Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
Did I miss the thread on this one? I'm sure it's been talked about how the Dolphins blew this one.
I almost spilled my beer when I heard the pick though. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
There's news today that he might not even be ready for the start of training camp. He's walking around in a boot right now.
Horrible reach by the Dolphins, I really don't get it. My buddy who is a big Dolphins fan was majorly bummed when they passed up Quinn. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
All the better for us on opening day!
|
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
...unless he turns out to be Devon Hester, the pick makes no sense.
|
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
Here are the pre- and post-Dolphin's selection text messages that my co-worker, a 'Fins fan, sent me on Saturday:
Pre-pick: Quinn might fall to Miami!!! Post-pick: Ted Ginn?!?! No football for me this year Today he said he wasn't all that pissed about not getting Quinn because he likes Beck but he's SO bitter that they didn't get some help for their aging defense. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
The local stations are BLASTING the pick. It's actually quite entertaining when the assualt is NOT directed to the Skins.
Ahhh........the sweet smell of good first round pick! |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
yeah seriously that was the "WTF" pick of the draft.
|
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
Dolphins needed another Wes Welker and Ginn matches that position.. But a completely wasted 1st rd pick tho..
|
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
I made fun of my friend who is a huge Fins fan when they picked Ginn.. he was so happy when he saw Quinn dropped to them. Who selects a punt returner in the first round.
|
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
I can understand why they did it...because they had John Beck so highly rated.
I just, like everyone else on this board and elsewhere, think they are stupid for doing it. If they had taken a stud at another position like Okoye, and then Beck in the second, I would give them a pass. But this might very well end up being a wasted draft pick. Essentially, Ginn's potential is that he replaces Wes Welker seamlessly. A man who they got a second round pick for...yeah. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
Still, there at least 6 players they could have taken before Ginn.
That being said, what a slap in the face for Quinn. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
They will regret this pick no matter what.
Let's say he is like Hester. Even then, why not take a chance for a QB that will lead your team to SBs? A returner alone cannot do that. I mean he could be a decent receiver too, but 9th pick? There were a million other good defensive players out there they should have gotten. |

Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
People can bash this all they want but I liked this pick. All Ginn did was SCORE TOUCHDOWNS. Remember, he got hurt AFTER HE SCORED A TD. His production ON THE FIELD is what matters. Not that he couldn't go to the silly ass combine and run wind sprints in shorts. Nobody caught this guy when he was in pads. He is a double threat on teams and at WR. People forget that special teams can WIN GAMES. This guy is simply a game breaker. Who gives a damn if he is in a boot??? It's not like he's going to be walking around in it forever. He'll be ready be training camp.
And why is everyone ready to just give up on Culpepper? It makes no sense to me. This guy had one of the best seasons in the history of the NFL a few years ago. I wouldn't be so sure to close the book on this guy quite yet. He needs to keep healing and get some weapons around him and he'll be fine. Plus they could bring in Trent Green. Miami thinks they have a chance to win now. If they draft Quinn they would be wasting a year or two. By that time the defense will have to be rebuilt. People can say all they want but why did Quinn drop? Because in the big games he played like shit. Against LSU he looked terrible. NFL teams got scared by that. It's not fair cause Brady Quinn was a great college QB. But so was Troy Smith and looked what happened to him? The guy from Boise State didn't even get drafted and he was a STUD. |

I'm not saying he won't, or couldn't but they already have a guy who has proven himself. Plus if they get Green then they will have a guy with proven NFL experience. The pick made sense for Cleveland. IMO it didn't for Miami. |

Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
He has his college experience. What's another year or two in the terms of a teenager?
|
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
I'll tell you this already. He is more than likely LIGHT YEARS ahead of Sean Taylor in terms of maturity.

