My guess is that it could be his playing days with the Titans could also be over. I definately applaud the move. I wonder if Pacman is going to get in more trouble given all the free time he'll have on his hands.

I just pray I don't have to hear Deion Sanders say, yet again, on the NFL Network that Pacman is the victim because "he never saw a grown man shave."

Re: Pacman suspendened for entire 2007 season!

Deion should open a crisis hotline, because anytime T.O. or whomever gets in hot water he's right there defending and making excuses.

These are grown ass men for crying out loud!

the big question is, will this hold up against the union?
the big question is, will this hold up against the union?
I think the union has to be careful with this and let it ride. They would certainly be walking a very, very fine line with trying to defend Pac on this one. Furthermore, in doing so they would send the wrong message and might fall out of favor with the Commish.

Upshaw and Co. should stay away from this one.

FRPLG 04-10-2007 01:34 PM

Re: Pacman suspendened for entire 2007 season!

How the union handles this is goign to be interesting. There are a lot of players who are going to applaud this. I would guess a majority of them think it is pretty fair. The question is does the union appeal this just because they can and usually would. I hope not. I hope Upshaw comes out and says "We are diligent in the protection of our players and their rights but the players must be as diligent in the protection of the integrity of this game. Both of these players have betrayed the trust of their team, fellow players, union and league and we will let them be the example by which other players should take notice. Going forward I hope there is no need for such drastic suspensions as these players are clearly the exdeption and not the rule."

Yeah, I really love how he opens up his mental thesaurus and starts belting out these rhyming "fancy words" that he doesn't know how to use. He thinks he's smart, but he just sounds like a moron (like the guy in Sopranos).

Re: Pacman suspendened for entire 2007 season!

I wonder how involved Goodell has gotten other players and the union in this decision. I know he has put together a committee of current players on this stuff. Our man James Thrash and former man Tory Vincent are two of maybe 8 or so guys who I guess will offer a player's perspective on stuff like this.

I dont really agree with Chris Henry, 8 games is a lot

Re: Pacman suspendened for entire 2007 season!

Was Pacman deserving of TWICE the punishment of Henry? Granted, Henry didn't make it rain, but he has still been busted what, like 7 times since coming in the league? They should have both gotten a year.

Anyone have any idea of the parameters of this new discipline policy? I.E. 2 arrests = a suspension...

Chris Henry has been arrested multiple times for the same types of offenses.
How many times do you have to touch a hot stove before you realize that you shouldn't touch it anymore?

to play devils advocate( i really think Jones deserves his punishment) what grounds does the NFL have for the suspension? there were no policies in place when all the thuggery had taken place

Pacman directly violated a rule in the personal conduct code for players. He kept secret an arrest for over a season.

Re: Pacman suspendened for entire 2007 season!

if the union lets it go, this gives the NFL a precedent for future suspensions, deeming whenever and where ever they seem fit. they almost have to appeal, then look like crap in the public eye

I'm not sure i buy this. i would think that the NFL would have access to any legal records as an employer. but then again, the confidentiality laws are very strict

There absolutely were. The personal conduct code has been around.

And to play devil's advocate with your point. Does there really need to be a policy that specifically tells players not to get arrested half a dozen times, or bite a police officer? Most people would lose their jobs for doing stuff like that for just getting arrested for it. Much less convicted.

Re: Pacman suspendened for entire 2007 season!

I think the worst defense for Pacman that I've heard so far actually came from Michael Smith on ESPN, and I usually agree with him.
He said something along the lines of, "if you suspend Jones for the whole season he's more likely to get into even more trouble because he'll have so much free time on his hands."
That could be the most ass-backwards thinking I've ever heard.

i am 100% about this!!!! i freakn love the NFL. MLB needs to take notes. And to comment on what that bama deion said about not seeing a grown man shave? im assuming that means pacman didnt have a dad around, well in that regards niether did i, but i had the sence not to act like some punk and do whats right to MAKE myself a man. Excuses are excuses no matter how you slice it, its time for these guys to GROW UP

Yep, the league HAS to set an example! You break the rules you pay the price.

The union/pacman,henry will have there chance to appeal, and look like a bunch of clowns.

I'm not arguing the personal conduct code. my argument is that there have been a ton of football players in the past that have been arrested, and suffered little or no punishment. why now?

I know what you mean. It does sound subjective. However, I'm willing to bet that there is a definition of it in the CBA.

Where is my lawyer!!! How dare they ask a guy to act professional on his own time. It's not like kids watch football or look up to these guys or emulate them.

I guess now he will have to work for T.O. as a housekeeper or something so that he can learn how to behave badly while still receiving a check.

It is a FACT that he kept a Georgia arrest for ASSAULTING A POLICE officer a secret from the Titans. The Personal Conduct Policy explicitly states that players have to tell teams about any legal incidents.

I think because the NFL is starting to have an image problem and Goodell is making player resposibility one of his big time issues. I think the fact that they have been too lenient in the past shouldn't mean they can't be more diligent now. Maybe the fact that they have been so lenient in the past has led to this "uptick" in problems.

I say "uptick" because I tend to think that this is no more of a problem now than in the past but it is simply being reported more and now the league has image issues.

Now because:
-There are 3 ESPN channels, the NFL Network, and various other sports stations on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
-People spend the entire day on sports-related Internet sites (like myself)
-The current over-consumption of sports, that didn't really exist on this level in the past
-The NBA brawl
-The steroid scandal and the black-eye it has given all sports
-There is a new commissioner and he's putting his foot down before all hell breaks loose

good post grillz, and i agree. but with a union the initial suspension is always the toughest one to uphold, because all future suspensions will look at this as the ground breaker.

But, wasn't the union pushing for stiffer penalties for these kinds of violations recently? It's like when Carson Palmer came out and said how he hates that he has to be associated with guys like this. So while I think the union will have put up some kind of protest, I doubt it thinks or even really wants to change anything.

The bottom line in all of this: WVU is to blame!
