Here are some additional highlights of London Fletcher and Nate Clements from last season.

|
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out

|
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
the losman hit on zack thomas later in that clip was more impressive....
|
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
that CAN'T be legal.

Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
Yo, C. Rogers makes those hit. Hell, The Ade has had better hits than that.
p.s. Is it just me or are people blowing Clements up? He ain't no Champ that's for sure. |
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
don't get me started on champ. even when he was in Washington, i thought Bailey was one of those media monsters, like mike Vick. now i do think Bailey is a fine corner. but not this deion sanders creature that all the media wants everyone to believe

As far as Clements goes, he's one of the top available cornerbacks in free agency, and he's far and away better than anyone we have now. There should be little doubt that he'd make our secondary better. No, he's probably not on the level of Champ, but not many are, and we won't have the chance at a player like that anyway. That might be why you see a lot of people are high on him. After a year like 2006, we salivate for the above-average around here. |

This year, it seemed to me that Champ raised his game to the level that his rep was at. He was a monster. In the past, I couldn't help but think that just maybe he was the leagues most overrated defensive player.
He's right in his prime now, and does have HOF type potential. |

CR jacked up Alexander, putting his helmet on the ball forcing a fumble which rolled out of bounds. Clements is a top notch CB by anyones standards and he's perfect for Grilliams. He's even better in run support than Champ. |
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
They have three big hits on that clip for the entire team and season? WOW! We had more hard hits on that one punt return where we leveled 2 or 3 guys coming across the field after El.
hey big hit or not, hes a HUGE upgrade to springs and rogers
Clements is healthier than Springs and brings more experience than Rogers, but huge upgrade? Check last year's performance: Clements Tackles - 80 INTs - 3 Passs Defended - 16 Rogers Tackles - 79 INTs - 1 Passes Defended - 16 Stats from NFL.com Rogers game improved late in the season, so we could see a bump in his performance this year. Springs hasn't completed a 16 game season since 2000. I have a feeling the starting CB line-up will be Clements and Rogers. That's IF we land him. I don't think he's worth Adam Archuleta $$$. The Skins have about $4.5 million in cap dollars. The Bills and Detroit, who also has man love for Clements (and who told CB Dre' Bly to go away) each have $30 million+ cap room. They each could outbid the Redskins if they want. Of course, our guys have been very clever with contracts. Could turn out that Clements signs with Detroit and Bly cascades to us. |

I suspect that is much higher for Rogers than Clements. |

i'd guarantee that. times burnt isn't a kept stat, but rogers was a league leader, i'm sure. |

you love your stats, maybe you just came up with a new one. because i agree with you, rogers was just pure toast for a good part of last season |

Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
I bet Rogers droped more balls than Clements.

I agree. I'm surprised I never saw that during the season. Any block from a QB on a MLB is exceptional -- especially when it's a pancake. |

Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
Rogers is always jacking people up. A lot of people agree on this and I believe it's true: he is one of the best "tacklers" in the league at corner.
People are always on his ass because they parrot what they read. He had two "bad" games, really only one if you throw out the Joey Galloway touchdown. |

We had a defensive line that was consistently pushed off the ball and we finished exactly league average vs the run. That's a tribute to the job the guys in the secondary (Namely #22 and #21) did playing the run probably better than any secondary in the league. Now if we could only get a secondary that played the pass better than a few of the 31 other teams, that'd be fantastic. |
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
I wouldn't even go THAT far. I think he got toasted fairly badly in the Vikings game. After that, I'd really only say I can recall the Joey Galloway one. Teams threw away from him the rest of the season (mainly because Wright was on the other side).

Our blitzes never got there (cause the line was horrible) and we hung our DBs out to dry. So the toastings aren't completely his fault even.
He does have to shrink that "cussion" though. I don't care if its the scheme or him, but that's gotta go. |
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
I agree. When he was playing man coverage, he was always all over his receiver. That's something that needs to change too...way too much Cover 2.
I agree. When he was playing man coverage, he was always all over his receiver. That's something that needs to change too...way too much Cover 2.
One other thing: many young CBs in this league bust because while they are in there, they hold and grab and committ illegal contact fouls that cost their team. Rogers has done none of that. Due to this, he will continue to progress next year instead of having to unlearn a bad habit, a la Ahmad Carroll of the Packers who is now out of the league.
A lot of our schemes seem bizarre. I'm not going to play psychologist though, I just hope it gets better for next year. |
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
Now he just has to hold onto the damn ball. We've said it many times, but if he holds onto all of those "sure" interceptions, he would have had at least 4-5 more picks. In addition to that if he even caught 25% of the ones that were more difficult, he'd have maybe had in the range of 8-9 INTs and we're all having a VERY different conversation right now.

That doesn't matter to me. He's putting himself in position to make a bunch of picks, and poor hands aside, he is going to make a percentage of those catches. He will lead the team in INTs probably every year for the next 5 going foward. Just a prediction. |
Re: Nate Clements hit, check it out
If the 49ers don't sign Clements and Thomas I will be kind of pissed.
