Unbelievable!!!

|
Re: Portis on 980
I wish I could say that this was unbelievable but this organization is screwed up beyond words.
When things are this messed up, you have to blame the top. It doesn't seem like the team will ever be functional while Snyder is in control. |
Re: Portis on 980
I downloaded it to listen to tomorrow, but hopefully someone will do a quick synopsis before then.
|
Re: Portis on 980
First off, he's probably the only person on the planet saying why isn't John Eubanks getting more playing time.
Secondly, as I was telling Gmanc, isn't it interesting how both Portis and Arch said that Gibbs has always been accesible and a good person to speak to? Portis, in this interview, talks about Gibbs has an open door policy and at meetings encourages people to voice their complaints. But then all the players say everything is fine but then turn right around and speak "anonymously" to the press. Everyone expects Moss and Portis to speak up for them, but Gibbs wants to hear from everyone even if you're "just a holder on extra points" It was kind of sad in a way, because it was almost like CP was saying leave the old man alone. Made Gibbs seem kind of fragile in a way. |
Re: Portis on 980
This is a big part of what Portis said.Doesn't sound good guys and i am not blaming CP.
1. There are snitches in the franchise that are not true Redskins 2. The coaches don't talk to each other 3. He questions the coaching decisions (ie not pounding the ball when they're up 14-0) 4. Brandon Lloyd alienated him, even when he was a big fan of bringing him to the team. 5. He actively lobbied to keep Antonio Pierce and Ryan Clark on the team |
For some reason, my computer doesn't wanna play it. Please give insight on what Portis said
Joe handled the running game, Al the passing game, the offense isn't on the same page. He'd rather train by himself and most players feel the same way.. Too many OTAs and that's why players lose focus during the offseason.. The locker room is fractured by the 'un-named sources' and people back talking and back stabbing.. Players don't stand up and speak their minds but are ready to throw others under the bus. A serious lack of accountability among the players. Ryan Clark was the epitome of a 'Core Redskin' but he's gone. Portis begged the Redskins to keep Clark and Pierce.. He said he didn't have a problem with AA but had a problem with paying him more to do what Clark was already doing.. Lloyd alienated his advocates (Portis was his biggest fan) and had the team lose faith in him due to his attitude.. Some offensive players and coaches don't talk to each other.. Portis doesn't talk to Saunders.. There's clearly a rift between him and Saunders based on how he was being used (or under used in the passing game) when he was in the games. Portis doesn't like the side to side running game that Saunders was calling when he was in there and he wants to run the same plays that Betts was running, downhill, after Portis was hurt. Campbell was restricted in the games he was in but the talent is there to be great, he needs to be let loose.. Great stuff, it's about 30 minutes to listen to the whole thing but if you have the time it's a great insight into what's really going on inside Redskin Park. |
Re: Portis on 980
Anyone else notice that Clinton Portis talks in the 3rd person a lot? TAFKAS noticed it

As dgack often notes, only the truly great ones refer to themselves in the third person. |

Then why are you two clowns doing that? ;) |
Re: Portis on 980
It's very obvious that this is one fucked up organization... dysfunctional as hell..Listen for yourself Clinton was clear and he made alot of sense. And Al Sauders is an idiot.... The coaches are all too big and have their own agenda's. Everything I heard completely expains what happened to the 'skins this year ....all the wasted talent... This made me sick.... But i have to applaud Clinton's Candor and Courage...The core players the redskins let go also makes alot of sense and how much that has affected the organization. Do youself a favor and listen to this..It's an eye opener. It was interesting to hear what he said about the downfield game instead of the side to side game.

Re: Portis on 980
Well, one thing that needs to be said is that Gibbs, Ggrilliamss and Saunders are all smart guys and proven winners in their respective specialties, but to the degree with which they work together and understand the parameters of the job they are being asked to do, depends on some pretty serious "come to Jesus" meetings between Gibbs and his subordinates, and between those guys and their field generals.
The more I read and hear about the way this team has been run, it's clear that totally janky communication is the major problem, and there isn't any kind of consistency to conveying what the gameplan is or how it's to be achieved. I think this stuff can be solved, if egos can be checked and people are committed to doing the right things. Those are two big "if's", though. |
Re: Portis on 980
First of all CP is the man. I love how the guy is straight up.He feels a certain way, you will hear it. Sounds like the team is full of cowards. He sees the talent we all do and if these guys could learn to communicate and stand up for what they want and each other they will be a force in the league. The way CP talked about Ryan Clark made me sick. He was the reason Sean Taylor played the way he did. I always knew Clark was key and they shouldn't have let him go. Kind of an eye opener but very good. Love CP and love my Skins.

Re: Portis on 980
I love Taylor but I am f*cking tired of hearing how Ryan Clark not being there hurt his play. He is a physiacl beast, is getting paid millions, and can play football. Time to be a professional and nut up Sean. This crap about how he needs Clark is ridiculous. Play the f*cking game they way you can you whiney bitch.

