Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
Bears designate Briggs as franchise player - Chicago Bears
The Samuel tagging was reported on NFL network. If anyone finds a link, please post. The Briggs tagging will have litte effect on us, but Samuels tagging should raise the price tag on fellow CB, Nate Clements--something that could directly effect this team. |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
I dont see in what way this could be good for us. What we (throretically) give Clements might jump from say 6.5 mil to 8 maybe 9. Not good....

Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
At this point I don't want to over spend on Clements really. I am confortable with a market value deal but nothing over priced. Are there any lower class options I wonder?
Man we are in a bind at CB. If only we could count on Rogers stepping it up. |

All he has to do is learn how to catch and he's good. Im sure someone besides me on the coaching staff noticed that and did something. Either way, I think he will perform MUCH better this year. Quote me on that. |

His one year in Gregg Williams system, he was definitely a positive. It goes without saying that he has better hands than Carlos Rogers. I also like the fact that he fought through a significant injury to his sternum to stay on the field at one point during his stint here. I WOULD NOT overpay for Clements, or any other CB for that matter. I've repeatedly said that the Skins need to reinforce the D-line to take pressure off the DBs. Get a sustained pass rush from the front 4, and Carlos Rogers will become more than servicable, and Sean Taylor will take his game to the next level. |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
its ture that we need defensivve line help but we will get that in the draft and the 3rd best cb in the fa pool is roderick hood from the eagles no no no i say we give nate clements a 6 or 7 year deal worth about 35 to 40 million dollar contract with about a 12.5 million dollar signing bonus the gut deserves it he has been a shut down corner for years he has covered marvin harrison twice a year every year of his career i say we pay for clements
HE DESERVES IT HE HAS EARNED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Smoot would be nice as would Clements. I feel that either would be worth a decent but not exorbiant amount of money due to our lack of quality depth at DB positions. Getting pressure from front four would DEF take a lot of pressure off the secondary and would help the D in general. |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
smoot just as good as clements in what galaxy
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
Didnt say he was just as good. I like Smoot. He has a big mouth but he can play. Clements is just talent. I would take either at this point dur to our defense's disgusting performance at times last year. We will probably get Clements because I really dont see Smoot coming here, dont know if I mentioned that before.

I don't think anyone suggested that...but he played really well here, has a lot of heart, and, to me, represents a "Joe Gibbs" type guy...I hated letting him go |

Thats what I'm saying. Kinda like Betts. A real "Joe-Gibbs" type of guy. Team player, versatile and his running style (sans fumbilitis) is conducive with Redskin football. Smoot could comeback but I just dont see it. |

If you could get Smoot for $3M per season or Clements for $7M, who is the better value? We don't need to overpay yet again. With our cap situation, going for the value play at CB and leaving money to shore up the D-line and MLB would be the better way to go. |

I agree about Betts...obviously, if the deal is too good to pass up, the deal is too good to pass up, but the one on the table with Vilma and a lower pick isn't worth it. As far as Smoot goes, I've always felt he hated leaving DC, but I too don't think he'll be back. If we're sitting here talking about it, then the front office is too...but there are ego's involved. |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
the money issue is a good point but clements has also had experience in greg williams system and he is more physical and bigger than smoot i like smoot too and i hated seeing him go also but at this point i would rather have clements

Ya the deal with Vilma-Betts is bogus. If it was Betts and #6 for Vilma and maybe 3 lower picks, I might consider it more heavily. Dont get me started on ego's. We ALL know how big Smoot's is. hahahaha |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
The Skins fought too hard last season for that #6 pick.
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
hahahahahahaha that is funny with that number 6 pick we shiuld draft either alan branch or gaines adams

I too think Branch should be the pick if he's stiill there at #6, but who knows, maybe we'll forego the best D lineman in the draft and take Leon Hall since we seem to be desperate for a CB. So far we've traded Portis to Detroit, and Betts to the NYJ. I'm trying to figure out who is going to run the ball for us. |

when did we trade portis to detroit and leon hall cant guard dwayne jarrett or ted ginn so i dont want to see him guarding plax or terrell owens he is overrated this is not a cornerback friendly draft and we should stick to the defensive line |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
The problem with Smoot is that he simply doesn't fit our defense that well. Our CBs are required to be able to cover, which he can, and play the run well, which he doesn't. He is simply too fragile to be a force in the run stopping department. I think he adds depth and a knowledge of the D but I hesitate to think he'd have a huge impact.
I really think we are up a creek if CR doesn't make a step forward next year. |

it was a rumor |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
Has Clements already had the tag put on him last year, or is that still an option for the Bills??
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
Bills wont tag him. They are cheap and a CB tag is the second highest tag. It is over 10 million I think. No way they're shelling out dough like that. Hell the guy is considering selling the team
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
Kind of unrelated... but do you guys think that we will tag Dock if we cant resign him?
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
I'm not sure that either Briggs or Samuel were very high on our target list to begin with.
Briggs is an OLB and it appears we are set on acquiring a MLB and moving Marshall back to the outside to compete for that job with McIntosh, and Samuel isn't an ideal fit for GW's defense. |

Yeah they can't afford to commit to a guy like that when they have so many other needs. Plus like you said it's Buffalo, they're not known for dealing out big contracts. Here's a recent article from ESPN about Clements ESPN.com - NFL - Bills' free agency budget could affect resigning Clements |
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
The odds are we are going to get a Smoot or a Harper now.Clements just went way up in money and there is a lot of teams that want a corner. So we wont be able to sign him.I think we need to resign Springs for sure now.
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
I guarantee we sign Nate Clements perfect fit for the skins defense and he he said last year when they tagged him that he would love to play for greg williams defense and when he was tagged that is when we went after archuleta and i think we should have kept ryan clark and plus it is dan synder and the redskins they will pay for Nate Clements and has fred smoot been cut yet
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
I hate to tell you ,but we are not the only team that needs a CB.He might like GW and all,but he likes money more.So expect him to go to a team that can give him more money.
|
Re: Remove Briggs, A. Samuel from FA Shopping Lists
it is the redskins man of course we will pay him what he wants we will restruct contracts and sign him
