Was he a starter?
Not only was he a starter, he was a good young corner. Champ and Williams made up one of the best CB tandems in all the league. This guy was only 24 years old. I was watching the game with my wife (a huge broncos fan) and we were pointing out his play, and talking about him a lot. My wife told me he was shot this morning and I was in disbelief. My initial reaction was it was because they lost the game and a ticket to the playoffs. But after reading that article and saying he hung out with the wrong crowd when he was younger, I am not sure. I hope there isn't some crazy fan executing players because his team lost. |
Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by

I am not understanding your point...are you saying Jevon Walker has gangster ties and had somethign to do with this? |
Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
Awful waste of a young, talented man. RIP DW.

Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
A tragedy indeed...
You wonder how someone so well thought of, and someone who people speak so admirably about could meet fate in such a tragic, and untimely manner. My prayers will include the Williams family, and friends. |

The truth will come out eventually. I'm not saying he was a jerk or a gansta, but you can't listen to what people say...they are not going to say "wow, good, I'm glad he's dead, he was a jackass." No one says that...they all say good things initially and then the truth comes out later. I am hoping he actually was a good guy and this was a random act. |

I am hoping he actually was a good guy and this was a random act.
The problem often lies in the fact that many pro athletes come from not-so-nice surroundings and upbringings, and manage to "escape" by means of sports. But the season has to end sometime, and a lot of these guys understandably don't want to just "get new friends" because they are pro athletes now. Unfortunately, it's a universal truth that it isn't easy to know who your real friends are, unless you're really down and out, and these guys are the polar opposite, so they can attract the worst in others. It's really easy to say, "what was he thinking, you'd think that making that kind of money he would know how to avoid trouble", but ask yourself if you'd isolate yourself from your friends (and family, a lot of times) for a few million bucks? You might think you could, but then probably you'd be into drugs or whatever else to drown your sorrows... Anyway, long rambling point here is I doubt that 99.9% of pro athletes are actually really acting like gangstas or thugs. They just often don't have the positive support network to stay away from all the people who are gangstas and thugs. |
Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
Wow, that's so horrible. If this was because he was hanging out with the wrong company, then this should serve as a lesson to the rest of the thuggish players in this league that that is the type of thing that can happen when you have bad company. RIP Darrent.

So in essence, I like so many others will be anxious to hear all the facts, and once revealed, our opinions could change. |
Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
Just shows you life is too short and we're not promised tomorrow. No matter who we are.

no,i just stated what espn said,he and javon walker had gotten into an altercation at an unnamed club.now they are saying that walker was in the hummer limo that the young man who got killed was in.when i say gangsta style i'm talking about running around what all that bling-bling shit on,turning the bass up so loud it's all you can here nothing else..i'm sure that not every pro player comes from areas where gangs are quite the biggest criminals, but i am just as sure some do,get the rich money, and go home and flaunt it with some of their buddies who are still in gangs! |

So I guess Javon was the man that was shot and sent to the hospital? |
Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
Here's the story: NFL Network said he and JaVon Walker were at Carmelo Anthony's party, ESPN said Kenyon Martin, both Denver Nuggets.
Supposedly they were on their way, ironically, to Allen Iverson's party. Williams got into a beef with some guys inside the club and appearantly it spilled outside the club. They get in the limo, shots are fired, and Williams appearantly died in JaVon Walker's arms. |
Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
If that's true that Darrent died in Javon's arms, i can only imagine what Javon's going through right now. I hope he recovers from this, I wouldn't be suprised if he's gonna be traumatized for a while.

Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
This is a sad commentary on today's society where perceived slights against one's manhood are almost routinely settled with gunfire. I blame a lot of this on hip hop culture that glorifies thuggish behavior.

"thuggish" behavior has always been glorified. Most old western movies are based on gunfights. Violence has always been apart of Film/music and our culture in general. On the local news(San Diego Channel 8), They are talking about a man who walked into a cafe and shot two people. The man is a white male in his 40's. Completely random violence. SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Metro -- Suspect identified in Hillcrest shooting Do you also blame hip Hop culture for this random shooting? |
Re: Broncos CB Darrent Williams killed in drive-by
Absolutley not I blame this unfortunate loss of life on stupid people doing really stupid shit....Because he pissed you off go shoot him!? WHAT KINDA SHIT IS THAT...Sorry but im mad this guy had to die at the age of 24! Thats 4 years off of me.... Thats a kid guys!

A random shooting against total strangers that the shooter has never met or seen before is the act of an insane person. When a group seeks retribution for one of their own being dissed at a club, that is vengeful, and all too often in today's society, young people feel justified in taking another life in the name of "defending their manhood". For that, I do blame hip hop culture. Bill Cosby has spoken out for several years about this cultural problem: AllHipHop.com : Daily Hip-Hop News |
