John Hall won't be brought back
This is from Pro Football Weekly: Whispers from around the NFL
The Redskins likely will have a new kicker in 2007. Though Shaun Suisham missed only two kicks in 11 attempts, team sources think they can do better. John Hall will not be brought back. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
OMG this shocking! What are we going to do? What are we to do...the sky is falling, the sky is falling!
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Any good FA kickers available?
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
No surprise there. How much money will that free up? Schneed?
Even though Suisham did a good job towards the end, I also think they can do better. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
This was only a year overdue.
Didn't Suisham hit the first 50 yarder in a decade? I hope they at least give him a shot. |
This was only a year overdue.

Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Well there is NFL.com - Mike Vanderjagt
but I hope Suisham at least gets a chance. He was better than anything we've had since Hall was healthy his first season here. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
I like Suisham. I hope he sticks around
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Let Hall go back to the Jets. It would be nice if we had a kicker that had a chance from 50 yards out for a change.
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Anyone got Chip Lohmiller on speed dial?
|
I think Vanderjagermeister's problems start with kickoffs. We need somebody who can kick it past the 10 yardline, a problem that Suisham and MV both cant do on a regular basis. |

Exactly, our special teams did a pretty good job of limiting return yards this past season, but it would help them a ton if the returner didn't start at the 5 or 10 every time. |

Hahahaha....might not be out of the question! |

Even though Suisham did a good job towards the end, I also think they can do better.
Cap room freed up: $1.5 million. This move is definitely no surprise. The writing was all over the wall. Josh Brown is available, I believe. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Thank God Hall is gone.
I'd like to see Suisham get a shot at the gig. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Im gonna miss Hall, he was the only kicker that gets the personals from knocking guys over after the field goal.
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
The word out of Seattle is they're not going to let Josh Brown get away:
Taking into account the bad taste that has lingered in the Seahawks organization since the unceremonious departure of Pro Bowl OLG Steve Hutchinson last offseason, inside sources tell us it's highly unlikely the team will allow PK Josh Brown, the player considered least expendable among its free agents, to split the scene this season. "I think it's imperative that they re-sign him," Seahawks special-teams coach Bob Casullo told PFW last week. "Considering his value to the team, it's a no-brainer." |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
The whole Suisham vs. "Another guy" for kicker sounds like it might be a good poll question...personally I think he's earned a shot...he's been accurate, he's got distance, he helped us get into overtime with a clutch shot so he can handle the pressure, and he's young (25 years old).
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Suisham's kickoffs were at least adequate. Something Hall struggled with and Novak only dreamed of. There aren't a ton of kickers who have both the leg and accuracy we are looking for.
If only we had brought a good young guy back in the day. Oh whoops what ever happened to that guy Akers? |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
we are the team that let david akers walk. i say at least give suisham a chance. maybe we have something here
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Anyone got Chip Lohmiller on speed dial?
Chip was the last reliable guy we had. it's time to get someone that we don't have to cross our fingers for every time he kicks #1312 |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
There are some pretty good kickers in college right now whether or not they are coming out this year I really don't know.

I feel like good college kickers can be pretty iffy when they get to the NFL; maybe it's because the ball is different. This is one situation where I'd really rather pick up a free agent. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
All I have to say is:
HALLELUJAH! |

Agreed. Kickers don't have a learning curve or disrupt team chemistry either. They just kick and get ignored. Though I'm also not opposed to giving Suisham a shot. Matty, on your note about Josh Brown not being available, this got me thinking it's perfectly possible that the players currently listed as eligible for free agency in March may be cut in half by the time March rolls around. With so many teams absolutely flush with cap space, a lot of teams will be able to keep their guys if they so choose. We might see a lot of the quality free agents reupping with their teams over the next six weeks. That applies to every position, including kicker. |

I was thinking about this in terms of the Derrick Dockery situation (I know this is the wrong thread, but I'm just saying). I feel like the Skins are going to be at a huge disadvantage in terms of luring some of the free agents that we'll need. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
This is what bother's me about the choices being made over at Redskins park. If you give a young guy a shot and he proves himself, why replace him with some big dollar kicker that is "supposed" to play better and make things happen? The young guy that is doing well is the guy that will continue to work hard and do well because he has been given the opportunity of a life time. When you take a guy that has already proven his worth on some level, and then pay him millions to do what he is supposed to do every day - you get an AA!
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
John Hall was in the NFL about three seasons more than he should have been. He was drafted because he had a big leg in college. Where the hell did that go? Leave it to us to bring in a guy who stops using the juice after he gets the fat contract.
|
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Lets trade Saunders to the Raiders for Janikowski. ;)

Great post. Players need to feel like their hard work will be appreciated and rewarded. If they bust their ass in practice, do what's asked, and turn in a good season, they deserve a reward. To pass over them for the next high priced free agent is going to result in a pervading sense of injustice throughout the locker room. It causes players to think: "Well sh*t, Ryan Clark busted his ass and ran through walls for this team, and performed well out there. And then they let him go for this bum, AA? What incentive do I have to run through walls?" |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Just to add, I'm not trying to say we should just hand the job to Suisham. We can bring in a vet kicker for competition. But Suisham at least deserves a shot to earn the job, he's earned that much.
And that's all players can ask for. If Suisham gets beat out in training camp fair and square, then players will be alright with that. But if the 'Skins just up and let the guy go in lieu of Josh Brown or some other vet without even giving Suisham a shot to compete, the players won't take kindly. |

Not sure what all the injuries where about but last year the team thought they found the problem so thats why he got another chance (which as we all know did not work out). I don't think we can blame Hall for issues that for what I'm concern he had no control. I don't think he injured himself on purpose it was just one of those things that happens. I also do not believe that a kicker has to kick off past the 10 or 5 yard line everytime if they get the hang time allowing the players to get down field. I think thats what we have done is to ask our kicker to hang the ball up in the air instead of trying to nail lower longer kicks which can be an advantage to the receiving team. When we have been kicking off it seems that we have player down field to keep the returner from getting that first step.

The guy kicked the ball over the end zone on every kick in college. Now he can't get it to the ten yard line? He was on juice and quite honestly every player that pulls an Archuletta on us is officially under the microscope in my book. if you run a 4.4 and then you run a 4.7 I say you was on the juice then and now you got your money you not. |

Re: John Hall won't be brought back
Look, we still have our 2nd and 4th pick from 2008 right? Trade them to the Colts for AV and call it a day.

Except they're running through walls for selfish reasons instead of for the good of the team. If a player thinks he's just playing for a contract, he's more liklely to do what he can to rack up the gaudy stats and less likely to do the dirty work that doesn't show up quite as easily, like blocking. It's hard to get players to buy into playing a team-style game when they're only in it for themselves. |

I mean I realize the argument that the Redskins don't take care of their own (though I think it's a bit exaggerated). How much of a raise die Ryan Clark get for going to the Steelers by the way? |

Ironically, we could have passed on giving Lloyd the huge extension and signed Vinatieri last offseason. The Lloyd and Archuleta signings may be millstones on the back of this franchise for a while. |
Re: John Hall won't be brought back
I still think Suisham's the way to go...he's young strong and accurate and he didn't get rattled in a tough situation (the Rams game). All he needed to work on was his kick-offs a little fine tuning should take care of that. Suisham will be a fine NFL kicker.
