Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
It's not often a respected, successful and experienced football guy becomes available as Reese did today. He is exactly what we need to run football operations. I know it won't happen because Gibbs is that guy but I'd rather see Gibbs focus all of his energies on the field and let someone else shop for the groceries.

Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
It would make sense for us to go get Floyd Reese. He's a great talent evaluator and was actually hoping for a contract extension from Tennessee, which means he's not burnt out and still ready to work. He would be great for us, and it's unfortunate it won't happen. If only Snyder shopped as agressively for front office guys as he did flashy free agents....

Great point. |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
Supposedly Jeff Fisher wants complete control there and he wasn't happy with the way Reese treated guys like George and McNair at the end of their Titans careers. Apparently Fisher was also upset that Reese overruled him and Chow and drafted Young instead of Leinart.
I think Reese is solid. He's made some poor decisions, but who hasn't over the course of 21 years? |

He pays a lot of money for coaches too. Pretty much, the front office is the only thing he doesn't pay tons of money for. I don't get why Reese resigned though. |

When your time is done and you can’t play for us anymore, see ya. It has to be done this way. If the players cannot see they are hurting the team with their performance and the coaches are attached, the team will suffer. Also a strict GM doesn't let young home grown talent walk out of the door. |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
Oh please God let us sign Floyd Reese. I would suddenly become optimistic about the Redskins again...
Vince Young over Leinert was the right choice! |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
Not to mention he values Draft picks.

Maybe, but it sure would have been interesting to see what Leinert could have done given his familiarity with Chow's offense. |

Young is more in the mold of McNair. Short term vs Long term when it comes to this debate. |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
As much as I'd love to see it, I just cannot imagine Gibbs & Co. (the front office version) tossing up their hands and saying, "forget it, let's bring somebody else to do this job, [an outsider, no less] and we will shut up, and go along with whatever they say."
Just ain't happenin'. |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
If the Skins were to bring in Reese would he also want his people under him to go with him as well (i.e. would he try to bring all his scouting guys in and boot the ones at Redskin Park out?). What would happen to Louis Riddick if someone like Reese was brought in?

I think this is the last thing Joe really has to prove in the NFL, that he can build his own team and win with it, or that it can win. I think that Joe will probably end up in the front office after he leaves coaching again...I don't know that that's the best idea, but I think that's what will happen. I really agree that there are too many egos to allow Reese to come in and take over. However, I could see him coming in and making everything more chaotic around the whole team... |

let the Chronicles of Riddick jokes begin...ive heard them all b4...
I have watched that movie, ohhhhh.... about 70 times. How's this for a scenario: Hire Reese, fire Cerrato, Gibbs remains as President/Head Coach and Snyder acts upon other areas of interests outside of Redskins football (Six Flags, movie studios, whatever) and is simply The Owner. |

Actually he wasn't hoping for an extention. Reese didn't like the fact that Jeff Fisher had control over the hiring/firing of assistant coaches. |

Going 5-11 on the season, he has said he will look at any, and everything that will help the team, but when pressed on the issue of hiring a GM, he maintained "we're satisfied with the FO structure the way it is", so I guess that sort of answers our question. As I've said before, the decision to hire a GM will have to come from Snyder, and I'm not going to hold my breath on that one. |

True. I'm not real excited about Gibbs the GM, though. I hope his desire to step back and play GM after "retiring" doesn't hurt us. |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
They can't bring in Reece . He wouldn't trade multiple draft picks for guys like Brunell , Loyd , M. White , Rocky, Duckett and he probably would not give 10 million in signing bonuses to every guy who made a highlight reel . Too bad , because we will keep spinning our wheels year after year if the F/O stays as is .

I think it was more the owner Bud Adams, who is a known cheapskate, that was behind getting rid of McNair and George. And I know it was the owner that locked out McNair. And to be honest, Young might be a better QB than Leinart. I say gas up Redskins One and go get this guy. He is very very solid. |

Hmm. Ok, I had heard differently. But anyway, I like Reese (he's done some good, some bad) but just plugging someone into the front office could cause the same issues-what are the roles?-we had this past season with the addition of Saunders. I would have thought adding someone as a GM might be possible should Al Saunders have left but with him seemingly staying I can't see it happening. What would Gibbs do? If they do add someone, I think it would have to be someone that Gibbs is at least somewhat familiar working with. |

You could be correct. But I know is was Adams who locked out McNair. He was worried that he would get hurt working out. But I can tell you what Gibbs can do. COACH BETTER. He really needs to work with Saunders in getting the offense straight. They need to learn how to work together. And he can work with JC. Anything but just stay out of the personel matters. |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
Well - looks like the Giants got a Reese - although this is not Floyd....
washingtonpost.com - nation, world, technology and Washington area news and headlines Also Jason La Confora gave a report at Redskin Park and said the Skins will not bring a GM and the issue is dead - we are stuck with Vinny Cerrato and the current FO whether we like it or not.... here is a qoute and link to JLC commentary.... "I'll keep you guys posted if anything happens in Ashburn this week. Coaches will likely break for a few weeks of vacation at the end of the week. Danny Boi wants to win, but doesn't have a clue how to win. Sigh...... I honestly wish he had never bought the team. The FO set up is so horrible it's not even funny. I mean how do you sign Brandon LLoyd to a boatload of $ and not take into consideration his awful attitude? I wonder if JKC knew all this BS was going to happen would he have dicked his own son? |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
While I was watching the replay of the Skins Broncos SB tonight I found it interesting that in the second half when the game was over the commentators were giving so many accalades to Bobby Beathard and making him the chief reason behind the succees we had had up until that point, I guess Gibbs thought it was his coaching that made those players, while it becomes more and more evident that it was BB's ability to continualy stock pile talent that made Gibbs.
|
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
I really wonder what it will take for Snyder to realize this system isn't working. How many more losing seasons will there have to be, with the $10 million dollar boys not living up to expectations?
You'd think they'd have taken the clue when the two seasons they didn't go crazy in the free agent market (2001 and 2005) were the years when the team showed promise. Until then, Snyder will believe everything that Gibbs tells him, no matter how often Gibbs is proven wrong with his system of acquiring players. And if Gibbs assumes the role of GM after he steps down as coach, then this team will under-achieve for years to come. |

I think Gibbs is smart enough to realize that w/out players you have no team. Plus he had nothing to do w/ the defense. That was all Ritchie. |

Beathard kissed media ass, that was why he was so popular and given so much credit. |

Let's not be so quick to dismiss Gibbs' impact on that team. For starters, he's the one who lured Doug Williams to the Redskins. But more importantly, it was Joe Gibbs that coached a bunch of no-name guys like QB Ed Rubbert, RB Lionel Vital, and DE Steve Martin (not that one) to a 3-0 record during the "replacement weeks" of that season. While other teams had inner turmoil with players crossing the picket line, Gibbs kept that unit of "scab" players together for three pivotal weeks. |

Don't forget it was also Gibbs who personally convinced John Riggins to come out of retirement and come back to the Redskins. |
Re: Hey Dan Snyder.. Go get Floyd Reese!!!
If you makes sense then it will never happen. The skins arent run like winning teams. We just sign Fa and trade away our draft picks.
