Rush Limbaugh on Grossman Bashing
I am inclined to believe that Limbaugh aught to be taking more medication than he is currently taking. I think it's safe to believe that this guys is either insane or the greatest act on the planet.

Re: Rush Limbaugh on Grossman Bashing
Chris, my comment was a total tweak of the media, a play off my comments about them re: Donovan McNabb. Wanted to see if I could send them into a tailspin again, for the fun of it. And, sure enough, it has. I revealed this a little later in the show to a caller.
I actually thought this was pretty funny.
I think it's safe to say he was being ridiculous for the sake of ridiculous, but you never know for sure. I do think that SOME (not all) members of the media do carry a bias against white guys in sport, but it's safe to say that all the people in the media who think Chicago would have won the SB with "anyone but Grossman" probably suffer more from a lack of understanding on the game of football than an inherent bias. |
Re: Rush Limbaugh on Grossman Bashing
Sounds like he needs some more of his illegal prescription meds or whatever the hell he's on.

sorry to nitpick, but deberry's a coach and hornung a former player- not really media persons. |

Last time I checked Fisher Deberry is a coach and not part of the media. He's just a frustrated coach and even worse he called black athletes Afro-American players. No f'ing wonder they aren't playing for him given that he is stuck in the 50's. I feel really bad for the kids that were playing for him. Anywho, this is what he said after his team got wupped.
“It's very obvious to me the other day that the other team had a lot more Afro-American players than we did, and they ran a lot faster than we did. It just seems to be that way, that Afro-American kids can run very, very well. That doesn't mean that Caucasian kids and other descents can't run, but it's very obvious to me they run extremely well. Their defense had 11 Afro-American kids on their team, and they were a very, very good defensive football team. That's exactly what I was talking about.'’ - Fisher DeBerry
As for the lack of black athletes at Notre Dame, I fail to see how that in itself is a knock on white athletes. What was really disturbing about Paul Hornung statement was that he pushing for relaxing Notre Dame's admission standards. I mean, he was basically advocating that Notra Dame use black athletes so ND alumni can feel better about their overrated-10-straight-bowl-losing football program which I find highly offensive. In any case Paul Hornung doesn't exactly qualify as media either. He's just a former ND player voicing is opinion and frustration as an alumni. Any sane person would find what he said offensive.
"We can't stay as strict as we are as far as the academic structure is concerned because we've got to get the black athletes. We must get the black athletes if we're going to compete." -Paul Hornung
|

The majority of the media is made up of white people. It's hard for me to believe that they are "bias against white athletes." Unless of course you're advocating that black journalist have bias against white athletes or white journalists suffer from self-hatred. We all see what we want to see but I completely fail to see where you are coming from. If I missed something, please enlighten me. |
Re: Rush Limbaugh on Grossman Bashing
I think some (white) members of the media do actually feel guilty at times when writing about players of certain races, who are generally well respected. Most respected members of the media want to avoid accustations of a race bias at ALL costs. It's a label that could kill their careers. So is it unreasonable to assume that many media members (specifically sportswriters) have a bias that favors the black athlete? As much as I hate to say it, it's just how media members "play it safe". If they don't ever write controversially of a well respected black athlete, they can't be accused of a bias and they will keep their rep out of trouble. It's still a race bias, but not one that will get them in trouble.
Conversely, I do think there is a bias against any African American who is not well respected because of conduct issues. I realize that if a white player gets into trouble, he's probably much more willing to get a (relative) pass then if a black player does. It's wrong, but we jump on them anyway. |

I think it's wrong, but are you trying to tell me that either:
1) No white person in the media could possibly ever write something that overrates a black athlete; that is to say that the media is free of race bias. OR 2) White journalists that do write pieces that overrate a black athlete based on their race do so because they hate white people. Maybe they are just trying to do what they think is right, albeit biasedly. I think you are taking this a bit personally. I'm just sharing some observations I've made; this isn't the word of God here. I'm really trying to offend no one here. |
Re: Rush Limbaugh on Grossman Bashing
What about Michael Irvin (a member of the media) saying that Tony Romo must have some black blood in him because he is too athletic to be white? If that's not racist then I don't know what is.
I also distinctly recall statements from a few years ago about Keith Brooking and Urlacher getting more hype than they deserve just because they are white. I'm the first to admit that there is a lot of racism against blacks in the NFL in terms of GMs, coaches, and QBs. But, I also know that there is racism about white athletes. |
Re: Rush Limbaugh on Grossman Bashing
Hm I am not to sure that the media holds whites to a higher standard. That is just absurd. And Irvin is just a small percentage of the media, most people realize he is a terrible analyst and has very little credibility.
I would argue the opposite. That traditionally the QB position was viewed as a predominately white position, and I think it still has that view. I mean Doug Williams was the first black QB to win a superbowl and that wasn't too long ago. I still feel people have stereotypical view about the QB positions. I usually respect your opinion GTripp, but you can't seriously believe that if Rex Grossman was black he would get less criticism? Seriously look at his stats and his performance during the superbowl. He failed to convert on crucial downs and had some absolutely horrible throws. This is like saying if Mark Brunell was black the media wouldn't be as hard on him, which I would highly doubt. I respect how you always back up all your arguments with statistics and logic, but this one doesn't seem to have either of those... |

kidding or not he is a racist prick

Biggest problem with Rush is that you can't tell when he is serious and when he is joking.

You can but what people who do not like him tend to do is post half of what he said. I saw a site once that listed things that they said he was wrong about factualy but I could tell that what they had done was to post only a sound bite here and there of what he really said. |

Actually that's the best thing about him. It gets the people who hate him and actualy spend their lives looking for something to use against him all riled up and looking like idiots all of the time because they're the butt of the joke. Sometimes he'll say something outrageous just because he knows they'll hear a few words and start having seizures over it. He'll say something like "bunnies should die" on purpose and when you tune into NPR or CNN, you'll hear an exasperated reporter saying "GASP! RUSH LIMBAUGH HATES RABBITS AND WANTS THEM ALL DEAD AS HEARD HERE <clip of Rush saying only "Bunnies should die" and cutting out the part where he's saying that he just wants to hear them take him seriously>. Even when he SAYS he's joking, they splice up the audio and try to use it against him and it's really pathetic....and funny. Sometimes, I think the writers and reporters who quote him don't even listen to him...they'll just get a frantic call from someone who heard half a sentence and they'll write an article or do a TV report based on what their friend or co-worker "heard" him say. :cheeky-sm |
