They said that Snyder said that its important for them to find the best pick at the number 6 spot. Not sure what the issue is.

A lot of people seem to think so. WE should not go this route, because we mortgage the future year in and year out.

However, for a team that needs WRs, this might be the only way to get him.

We don't.

I think there are other teams who do, and trading your first pick this year AND next year is going to be the only way unless you are wanting to trade a REALLY quality player AND your number one.

We are a team that needs d-lineman. Bradon Lloyd is gonne have a rebound year, we have plenty of weapons in the passing game (Moss, Lloyd, Radle-el, Cooley, Betts).

this is probably just another smoke screen so teams dont what they are going to do at #6 so teams below them will be ready to give up more if they want to trade up. i know i cant beleive it either. does our front office have the smarts to do this force another team to more for a player?

ok got you i thought you meant we needed recievers but saturday needs to hirry up and gethere and if we do trade springs like the article says our starters will be smoot and rogers and i was just starting to feel better about our corners

It won't help US any because he won't be available when it's time for our pick. Unless they are trying to trade down to draft him and then trade HIM to the highest bidder, which would be ridiculous.

The only interesting tidbit is that we are (supposedly) shopping Springs again. I have been convinced that Springs is going to be gone for some time, but do people feel comfortable with Smoot and Rogers starting at corner with Macklin in reserve?

Maybe it's implied, but the article didn't say that we'd be trading this year's first round pick. Maybe it's Springs and next year's first round pick.

I like this move and if we can only manage to give up a first round pick next year to get a top pro-bowl caliber wide reciever, who is a big physicaql guy I say do it. This guy could be the next Keyshawn or TO WITHOUT THE ATTITUDE. Calvin is a good guy with a great head on hhis shoulders. We can fix the rest of the team with next years Draft after round one. I'm sorry guys but I don't share your opinion. I like it. Do it. Bring in a potential HOF. We mortgaged the future to get Jason and he will work out. SO let's get him a big Wide out and dump Lloyd. HAIL!!!

I've got a bad feeling that the Skins are about to blow this draft and their future. The defensive line has been a problem since Snyder has been the owner. I don't care if the Skins move up in the draft, move down or even stay put, but they better draft a defensive lineman. I would prefer Amobi Okoye, but with all these horrible rumors, any of the top five defensive lineman would be ok with me. If they pick up a player in a position they don't need, I'll be sick.

I'm not getting carried away by talk of CJ, but I know that JLC would not report that about Springs if he didn't have a source confirm it.

I hate to say it,but Springs is likely gone, think about it:
1) Smoot said he wouldn't be "anybody's bench warmer" in Minn.
2) Macklin agreed to sign for less than he could've elsewhere, but still only has a 1 yr. deal.

This says to me that our corners will be Rogers, Smoot & Macklin in that order.

Are you serious? Do you think Detroit or Oakland would trade one of the top two picks in the draft for an old, injured Shawn Springs and a 2008 draft pick?!?!?! It would cost this years first, next years first, and Shawn Springs AT THE VERY LEAST to move up. Springs is more valuable to the Redskins than he is to any other team in the league at this point. I doubt if anyone would give more than the equivalent of a 3rd rounder (and that is really on the high end) for him, though I think he is obviously more valuable than that (when healthy) to the Skins ... lets get out of fandom people, reality will set in on Saturday thankfully.

I think Detroit would consider it, not Oakland. Oakland's D is actually pretty nasty.

You think Detroit would trade completely out of the first round for Shawn Springs and a 2008 first round pick? That is what at least two people on here have implied. You must mean they would consider the #6 pick, a 2008 first rounder, and Springs. I think Tampa could pony up more than that, though, as I believe they have multiple 2nd round picks.