No question about that. |

They have no proven, healthy qb. They took a "potential" game breaker, against a position that handles the ball on every play. |

Who cares if he's injured right now? Well, he's going to miss out on mini-camps and possibly the start of training camp, that's certainly not going to help his early development and chemistry with the offense. Regarding Culpepper he's coming off some serious knee issues which he had two surgeries on. I'd say that's enough cause for concern. The Dolphins must be concerned otherwise why are they interested in Green? |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
my take on Ginn. he could either be the second coming of Santana Moss( which is a good thing) or the second coming of Freddie Mitchell( not so good) he could have been picked up probably in round 2

I think drafting for need is not the way to go when you are in the top ten. Plus we are not at the Miami training complex everyday. The coaches see Culpepper everyday so they must have some type of confidence that he could be ready by Sept. Or they are waiting for Trent Green to get cut. Either way Miami didn't think Quinn was a top 10 player. Miami thought that Ginn was a better player and will be a better player. Don't get me wrong. Quinn could be a really good qb. But I don't understand how anyone can argue drafting Ginn I watched ALOT of OSU games the past two years. And Ginn was truly a great player. Both on teams and at WR. Again, all the guy did was get in the endzone against top college players. Miami looked at Ginn and I bet they thought of Devin Hester. W/out Hester does Chi. make it to the SB? You know who drafted for need? Phil by reaching for Kolb. He was a real nice college player but they could have drafted MUCH better players than Kevin Kolb. |

As for Quinn, like I said Miami thinks they can win now. So bringing in a rookie qb is probably not the way to go for them. What if Daunte gets healthy and gets back to his old form? Or what if Green comes in and plays like the pro bowler he has been in the past? Then you have Quinn sitting on the bench not contributing. And I'm sure that is what Miami was probably thinking. How can anyone argue that this guy was not productive and not worthy of being a top 10 pick? He caught so many deep balls I lost count. Plus he is great on teams. I bet Miami is looking at Ginn as being a 3rd down wr this year and making an impact on teams. I doubt they are counting on him coming in and being the #2 wr right away. |

Now if he cracks the starting lineup, then that's another story. |

Kiper had him listed as the 16th overall prospect and was shocked he was taken in the top 10. I don't think many draft analysts expected him to be taken that high. I hope they have bigger plans for him than just a #3 WR. You don't use the #9 pick on a special teams/slot WR. As for your thoughts on Culpepper and Green, those are two big if's right now. If they are so focused on winning now as you say, why did they take Beck in the 2nd round? |

That's a pretty big if, my friend. Again, first round picks are almost always considered to be starters or get significant playing time right out of the gate. Too many variables surrounding Ginn, in my opinion. |

Again, people seem to forget all about this when judging guys. |

Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
Like I said there were plenty of experts along with Kiper that were shocked that he went as high as he did.
The Dolphins gambled, hopefully for them it will work out otherwise that move will haunt them for a really long time, especially if Quinn becomes a star. |

Even with that in my mind, most experts still had him somewhere between 15-20. And all of this talk of Trent Green. He's approaching the golden years for a QB so he can't be a long term solution. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
I'm not pissed at the Dolphins. They didn't want to pick Ron Powlu............I mean Brady Quinn. Cleveland will find out this guy is OVERRATED! Hate it for Romeo Crennel though.

Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
I doubt he will miss anytime in training camp. We are talking about end of July.
He has a lizfranc sprain which are notorious for being difficult to treat and commonly recurring. Treated improperly or incompletely and they lead to fractures in the mid foot which can end up being CAREER THREATENING. Not to say he is anywhere near that point but if the injury doesn't heal in the stated time it would not be even remotely a surprise and if it doesn't heal properly and they get him out there he could end up with permanent damage. Generally fast return guys are somewhat diminished in value when their feet slow them down. Otherwise he is good to go. ;) On another note, at least they are good to go at QB. No injuries worries there at all. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
I've recently come to the conclusion that drafting WR's is a crap shoot. If I was a GM I only would have drafted Calvin Johnson or one of the 1st round Wideouts that fell through to the early second round. 8 of the last 13 top 10 WR have been labled bust, Karl Malone don't like them odds.
Plus whats with all these GM's taking no-name WR's in the 3rd round, the great thing about the 3rd round is you can find pro-bowlers and starters at less heralded positions like guard, linebacker, tight end, or center. The key is value, last time I checked TO and Moss have no Super Bowl rings, Wideout has to be the most overated position in the entire league. |
Re: Tedd Ginn, Jr.?
If Ginn is a bust , I guess that Hall < Cb/Mich> and Ross Cb/Ttexas ,, now a NYG> must be bust's considering he toasted both for td's . I would trade Loyd for Ginn in a second .
