Archuleta goes out talking smack...

Archuleta offers his parting shots - Sports - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper

I just love when athletes say they could say a lot more but... and then go on to open up a bunch of supposition.

He was a system safety who looked good in St Loo, and got exposed when asked to utilize some football intelligence in Washington.

I am still amazed that you guys got rid of his contract AND got a 6th pick for him...

Archuleta can suck it! Why didn't he show us last year? What a complete Dickhead!

I don't really think of that as a parting shot. I think everybody knows there are issues at Redskins Park. The trade worked out for everybody.

This is funny...
"I don't think there are many safeties who can do what I do underneath," said Archuleta, who made his reputation with the Rams as a run-stopper. "People like to say I can't cover. I don't believe it. I don't have a lot of interceptions, [but] I don't get beat a lot, [and] rarely was I out of position until last season."
remember when he should have cost us the cowboys game because he was out of position?

an honest response would be, 'I didn't live up to my personal expectations, nor did I live up to my contract. I would like to thank the organization for giving me the opportunity to continue my career in Chicago'.

Issues aside, players rarely take their own actions into consideration.

Well said. I'd probably expand that to say: people rarely take their own actions into consideration. It's always somebody else's fault.

We saw exactly what he is capable of when he was "covering" Witten at the end of the game.

This asshole may have not gotten a "fair shake" here but he did absolutely nothing to help his situation.

I'd love to see Urlacher put his helmet between AA's numbers the first time he gets burned deep...which I guess will be the 2nd or 3rd play during the 1st preseason game...

Yeah I laughed when he said he rarely gets beat but got beat over and over again. Like if Carlos Rogers came out and said that he'd give a clinic on how to cover a stop and go route. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

Although it could have been worse... still a showing that he has no class, blaming the org. I actually burst out laughing when i read him say "I don't get beat a lot, [and] rarely was I out of position until last season"

Talking smack? SUUUUUUUUUUUUURE...

"I don't regret signing with the Redskins."

"In a certain sense, I hit rock-bottom, so I learned a lot about myself. I think I'm better as a person and better as a football player because of it. This move is best for the Bears, best for the Redskins and best for me."

I'm looking forward to the fans of Washington actually seeing what I'm capable of doing and what I could have been doing in a Redskins uniform."

OH, so inflammatory!

This is a non-story. He's right that Redskins fans don't know what he's capable of. He didn't learn the system and get on the field to show up. I'm sure he IS a good player in certain systems with his physical shape, but he just couldn't do well and learn our system.

No reason to hate him any more than Patrick Ramsey, who suffered the same learning disability in Landover.

"The communication between me and certain members of the coaching staff was pretty nonexistent for the last few months of the season. I could air a whole bunch of different laundry. There's a lot more going on [at Redskin Park] than people understand."

I think he is directly referring to the stuff that JLC was talking about in that notorious Post article.

Seeya Arch, wouldn't have minded seeing you actually do something here, but you didn't.

5rings, good to see you. While I hate your team, I love when knowledgeable fans from other teams come by. That's what makes this site great. Don't listen to the naysayers that shrug you off because of your avatar!

That can be said for ummmmmm.... ST, Rogers, Wright, Rumph, Jimoh, and who else.

Witten is a pretty good TE and AA was in the area.

welcome back 5rings, and you are right on the money. when is the last time any athlete came out after a poor season and took the blame? he could have said that because i was the highest paid safety, ever, in the NFL, i just didn't perform like it

I don't ever remember him bitching about being on the bench, I mean I could see it being others. I dont think it was Springs because he openly denied it and was offended that he was linked to it.

I guess it is was him, but you would think a vet like him wouldnt do something like that.

Re: Archuleta goes out talking smack...

Arch was a probowler in St Louis for a reason. He was a stud at run support, and playing cover 2. I am not making excuses for the guy, but GW brought him in here, showed him game film of what he would be doing, and GW didn't put him in those positions. Everyone knew he couldn't cover that well, but GW put him in coverage ONE ON ONE mind you!! that is the responsibility of the coach to know your players limitations. he didn't get burned in ST Louis because he was always over the top, not ONE ON ONE. I have a hard time believing the guy "forgot" or couldn't learn how to play football with us. I think, putting him in the right position, he could be a very good player. He is awesome at blitzing, and playing close like a LB. the whole damn league knew he couldn't cover one on one, but GW's ego thought he could make him a cover safety. Why do you think people went after him time after time! I think he didn't get a fair shake from the stand point of what they said he was going to be doing. I feel bad for the guy, he wasted a whole year of his career sitting on the bench being punt team capt. (it reaks of the whole LaVar thing. Teams, GMs, media, football experts didn't understand why GW wasn't playing LaVar or putting him in position to be the playmaker everyone knew he was. ) sorry for the LaVar sidenote.. but its a similar situation. Both players fell out of favor and basically got tossed aside. GW has to put his ego in check and learn to use his talent in the way it helps the team. to use a persons talent. Arch may not have been good for GW's system, I believe everyone knew that. I hope Arch does well in his new uni - I am sure he will.

You'd also think a vet like that wouldn't even run his mouth at ALL after he got traded. Just say something simple about how it's nice to be in a new situation.

Someone mentioned blowing above and I think the only blowing going on is Arch and himself.

For having such a crappy season, he sure did have a lot of nice things to say about himself.

I think AA was an insurance policy if ST hadn't been able to play last season. Thank goodness that didn't happen and look for a return to glory from Williams and the Redskins D! AA can kiss my ass!

I was fine with everything he said but this statement requires some input.

He was known as a guy who couldn't cover coming into the league. He was known as a safety who couldn't cov er in STL. He was known as a safety who couldn't cover when we got him. And he was SHOWN as a guy who couldn't cover here. In fact he had the worst cover abilities I have ever seen for a safety. What makes him think he can cover? Just a completely unsupported confidence that eh can. Arch, YOU CAN'T COVER. It is our fault for thinking we could teach you how or put you in right situations but it is YOUR FAULT that you CAN'T EFFING COVER.

"I don't believe it"... Isn't the saying "seeing is believeing". I have seen it Adam and you sir CANNOT COVER.