All I know is we have 3 WRs 27 years old or younger, none of whom have been on the team longer than 2 years, ALL of whom got signing bonuses of at least $10M. And NOW we're gonna trade next year's 1st rd pick to move up and get ANOTHER WR?? WTF is right. The only way I like this is if we somehow move Lloyd for an additional draft pick, but I couldn't see us getting anything more than a 4th or 5th rounder for him, and no one wants his contract. More smoke and mirrors.

this is a great analogy. and isn't that article from FANTASY sports? the skins have done a great job this off season letting everyone know that they are interested in everyone. no one, other then the skins brass, knows who they are going to take

but the article isn't from fantasy sports - its a copy of a wash post article by Jason LaConfora who does a really good job of getting info. from Redskins park.

I do agree that it could be smoke & mirrors, but the team may in fact be offering Springs. That's the real "news" in the story to me.

Did ANYONE actually watch yesterday when the talked about the draft? It sure seems like they are most likely staying at 6 and don't want to give away any picks next year. The said they are going to be sitting there at 6 and seeing if anyone calls. Listening to rumors this week really means nothing, I'm sure Gibbs has told his team not to listen to anything, any player is always mentioned with the redskins. They say we like a player and all of sudden every news source says we are going to trade the farm for that player. I can't wait till this is over and everyone is just like wow the Skins actually traded down or drafted 6th and Springs is still here. Gibbs is not dumb he is not going to give away everything for one player, the Duckett deal was bad but they were very worried about the backfield at that point.

I agree.....And statements coming from Snyder, Gibbs, and Cerrato leaves one with the impression that their intention is to draft the best player available regardless of position. In the Redskins situation, this to me does not make much sense unless it's their desire to see a repeat performance of last year. They pointed to the additions of Fletcher, and Smoot, but those two players are not enough to make the 31st ranked defense appreciatively better.

My point is that JLC would not report a "rumor" that we offered Springs. Here's the quote:
"the team has shopped cornerback Shawn Springs to Detroit, which has the second overall pick, again in recent weeks"

JLC would only print that if he had a confirmed source from the skins or detroit. so if its a rumor, its being started by one of the teams. We went through this before w/the briggs deal. Gibbs said it was a rumor but then both teams confirmed a deal had been offered.

Yes, Gibbs & co. want to keep everybody guessing but if the Lions were willing to take Springs (& some cap relief as we wanted Denver to) & swap #1 picks, I don't think that was just smoke & mirrors.

This is the 2nd time springs has come up in trade talks.

Anyone that thinks that Smoot and Rogers are starting caliber corner backs and better than Springs is out of their mind. If someone argues that Ill wonder if they have ever watched football. Smoot was an awesome pickup, so was Macklin, but as a 3rd and 4th corner. We need insurance if Spings and Rogers get hurt again. Macklin has as good of a chance as starting as Rogers does if he doestn step it up.

I agree, would hate to see Springs go, but it cetainly looks like they are trying to move him. NOt to mention, he was ok w/going to denver, so it may be a mutual decision.

In that case, Denver wouldn't pick up any cap relief & that's what killed the deal as I recall. I think if they get a team to take some of the cap hit, he'll be gone.

Well thats the fact we have to come to terms with. This Franchise has been mishandled since Snyder took over. Our draft status hasnt been good in years. Bad business has landed us here.

What is really going on is simply trying to ride the storm. We have to make due with what is. Smoot Rogers Macklin are as good as we are going to get. Springs is not returning to his old form he is formed old. Help is not on the way. Our draft is limited till next year, so we cant look for insurance-thats the price we pay for being an over budget hype buying/trading team. What we have to prove is that a team can sustain itself with poor front office leadership. Their at it again with this article. We simply have to follow the lead that they show and simply roll the dice w/o a backup plan. We are the Redskins- What can possibly happen to embarrass us that hasn't for the past 8 years????? What are we gonna hire Spurrier, Jeff George, Shane Matthews and 5 pages of other screw ups???!! (Same game different names) Its time we accept our problems for one season and see where it takes us. I think the answer truly is building through the draft. They know it but they rather use the draft as bargaining tools.

We will come out on top or face another season of being a Skins fans. I've been dragged through the gutter too much to feel shocked about shame.
