I am hoping that this apartment eviction thing snaps his ass in gear.I think he will now see that being in training camp on time is his only way to save face.

RedskinRat 07-10-2004 01:15 PM

I don't know enough about him personally but I'm sure Coach Gibbs/Williams will be around to set him right.

MTK 07-10-2004 01:18 PM

I'm forever an optimist so I'm saying day one. Worst case scenario sometime during week one.

It's critical that he's in there early.

SKINSnCANES 07-10-2004 01:41 PM

I said day one as well, because id rather not consider any other option. He could easily win defensive player of the year this year if he gets in their from the start and learns how to produce at the nfl level.

Big C 07-10-2004 02:35 PM

defensive player of the year? over ray lewis? or do u mean defensive rookie of the year. I think that could be in the future the defensive player of the year, but now he certainly has a shot to be the best defensive rookie, being the top defensive player chosen.

SKINSnCANES 07-10-2004 02:37 PM

well, I meant to say defensive rookie of the year. But I dont see Lewis winning defensive player of the year this year. Hes on the cover of madden remember?!? heh.

Id love to see arrington step up and win defensive player of the year though.

Big C 07-10-2004 02:55 PM

ah yes, i forgot about the curse hehe. maybe LA will get it, that would be cool (defensive player of the year, not cover curse)

JWsleep 07-10-2004 03:53 PM

Day one: the power of positive thinking!

C'mon Sean, get yer sh** together, man!!!

skinsfanthru&thru 07-10-2004 04:41 PM

I voted for sometime during the first week. plus once a couple other top 10 picks sign it will free up the preverbeal log jam and the picks will sign in droves.

That Guy 07-11-2004 03:23 AM

he needs an agent still, once he gets that, i don't think it'll take too long... he seems like the tpe of guy that really wants to play, but a couple off field (weird/minor) hiccups went down. I'm hoping it clears up and its all forgotten about by week 2.

bedlamVR 07-11-2004 05:30 AM

I still have the feeling he is just going to walk away from football entirly the off the field behaviour is very very odd and unsetling ... I hope i am wrong and every day i hope to hear he has signed with an agent or better signed with the Skins but we are mid July now the clock is ticking

Gmanc711 07-11-2004 07:35 AM

Walk away from football completley?? You really think he'd throw away the multi-million dollars that he is going to be getting? I have to say I strongly Disagree with that. Theres no way he walks away from football.

Personally, I dont think he is going to be there for the first practice of training camp. I really dont like the rule that you have to be signed to be in camp, because I think alot of plyaers would still practice with the team. I vote somtime during the first week.

jbcjr14 07-11-2004 09:28 AM

I think Gibbs is going to step in on this one and he will be there day one. If not, he will be in the Gibbs "doghouse" and we all know what happens then (Desmond Howard)!!!

jasonskin 07-11-2004 10:43 AM

If his dream was to play in the NFL he will be there on day one

SKINSnCANES 07-11-2004 12:49 PM

He wouldnt have left school early if he didnt want to play. THe circumstances around him to seem a bit odd, but they are odd because he hastn explained them. Im sure he'll get an agent soon, sign and have a press conference. Of course they did say he was going to sign an agent last weekend didnt they?

skinsfanthru&thru 07-12-2004 12:29 AM

does anyone else think the possible $10,000 fine against Taylor for missing part of the rookie symposium is a tad harsh? especially for someone coming into the league and who had a legitimate excuse to leave. in the WP post on the subject they mentioned the league fined ryan leaf when he missed part of it because he was speaking at a children's football camp. How f-ed up is that that u r gonna fine a young player who went and talked at a kids camp instead of getting advice in an auditorium?

That Guy 07-12-2004 02:31 AM

because they think its that important, and if you let one guy out, then that lets other's make excuses or schedule excuses for those days. Its possibl the only time before the season they have to hammer home the importance of not wasting money, dealing with the public/media, expectations and the rest. Its in the leagues best interest and the players... and well, they obviously want to make sure everyone is there.

on a side note, i really wish taylor had an agent or PR guy to at least give some indication of what's up, cause he really seems to like keeping things quiet.

Oh jeez! Ryan Leaf giving advice to kids. I just hope Sean Taylor wasn't one of those kids back in '98.

MTK 07-12-2004 08:50 AM

It's obviously something that the NFL takes very seriously.

I'm willing to give Taylor the benefit of the doubt for now, but it would be nice to hear some positive things about him for a change!

