over $6 million in 2008. Not exactly small potatoes, especially if the player is not performing up to their usual level. I was basically wondering if any one of them had been playing poorly enough this year that they may be in danger of being released. It seems a few individuals feel that Jansen's play has been to a level low enough that there is a possibility the team decides to move on after this year.

Now, as for your mention of Vick. There is in fact a growing rumor that Michael Vick will be gone from Atlanta soon. Many are suggesting it may come this upcoming off-season. That seems doubtful IMO, but 2008 is a pretty open year, and Vick needs to come back next year and have a good year, or the day that he is playing for the Oakland Raiders is inching closer an closer

My bad, Mr. Pudge! We get a fair amount of that sort of thing, especially in the week before playing a team. But why didn't you say the salary cap thing first? That sort of info helps separate the trolls from the "respected though sadly misguided" fans of other teams. ;)

When has Jansen ever been to the pro-bowl?

If anyone goes it is Jansen. Releasing both makes no sense and cannot be done because of the cap.

Jansen hasn't been to a Pro Bowl but he's certainly been deserving in the past.

Jansen and Samuels are above average at their respective positions, and I will rank them with any pair in the league. It's not unusual for a player to have an off game, or year for that matter, but player's shouldn't be written off because of it. When doing what they do best, this line is just as good as any in the league. Jansed's contract will get worked, and he will be back next year.

I think both our tackles are a little over rated but great tackles don't go on trees so I don't see either of them going anywhere...
