Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.
i watched most of the game between the titans and the patriots today, and saying that vince young is gonna keep this league on fire for awhile is an understatement.he may the best pure football player this league has seen since randall cunningham started playing in the nfl.
he threw an int 40 yards downfield to the patriots secondary, and he was the first player to touch the guy on the play.last qb i ever saw that did that frequently was john elway, and we all know where he is now.he has the potential to make all the league's younger qbs look like girl scouts. who knows?maybe he'll become the michael jordan of the nfl. |
Re: Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.
So hes the best because he threw an interception and was the first one to touch the defender? Thats retarded
|
Re: Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.
No he won't.
Remember Kordel Stewart, and even Michael Vick? Vick was a better athlete coming out of college, and now people are finally seeing he's overrated. You have to be able to throw the ball well, and Vince Doesn't, Vick doesn't, and Stewart never did. |

Young is the most exciting player in recent memory. He went 8-5 as a rookie on a team that was supposed to win 5 or 6 games, authoring multiple comeback victories. Also, I'm sick of people automatically comparing all black quarterbacks to each other even when they are completely different players. Young's game has little do with Vick's and absolutely nothing to do with friggin Kordell Stewart's! I just hope we don't start throwing Campbell into that group as well. |

i did'nt say that mr pain.when's the next jacka$$ moviecoming out?!watched the man play a total game.he has something no other qb in the league does'nt come close to having,he sees the defenses good, when he throws a pass,it's 90% of the time it is right to the guy he's throwing it too,and he can run like hell too!as for tackling the guy after running a dead sprint 40 yards down field, there were three guys a lot closer to the guy that interceoted the pass.lets see you run down the field and do that! mt calabra! |

So, comparing him to Kordell and Vick have nothing to do with him being black, it has to do with him being WAAAAY overrated from the get go and being a scrambling qb. Because he uses his legs to win the games, not his arm. If you can't use your arm to win, you will not succeed in the NFL. Vick has been told this and is now working on it daily, he will need more improvement to make it. Kordell never learned it, and Vince needs to learn it immediately if he wants to be successful. Campbell on the other hand has already learned this...same with McNair, and McNabb (hmmm, all black QB's, but they weren't mentioned...maybe you should not be so quick to think it's racial.) All three of the guys just mentioned understand the game better and beleive in the pocket passing to win scenario. All three can scramble (or used to be able to) with the best of them, but only do it when absolutely needed. See the difference? So, what I am sick of is people automatically assuming racism. It's idiotic and immature. Also, I am sick of people overreacting by saying stuff like "all black qb's" when only 3 were mentioned. I'll be honest, I've never been more disgusted by someone's assumption like what you just did. This is why racism is alive and well in the world ladies and gentlemen...it's repulsive. Who said anything about racism? I just think it's intellectually lazy to compare quarterbacks who have little in common other than race, yet are compared to each other all the time anyway. Okay? Kordell Stewart wasn't even brought into the league to be a franchise quarterback but rather was envisioned more as an ARE type player, plus he never had the size or the skill set Young has, and he played a completely different style when he did finally become a starter. He was in the league several years before he even got a real chance at QB, and when he did it was more out of necessity than anything else. So what the hell does that have to do with Vince Young? Why doesn't anyone compare Young to Brett Favre, a gutsy mobile qb with a rocket who isn't afraid to take chances, who can will a team to victory through moxy alone, and who brings an improvisational dynamism to the field with every play? He actually reminds me more of Doug Williams than anybody else; cool, calm, collected, and throws like Williams and has arm strength like DW had when he played here. Of course him wearing #17 helps in the comparison as well! ;) |
Re: Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.
I watched Doug Williams play his entire time here in Washington and quite a bit at Tampa. I personally can't think of one quarterback that Jason Campbell reminds me of more than Doug Williams.
The physical dimensions, the delivery, the whole nine. Very similiar styles and demeanors. |

By that argument they are both equal, which of course they aren't. I agree with others when they say he's a bit overrated in the same way Vick was overrated. But if Young works on that arm he should have a fine future ahead of him. |
Re: Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.
Oh, and my point about Rex Grossman is that you really need to give the O-line, defense, etc their dues. I really hate the theory that every game is won or lost on the shoulders of the QB. Remember that game when the Titan's D had 3 TDs?

Re: Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.
I got the chance to see VY play in Austin quite a few times. There is nobody right now that is as exciting at the QB position in the NFL. This guy just has that something special and NEVER gets flustered. He believes he is a winner and everyone around him buys into his calm and cool demeanor. You saw it the second half of the season and the Titans will be a good football team because VY will rub off on the players.
I don't think he will be the best QB in the league, but I do think he will eventually win a NFL championship someday because VY wakes up every morning and pisses excellence! |

Yeah, but Grossman plays on a remarkable team, and is the weak link if anything. They win in spite of him. Young plays on a team that was supposed to be rebuilding, that jettisoned its core for salary cap reasons, and that was expected to maybe win 5 or 6 games. Not only has he inspired them to rally around him, he has been able to single handedly take over games in the fourth quarter. Of course the LT has to block and the receiver has to catch the ball, and if your D can put up 21 that helps too, but there is a certain intangible element to Young's play that stats can't quantify, but wins and losses can. This has been evinced multiple times this year, particularly in the fourth quarter. Can anyone really argue with me, that Young's completion percentage doesn't tell the whole story? How good he ends up being remains to be seen, but he has that certain something - a kind of demeanor - that great winners in every sport seem to have. I for one am glad to be watching. |

By the time Williams replaced Schroeder, he was a virtual statue in the pocket, and his knees were pretty well shot. As a passer though, Campbell does remind me of Williams, which is a high compliment. |

I was thinking the same thing Sunday. Before then, I was thinking he reminded me a lot of Steve Young. Not Micheal Vick in terms of moves, but very elusive and throws great on the run, much like Young. If anything, Campbell is even more of a beast than both Culpepper AND Steve Young. |
Re: Vince Young is gonna be the best qb in the league in a few years.
I really don't understand how people are saying the VY is overrated. The man comes in as a rookie an wins games with a team that is not that good. He has absolutely no stud players on offense that he can give the ball to, their defense is not a powerhouse, and yet he still is able to get wins. How is he overrated? Look at the other rookie QBs in the game and who they have around them. Leinart has TWO stud receivers in Bolden and Fitzgerald, plus he hands the ball of to Edgerrin James! Cutler has a great running attack, Jevon Walker, and a nasty defense. Young has none of these luxuries and he still wins, somebody please explain to me how he is overrated, it's a mystery to me. Call up Scooby Doo and gang, tell em to hop in the mystery machine because they got a hot one to solve. The mystery of Vince Young and his status as an overrated player.
