Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Thats great news now does he play tackle or start at guard
|
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Tackle, we need him for depth, unless we can't draft a decent guard or get a fa that can step in.
Great signing, glad he didn't get away. Samuels or jansen are bound to be nicked up a couple games, that's when this signing will really look good. |
thanks i dont know how to link pages
The easy way is just copy and pasting the URL in your post. Another way is to select the Insert Link icon (earth+chain link) and inserting the URL there. For example, when I created a post I typed Redskins sign Todd Wade and highlighted that phrase then I clicked on the Insert Link icon and pasted the address of the article in the URL field. |
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
This is actually really good news. Hopefully though, we'll pick up another decent O-lineman.

Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
I like the move but why are we paying 3+ mil a year for a back-up? I don't think Wade plays left guard.

Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Glad Wade is back for depth all along the line... However did anyone catch Shefter's other story?
He says that the SKins are looking hard at Jemarcus Russell and considering a trade up. WHY? WHY? WHY? Was Campbell a wasted pick or is this a smoke screen. |

Schefter is probably speculating as much based on our presence at LSU's pro day. If, in the highly unlikely turn of events, the story is true I might actually consider suicide. |

That'd be some kind of draft day headline....Redskins Fans Across Nation Commit Mass Suicide |
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
They were probably looking at LaRon Landry.
|
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
If we make that move I give up on this team. So I am just going to ignore it.
As for Wade: he was looking for a place with an opportunity to start so I am surprised he signed here unless we gave him some assurances he would get a shot at guard. He'll be perfectly fine at guard if he can stay healthy. I'd still like another 1 or 2 olinemen in the mold of Wade from last year. Decent quality maybe coming off a little injury. Some good depth guys. Not guys who just take a spot but someone who can come in and hold the fort down ala Wade last year in very limited duty. Super happy on this signing. |
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Anyone else think Schefter has slipped? It seemed when he first started at NFLN he was the guy with all the inside info. Now he seems to speculate a bit or maybe he is just being used as a puppet by teams now that he has a modicum of respect and reliability. There's just no way Russell is anywhere on our radar unless it is a smokescreen for draft purposes.

overpaying for a backup
|
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Great move on the Skins part, hopefully we will still bring Mulitalo in.
|
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Why do people think that he is being over paid as a back up? First, he did a great job filling in for Jansen last year. In fact I don't think that he gave up a sack or even a hurry in that game that he started. Second, he knows the system, much easier for him to step in and the line not miss a beat should, God for bid, Jansen or Samuels go down for a few games. Third, what would you rather do? Let him go and bring in a guy that is totaly new to the system and you are not sure of what you got until a starter goes down to only then find out that you should have kept Wade for 2 years at 6.2million, but instead you got a guy who is usless and can't protect a cup of piss...

Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Why do we assume he is a backup?
Also JLC says it is not a done deal yet. I trust JLC over schefter. Todd Wade - It's Getting Close - Redskins Insider |
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
This would make me really happy. 3 mil a year for your top backup OL (or perhaps starting guard) is entirely reasonable. People on this site seem to be OBSESSED with signing everyone for "vet minimum"...and if we dont do that its a horrible signing. Fellas (and hess :-P), no starter or top backup plays for vet minimum...and if they do youre getting exactly that, a vet with minimum talent.
As for Jamarcus Russell, I cant imagine this is even worth following...but hey, Ive been wrong before. |

Todd Wade - It's Getting Close - Redskins Insider
we assume he is a backup because 6'8" is a little tall for a guard. hard to get low when you are that tall, leverage would be a big problem id imagine. |

There is only a 2 inch difference between Wade and Dockery, plus Wade is about 20lbs lighter that Dockery which might make gettin low for leverage a bit easier for Wade... |

2 inches can make a lot of difference. if we do use him at guard i hope he will be a success, im just not sold on it by any means |

You might be right, after looking it looks like most guards are about 6'2" to 6'6" in that range. Either way I think that having Wade on the team for OL depth is good. And besides that Jansen isn't getting any younger. I am not insinuating that Wade start over Jansen, but I am saying that haveing Wade on the bench waiting to be used incase of an injury seems to me to be a good thing... |
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
hopefully it will be ed muiltalio
I would feel a lot better if it was ed M! Then he and Wade could fight for the guard spot in camp!
|
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Here is my take on Wade vs Dockery. I don't believe we will see any let down if he [Wade] is the starting guard! I think his pass blocking will be the same as Dock but Wade will be a better pull blocker the Dockery! Dock might be a little better in power blocking but that might be the same as well!

good move by the skins. the sight of another cory raymer sighting at guard makes me want to puke

SKINS agree with terms with OL WADE
NFL.com reports, Skins and OL Wade reach agreement 2 year deal 6.2 mil. 3.5 mil guranteed.

Good deal. I like the steady pace of our off season at this point. Now lets address the D line and have a smart draft . Was wondering does anyone know? Do we have all our draft pick for 2008? |

Re: SKINS agree with terms with OL WADE
ian scott next? if so, we'll probably go straight up DE in the draft and all the needs will have been addressed in some fashion.
|
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
i don't think he'd be getting 3mill to be a backup... someone is probably moving to guard (him or jansen), though i guess its possible we'll try mulitalo too, but i just don't see throwing that much money on the OL.
with the remaining space, i'd really like to see ian scott signed as a #2 DT, but i don't think the skins are interested. |
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
I agree. Why is everyone concerned that we paid too much? You know what I'M HAPPY ABOUT? I'm happy about the fact that we didn't just sign him to a fat contract right out of the gates. We knew he wanted to start, we waited for interest to dry up and then we went out and signed him at a reasonable contract. Bravo front office, Bravo.
|
Re: SKINS agree with terms with OL WADE
If we sign Ian Scott, I firmly believe we're going to do a little wheeling-and-dealing in the draft to still pick up one of the top DEs (any of the big three should be available at the Texans spot) and get another early round pick that we can spend on whatever we want!
|
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Yes, I agree with Malcolm here. The FO did the right thing on Wade. Wait it out and then get it done for way less than you would have at the beginning of free agency.
Kudos to the FO, this is a good move! |
Re: Redskins Sign Todd Wade to 2 year deal
Let's compare Wade's contrcat to Dock's contract and dcide who we'd rather have. Is there anyone who thinks Dock at his current price is a better option at guard than Wade at his current price? I doubt it.
