Landry or Okoye

Redskins Still Debating No. 6 Pick - washingtonpost.com

Hopefully this article is saying we are focused on these two players or trading down. As you know i want Landry but i would be happy with either player but no one else (unless CJ falls to 6th).

First: A strong secondary enables you to blitz more, Landry can Blitz also.
Second: A strong line makes the secondary better, Okoye will definelty help.

That is why no matter who we draft out of these two will help out significantly.

The debate should be are we more conformtable with Prileou (sp) and Stoutmire or Griffin, Golston, and Montgomery.

Landry or Okoye are both studs. I think we need Okoye more but Landry would not make me upset at all.

We can't loose in this situation. If Landry and Okoye are on the board at # 6, Atlanta could swap our picks with their 8th. They are very interested in Landry. We could pick up a second rounder and still nail Okoye.

Could come out of this really nice!

You think we could fall two spots and still get Okoye? That's wishful thinking if you ask me.

I still think Minnesota would jump all over him if Okoye is there. There's no doubt in my mind that if we trade down two spots or more, we'll lose out on BOTH Okoye and Landry. Then we'll have to select from the second-tier guys like Carriker, Jarvis Moss, or Jamal Anderson.

It could happen! Vikes need Offense. Petersen could be there at 7 for them.

Thank God. Then we get to have the conversations about when do we think that ________________ will be starting? What will be his stats this year?

There are still people who want to talk about the draft that's in two days. Start a new thread about something you like to talk about. No worries!

Re: Landry or Okoye

I dont really watch college football, so I have never witnessed Landry play, but from what I hear, he is more of a 8th man in the box type of safety, and is not the best in coverage. I dont think we really need 2 hard hitting safeties (ie Taylor and Arch). I think that DT is more important for us now. Also, Griffin might be cut within a couple years or so while Taylor will probably not be, so to have that stud at DT is important down the road. Id take Okoye.

Generally speaking a good Dline makes the secondary look amazing, not the other way around.

I think they should be more comfortable with the D Tackles they have than the Strong Safety. PP is a good back up but starter, i don't know. Landry would be the best fit for us. Get a DT next year in free agency or the draft. If Landry is compared to Ed Reed and he is there at 6, why not trade down or draft him. Its really the only options they have.

Although a good dline makes the secondary better, a good secondary enables you to blitz and makes the defensive line look better, it goes both ways. Remember when we weren't afraid to use Man to Man? How good did the SAME Dline look then?

100% agree.

As demk25 points out, we need a COVER safety. This is why a lot of think Springs should make that switch. I think he'd excel there.

Picking Landry is (like South Park said about John Smith) dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

I dont think you realize how hard it is to guard a receiver for more than 5-7 seconds. Defenses usually dont blitz secondary much, only a few plays a game. Most of the time it is the Dline that causes turnovers, because they pressure the QB to throw quick. This is commonly accepted NFL fact.

This league is a turnovers league, teams that make the playoffs always are winning the turnovers battle.

This is what the top 10 could shape up as (if I compile all the rumors I've heard, assign each a weighted average, and blah blah blah)

1. Raiders-JaMarcus Russell
2. Falcons (from Lions)-Calvin Johnson (*the Niners could move up to #2 as well)
3. Browns-Brady Quinn
4. Bucs-Gaines Adams
5. Cardinals-Joe Thomas
6. Texans (from Redskins)-Adrian Peterson
7. Vikings-Laron Landry
8. Lions (from Falcons)-Leon Hall
9. Dolphins-Levi Brown
10.Redskins-Amobi Okoye

Peterson has been my most anticipated pick for the past 3 years. The Texans need him desperately but CLEV. really needs a RB b/c in their division Baltimore has got the answer to shut down J.Lewis. If the Falcons move up it wont be for C.Johnson, although wow that would be DANGEROUS for the other 31 teams w/ Vick and that offense OMFG. I dont think they can pull it off.

But damnit I hate seeing Adams go to Det. or TB I want him in DC, but b/c of bad business in the Skins front office we cant work this draft w/o picks. Its a toss up if we can get a franchise DE in Adams or make a choice that has never been made under Snyder- to be patient, take what is available in low 1st round, and possible 3rd filling defensive needs to be competitive and then look to next year look for a franchise DE, DT and be set for the future.

It really is bad business if the world knows the owner is going to spend $ regardless always leaping before looking. Check the resume, and if you cry and stay a Skins fan than you begin to feel my pain.

Where did you get this? Landry never surrendered a TD his entire college career. They even lined him up in the slot to cover WR's man to man.

L.Landry 4.35 40 I'm sure he can cover anywhere. Even his less talented brother who was the Ravens rookie starting Safety yielded at most 2 td's all season. Football is in this families blood and the best has yet to be drafted.

Its a shame we bet this years draft on last years no shows(Rocky,Lloyd) b/c this year is evident we have franchise players in Adams, Landry, and maybe Okoye who has accomplished a lot in his young age. No teams care about Springs-he is old news(perfect team to be in right..)so we can't trade him. I think it is time however Springs moves to safety cuz Taylor needs a vet to tell him to stop biting and taking horrible angles. Also, lets see if Jerry Ball really is doing his job in coaching.
