Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
I am seriously considering buying a PS3, Xbox 360, or wii. I have some birthday money and work money to blow on something. The problem is, i really don't feel like getting anything but i didn't get anything last year on my birthday either. Maybe i should save my money? I think i want to buy something for the sake of buying something.
The HD dvd vs. Blu-ray may actually have a huge effect on my decision and it looks like that race is done Pie charts indicate Blu-ray victory over HD DVD assured | Crave : The gadget blog |

That is true too. When do you think the price of movies will fall? The blu-ray players are just really expensive and i'll probably take the PS3 to school with me if i get it, unlike a blu ray player. My roommate might be bringing his 42 inch HDTV with him :D. He said that last year too but his parents said no. I doubt the PS3 will drop again anytime before the holidays so if i am to get one i should really get it the day the price drops to $500. |
Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
I think it might be a long time until the prices of the movies fall. They are not flying off the shelves according to the stuff I have been reading. I don't have a PS3, I have an X360 but that is purely due to my gaming preference and I have nothing against Sony's product.

Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
neither hd format has sold all that well except one or 2 titles here and there as I think the percentage of homes with an HD-tv is still less than 25% in the US, but I don't know the exact %. I have the HD-dvd attachment for my 360 and love it as most HD-dvds r still around $20 where I shop, but with the price drop for the PS3 coming sooner than expected, I've got some trade money saved up and might pick up one sooner than I had thought even though it needed to have atleast $150 cut off for it to start to catch up to the 360 and Wii.

Ok this year the Ps3 will be 30 frames per second on NCAA and Madden the Xbox 360 will be 60. Butthere have been reports of the Xbox's malfunctioning and all the features of the PS# blow out the regular 360 and it beats out the Elite as well. The Wii really doesnt even compete as far as I am concerned. |

BSB the thing to note is that 360's are fucking up. I think Microsoft is recalling a ton of them because they mess up. Almost 50 percent I think. |

I think that impacts old 360's more though. Plus they just extended the warranty to 3 years. |
Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
and it's actually around 30%, but as dj said they just extended their warranty's to an unprecedented 3 years (and possibly too late to make a bunch of consumers happy.) I honestly don't know what someone's smoking who has both that at this point would recommend the PS3 with it's whoping 40 some titles compared to the 360's 140 some titles. Like I've stated before I'm planning on getting a PS3 as well a bit after the price drop cuz they will finally have some worthwhile titles like Lair, Heavenly Sword, and Uncharted and not just a bunch of delayed ports of 360 titles. As someone who sells this stuff on a daily basis and sees and hears a bunch of the behind the scenes stuff, right now your money in all honesty is going to get you the most bang for your buck by going towards a 360 or waiting til next year when another PS3 price drop occurs and even more worthwhile titles are out. The PS3 is also going to suffer a little longer from 3rd party developers being frustrated by the difficulty developing titles for the PS3, and that will result in what's happening with Madden, NCAA, and 2K8 having scaled back ports of their 360 counterparts. The Wii is cool but it is suffering from the same thing the PS3 is with big exclusive titles. When the sweet as hell looking Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy come out, snatch one up if you can find one. This would be the exact same thing I would be telling to someone who was a close personal friend, as I've tried in the past to help some friends or really good customers make up their minds and ALL of them have regretted going the PS3 route up to this point. No matter what choice you make, you'll have fun, but in my honest opinion, the best value right now is the 360. In the end it's your money so enjoy it haha.

because the PS3 will get the game titles. |
Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
I think if you are really into Japanese games like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear than it might make sense to consider the ps3, but that's the only reason I can think of. XBOX seems better for pretty much everything else, from online play to title selection.
Skinsfan, what's up with NCAA and Madden being scaled back? I hadn't heard about that? |

I use my PS3 for sports games, 360 for shooter games and shit like that, and the Wii for family games like Mario Party and the new Super Smash brothers when it comes out.

My younger bro had a 20GB one. Now he bought a 60GB one but If he wants to sell you the other one I might be able to get it for you for like 250 dollars. |

Phuc No! If and when I want one bad enough I will break down and buy it. I just cant see paying that kind of money for a video game console unless I can get a special Japanese massage to go with it anytime I turn it on. |

I used to be like that until I just started caring about the games and not the game system. I even thought I would be trading in my 360 when the PS3 came out, but I enjoy my 360 way too much. I mean if I had never given the old xbox a chance, I'd never have played Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Halo, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, and Crimson Skies from xbox and Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, Mario Strikers, and Wind Waker from gamecube. each next gen system has a strength in certain areas, but the days of sony getting all the exclusives cuz they are sony are obviously already gone with the like of GTA, Devil May Cry, Virtua Fighter, Ace Combat, Katamari, Resident Evil, Assasin's Creed and others going multi platform or even exclusively now to Xbox. Even golden boy of Sony David Jaffe, the creator of God of War and Twisted Metal, is creating his own studio and has already talked about doing multiplatform titles. I mean even Square Enix is finally making titles for xbox now. This generation's "battle" between Sony and Microsoft is going to boil down to who pony's up the most money for the big 3rd party titles and in a betting war, Microsoft's pockets are way too deep. Too many developers are taking into account production costs, the user base, and the online setup to not atleast think about going multiplatform. |
Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
See I dont play all of those. Just halo off that list.
|
Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
I think the 3 break down as such:
Current/Near Future Next-Gen games= 360 is the leader by almost a 3-1 margin to both the PS3 and the Wii. Backwards Compatibility= easily the PS3 with thousands of games to choose from, but also a nod for the Wii with all of the GC games working. this is one area that really really hurts the 360 in some people's eyes. Graphics= right now it's 360 with a higher detail in textures, better anti-aliasing(sp?), and a full extra year's hands-on from the developers, but in about a year or 2 the developers will catch up to the horsepower and complexity of the PS3 and it'll be very nice. Fun Factor= hands down the Wii because each game feels a little different because of the interactive controls. Online= this for me is the huge deciding factor because before getting my 360 I had never played anything online and it's just a completely huge aspect of gaming that I'd been missing out on in my eyes. Xbox live, though it has fees, is much better set up with a lot less lag issues and more importantly a whole lot less cheating unlike the hugely cheap socom online. and the wii's online right now is pretty much non-existent Media options= this is a tie for me because Blu-Ray is phenomal if you have a nice tv, but so is the option to have music I've ripped onto my 360 harddrive to play in the background of the game and not lose any of the sound effects or voice overs from the characters in said game which has been around since the original xbox so I don't know why it's still not there for the PS3. each system has its strengths and weaknesses, so it just comes down to figuring out which +/- mean more to you BSB. |
Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
I'm really impressed with XBOX Live. I used to think why would I want to pay for something I can get for free with Sony, but it's definitely worth it and then some. If you like online gaming, Live is the only way to go right now.
You're right about socom and the cheating. I love the game but the cheating is so out of control it totally ruins it. |

By the way, Sony just announced a price cut.

Re: Sony kills 20GB Playstation 3
Word on the street is that this week at E3, Xbox guru Peter Moore will announce that Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming to the Xbox 360. This would be HUGE and could hurt Sony badly. With GTA IV already slated for October release and then potentially MGS4, PS3 will not have many exclusives that excite me at all (I don't play FFXXXX or whatever number they might be on now).
Things should really heat up in the console market in the next couple of months for the holiday push. |
