Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
Old Dallas coaches are on Jerry's mind and Norv is coming off a great season as SF OC. Could he be back?
Consider: 1. Has experience dealing with 2 of the worst owners in football (Al Davis being one of them), can certainly handle a 3rd 2. Has experience dealing with completely useless "superstar" WRs (Michael Westbrook) and Randy Moss in Oakland. 3. Has turned so-so RBs like Julius Jones into superstars (Stephen Davis) 4. Has dealt the Redskins many losses 5. Is willing to run half the team, leaving the other half to the DC as in SF How can JJ say no? |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
yes because every head coaching job Norv has ever done has bombed in disaster
|
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
I think he will receive strong consideration. Jones reportedly really regretted letting him get away.
Who knows, pair him with a top notch defensive coordinator... maybe someone also with some head coach experience, and maybe it could work. He is great with developing young QBs. |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
Well, he is good with developing QB's. I wouldn't be surprised if Norville got the nod. He is a lousy couch, but a very solid coordinator.
|
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
I love #4. Considering he dealt the Redskins most of these losses while he was head coach of the Redskins

Yea, he's pretty much the worst couch I've ever seen. |

Yeah that lumpy face is really uncomfortable. |

THIS is the worst couch I've ever seen..

Are you old enough to remember Ray Handley? How about Wayne Fontes? Does the name Richie Kotite ring a bell? Surely you recall Richie Pettibon, no? Dave Campo? Marion "Swamp Fox" Campbell? Leeman Bennett? Joe Kuharich? Abe Gibron? I will NOT try to say that Norv Turner is a good NFL head coach because his career says he is not. But the "worst"? I don't think so... |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
steve395 never said norv was the worst COACH, he said norv was the worst COUCH.
big difference |

Norv was long gone when Dallas drafted Julius Jones. |

Yet another Superbowl QB -- Rich Gannon -- let that team. Imagine if Gibbs had stayed 4 more years with Gannon rather than Norv drafting Patrick Ramsey? |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
i hope he does come back. to me, he is one of those guys thats a good coordinator, but not head coaching material
|
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
Did I say couch!!?? I meant waffle iron. Look at that mug! Edward James Olmos has fewer poc marks.
|
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
UPDATE:
JJ has sought and gotten permission to interview Norv, shortly after hiring Jason Garrett (Aikman's 1990s backup) as Dallas OC. Norv is coming....Norv in the middle of TO, Tony "Willie Beaman" Romo, and JJ should be QUITE entertaining. Just hope that he doesn't develop a RB, and they'll be soft. |

Do you mean Heath Shuler? No matter, neither of them were any good but please keep your wasted first round QB picks chronologically correct. |

Do you remember the 1st dallas - Skins game in 97? It was on a monday night & we won. at the end of the game Dan Dierdorf said something like "Norv Turner owns the Dallas Cowboys." We'd won 4 of 5 vs. boyz (remember the sweep of 95?) at that point w/Norv, but It was a curse that I never forgot. After that, we went on to lose 8 st. to them, I think 6 or 7 of them w/Norv. |

Well, considering that his teams had about as much discipline as a submarine crew on shore leave in Tijuana it's hard not to blame him for Ferrote being a f**k up. |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
One thing about Norv, he knew how to run the ball as Stephen Davis, Ricky Williams and Frank Gore testify. He would have been a better OC under Gibbs for "Redskin football" than you know who.

Norv didn't draft Patrick, Mr. Spurrier did |

LOLOLOL Wait... Tijuana isn't a port town... is it??? |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
Norv isn't going anywhere, at least not to Dallas. Garrett was hired to handle the offense and be a HC in waiting. Jones is going to hire a 3-4 DC to be the interim HC and get the defense in shape by the time Garrett is set to take over.

[/QUOTE] i would'nt call westbrook or moss useless, just very hard to please players.i think turner will be the coach, but since they have hired jayson garrett to be the OC.wonder if norv would still call the plays,or just work with the QBS? |

He aslo took us to the playoffs...If it wasn't for a Bad Snap the 'Skins would have been in the NFC Championship Game.... I was in Tampa that day and everyone in that stadium thought he would make that kick.... |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
I'll defer to TAFKAS and/or Matty as the historians here, but I really believe that Patrick Ramsey was a Redskins' draft choice because Danny Boy Snyder "discovered" him and thought he had a "big arm". Danny Boy consulted with Sonny Jurgensen on the matter and Sonny agreed that a "big arm" was a real asset for a QB. So Danny Boy guided the draft pick that year.
Unfortunately, Sonny didn't explain to Danny Boy that other attributes in addition to a "big arm" are necessary for NFL success as a QB. If a "big arm" guaranteed success all by itself, Jeff George would have at least 3 - if not 5 - Super Bowl rings by now. |

Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
Someone said earlier on that Norv drafted Ramsey. I believe my rendition of the facts leading up to the Ramsey acquisition are more accurate.
But I defer to either you or Matty as the official historians around here... |

He was here 7 years to long. I hope the Cowboys hire him because at least we will be assured that the boys will not make the playoffs. He has done well at OC in SF, Miami, San Diego, and Dallas. But as a head coach he sucks. His record speaks for itself. JKC why did you ever bring him to DC is a question I always ask. |
Re: Norv to Return to the NFC Beast?
I'm not saying he's ever going to be a good head coach I'm just trying to justify why the Cowboys would be interested in him.
His 7 year run here was about 3 years too long, but I would totally discount his time in Oakland. How any coach can win out there is beyond me. |

I think his past history before coming here was enough to give him a chance as a head coach as he was very successful in Dallas. It is the amount of time he was here that I would question. I just hope he does not become one of those guys who failed here but then came back and kick our butts. That would really suck. |