LOL getting paid millions.Yet Arch is the highest paid safety in the NFL now thanks to the SKins. Its about chemistry and ST had that with Clark. He has no chemistry with Arch and Arch sucks. |
Re: Portis on 980
Man I love CP, he is a baller and he is soo real.
|
Re: Portis on 980
Portis is a M.A.N/,, .A football player who is not scared to hurt feelings...I will admit that I was one of the guys who said that we may need to trade CP but this has changed my mind...I am from W-S, NC (from the south also) where we believe in speaking our minds as opposed to being "politicly correct"
The "Practice" comments sounds a lot like Iverson which was NOT a good thing nor was the comments about him and the offensive coordinator in which he is going to be working with |
Re: Portis on 980
I'm thankful someone stepped up.
Hopefully this will be the start of a new era. He is calling everyone out, Including Gibbs and Saunders. It's time for Saunders to walk into Gibbs'sss''''s office and work things out. There is no way you can have one man handle the passing the the other handle the running. It's up to Joe Gibbs to face the heat for the next 4 months and answer CP. |
Re: Portis on 980
Surprise, surprise, Portis whining again.
He needs to STFU and do what he's told. |
Re: Portis on 980
Surprise, surprise, Portis whining again.

I mean if Portis wanted to "whine" then he would have done it anonymously like everyother player did. It is more admirable for Portis to man up to his own statements rather than cop out and do it under anonymity. Maybe you need to STFU and do what you are told... |

Re: Portis on 980
Surprise, surprise, Portis whining again.
He needs to STFU and do what he's told.
Yeah, because the coaches have demonstrated that their plan is effective and that everyone in the organization are on the same page. Portis is the problem here not the owner, front office and coaching staff. I bet he wasn't even hurt. He faked it so he could complain. |

Re: Portis on 980
Was that really warranted simply because my opinion of Portis differs from yours?
Maybe or maybe not, but I believe that it is warranted because of the reasons stated by Grim21Reaper "Yeah, because the coaches have demonstrated that their plan is effective and that everyone in the organization are on the same page. Portis is the problem here not the owner, front office and coaching staff. I bet he wasn't even hurt. He faked it so he could complain." Sure its easy to point and lay blame on the face of the team. But it is un-warranted when the face of the team is trying to get team cohesiveness. Hell Portis is doing more by putting his face and name with what he is saying than the others that want or need to remain "anonymous". I understand that sometimes people need to remain anonymous, but when players do it just to throw each other and coaches under the bus then that is nothing more than just plain old cowardness... |
Re: Portis on 980
what are the reasons stated by grim21reaper? if your opinion is different, you dont know shit?

What!?!? Doesn't it take two people to play one position? Ryan and Taylor were like Master Blaster from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. One can't function without the other. Exaggeration, I know, but Sean is a man and needs to deal with the fact that there's not always gonna be someone to take care of you and make sure you're feeling okay. Portis' comments are the type that gets a relationship back on track. I'm glad he said it and I hope players and coaches follow suit. Tell the people that you have a problem. Behind closed doors is usually the best way but if that's not an option then I guess use the media as a sounding board. As long as it's aim is to promote stability and put the foolishness behind you. |
Re: Portis on 980
If the assistant coaches are too big for their britches or not not talking to each other then IMO there is only 1 person to blame, Joe Gibbs. He's the head coach and whether explicitly or implicitly has given them the go ahead to behave the way they do. I never imagined that Gibbs could screw this thing up as bad as he has. He may get it straightened out before his contract expires but its not gonna be easy.

Re: Portis on 980
I heard the conversation when I was driving home from work Yesterday, and it was definitely the best interview that Portis gaceThompson all season. Portis is on John Thompson's show every week, and he ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS defended the coaches and the other players for the entire season. When Thompson would always ask him questions about other Redskins, he would always say something positive, and constantly defended Brunell and B. Lloyd. When asked about the coaching staff and play calls, he would normally say something to the effect of, "I'm just a player. It doesn't matter what I want, everyone in the world knows how I like to play." I think what he said is great and the timing of what he said is great because he caused no problems during the season, and now that it's over, it doesn't matter if he wants to ruffle some feathers because he's not distracting the team from trying to win games. I hope that all the players, coaching staff, front office, and even Snyder himself heard this. Because Clinton really told it how it is, and I think that players will respect this and rally around him.

If you read the article about "Core Redskins" sure sounds like everyone was on the same page when it came to evluating Brandon Lloyd. Sure it is easy to say a player is whining when he is the only one to man up to what is on his mind. What Portis said means more to me as a fan than what an "anonymous" player/coach has to say... |
Re: Portis on 980
In a season full of unnamed sources I'm glad to see someone sticking their neck out and speaking their mind. Portis is a leader on this team, if he says things are wrong then I'm going to listen.
Hopefully getting things out in the open will allow these issues to be dealt with accordingly. These guys who don't speak out to the coaches or teammates but then rat to the media need to be dumped and fast. |

Re: Portis on 980
I have to agree as well. I did not agree with all CP had to say. I think he is wrong on some of his ideas. It was refreshing to hear nontheless
|
Re: Portis on 980
One of the most interesting points I thought Portis made was that there really aren't any team captiains. Did anyone else find that, well, a little off putting? It reminds me of the way the coaching staff is put together, at times it seems like there's no captain or general who has the final say on everything. Anyways, I've never been on a sports team that has not had team captains. Some were picked by the coaches, some were picked by players, but nevertheless, they play a very important role on any team. Do you think on game days in Baltimore Brian Billick is like, I'm sorry Ray, we know you're a great leader, and you strike fear into the hearts opposing offenses, but we're gonna let Kyle Bowler be captain today. I DON'T THINK SO!!!! We need Captains on this team to help maintain order in the locker room, and we need Joe Gibbs to be the General of the entire organization, no questions asked. Agree?

Didn't someone recently outline that possibility and the cap ramifications? Sounds like something Schneed might have done. |

They basically don't think he can play and resent the money he is getting. That comes straight from the mouth of a Redskin who said it after shaking his head and rolling his eyes. They also all think it was Arch who blabbed to Friend. |