No agent, missing practices, taking off from the rookie symposium, ugh!

sportscurmudgeon 07-12-2004 01:27 PM

Someone said that Joe Gibbs was going to step in and make all this work out. Can you explain how that will happen? Is Gibbs going to forge Taylor's signature on a contract? I doubt that he will give him an ultimatum to sign his contract by a certain date or the Skins are going to release him. Just what coercive power do you think Gibbs has here?

Look, Taylor does not have an agent as of this moment. Unless he is as dumb as a box of rocks, he will not try to negotiate his own contract the first time around. So until he hires an agent - or re-hires the one he fired - there will be no progress on negotiations no matter who the Skins assign to do the negotiating.

Once he hires an agent, that will determine how fast the negotiations proceed. There are agents out there whose standard tactic to to string things along until the team is desparate to get the guy into camp and that is how they think they get contract concessions. If Taylor picks one of these "slow progress" guys, you won't see him until after the 3rd preseason game. If he hires a guy who believes in long negotiating sessions to get to a deal, he could be signed withing a week or ten days after the new agent and the Skins begin talking.

So, what's the over/under on the number of days until Taylor hires an agent? Then, what's the probability that it will be a "fast-mover" as opposed to a "slow-progressor"?

My opinion is that Sean Taylor will not be going to Japan...

Japan?
Japan?
Make that Canton-- and not the one in China, either.;)

SmootSmack 07-12-2004 01:36 PM

I guess it would be time to start worrying if he really did go to Japan instead of Canton. LOL

MTK 07-12-2004 02:45 PM

Maybe Gibbs is threatening to send him to Japan if he doesn't sign?! LOL

sportscurmudgeon 07-12-2004 10:27 PM

Sorry about that gentlemen. I was fixated on the previous trip to Japan to play a pre-season game and my fingers typed the words before my brain was engaged. That's dangerous - - having your fingers in overdrive and your brain in neutral. :confused-

To restate my opinion more geographically correctly, I think Sean Taylor will miss the HoF game in Canton, Ohio against the Broncos.

BTW, John Thompson and Doc Walker had some less than polite and courteous things to say about Taylor and his maturity level and his focus today.

itvnetop 07-12-2004 11:03 PM

as long as taylor doesn't sign master p to represent him...

espn says that several players have been fined for missing the symposium for even more legitimate reasons for the player- dayne had an ear infection with a doctor's note saying he couldn't fly and some other guy was helping his sister give birth or something... maybe dayne should have gone anyway...

gibbsmeatitle 07-12-2004 11:05 PM

My first post so I'll keep it brief. This sounds like trouble a la one Michael Westbrook. I hope I'm wrong. I hope...

That's ok, you gave us all a good laugh today

BossHog 07-14-2004 02:56 PM

Any other top 10 picks signed?

That Guy 07-14-2004 04:36 PM

only first rounder signed so far is the texans' i believe.

MTK 07-14-2004 07:52 PM

the real question should be how many other first rounders have agents?

bedlamVR 07-15-2004 04:11 AM

Tick tock tick tock the clock is ticking there is no way Taylor is going to be in shape or in camp on day one... he has missed voluntery work outs and just out right doenst seem interested in signing for the skins

backrow 07-15-2004 12:38 PM

I hope this connects you!

I've heard this guy, Del Duca on the local radio. He's an agent that knows what he is talking about!

That Guy 07-15-2004 12:42 PM

corrected link for mozilla browsers (mine keep having the actual ... in the link itself):

I'm gonna be flat out honest now. Ill be VERY suprised if hes in camp the first week. This is really starting to look bad. Camp starts in 15 Days, and "if somthings gonna happen, its gotta happen now." Seriously though, he needs to have a agent by weeks end to have any sort of chance of getting into camp.

That Guy 07-15-2004 12:47 PM

good article, thanks.

I hope he's not holding out for 1%, in the long run, its not really that much money, and he'll be getting a ton of cash from his 6% take on jerseys and such...

SkinsRock 07-15-2004 01:04 PM

Yeah, it's officially mid July, and still no agent. What is up with this guy? I'm with Gmanc711...the longer this goes on, the more skeptical I am of him showing up to camp on time...or close to it......

Come on Sean, get it together!!!

Bergman14 07-16-2004 01:50 PM
If his dream was to play in the NFL he will be there on day one
well all rookies who dont have a contract are not even allowed to be at training camp, so its really up to his agent and the team
