SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Money on the table, not for long. Who are we gonna sign?

Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Isn't Keyshawn Johnson available??? I'm sure he's looking for a big contract to sign, then underperform, then get cut but continue to be paid for the next 6 years.
|
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Alex Brown, Ogun, or Kris Jenkins could soon be Redskins. While I think our "need" for Dlinement is a bit blown out of proportion I bet we go after a DT or DE.
|
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Isn't Laundry going to take up some of that?
|
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
The Rookies will take up somewhere around $3.2m-$3.5m.
It does not leave much left for anything else. |

So you think JLC is off base with the Schobel stuff? How much would it take to get him? A 2nd? A 3rd would be stealing him, but I don't know that I'd want to give up a 1st for a 30 year old DE, even if he is a player. |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
I don't think the skins give up more than a 3rd for anyone. I hope the most we offer is a 4th for anyone.
the tj duckett trade
Really i thought that was this years 4th! Damn! |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
We don't sign anyone. Keep what we have and play better.

what a novel idea. if the players were good enough, this works. we need some defensive linemen in the worst way |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
the tj duckett trade
Really? I know that was a weird trade (where we would have ended up flipping first round picks if the Skins had finished with a good record and picking the 20's and other scenarios to make it all even out to the points equal to a high third round pick), but we had a high third round pick, isn't that all the Broncos get? |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
i thought we had all our picks for next year?! What have i missed?
The Denver Broncos scooped our 3rd round pick in the forgettable TJ Duckett trade, and a mid rounder in 08 to Denver for the Dead Duck trade last August. |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Am I going to have to "sticky" this again?

Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
we do have a full draft
|
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Yeah, I mean if most of that cap space is going to go to our picks, who can we really sign that would be a quality performer? The draft basically said wait til next year to get any new D linemen, so we just have to hope that our D line stays healthy and let the younger guys get a lot more playing time.
|
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Thanks for the info, must have missed that one!
And again, still annoyed we dont have that pick back, Damn! Oh and it seems 'this deal keeps getting worse all the time' |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Sign. Cooley.

This is a MUST DO! |

HA HA HA HA HA Good one! |

I agree they should extend him but I wouldn't say that is a higher priority than getting Schobel or Burgess. |
Sign. Cooley.
while i like Cooley, no way i would break the bank for him. decent tight ends are a dime a dozen |

Oh plz, not even a decent TE is a dime a dozen. He's not decent, he's top 5 in the league, you pay him accordingly! I hope you see the struggle's we've had just to find a "decent" backup for Cooley? Get Real! |

Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Todd Heap
Jason Whitten Kyle Brady Jeremy Shockey Alge Crumpler Antonio Gates Dallas Clark L.J. Smith Vernon Davis exactly where do you think Cooley fits in this order? i think Cooley is a fine tight end, but i also think he can be replaced |

grim, i see we are thinking alot alike. we NEED someone who can get after the quarterback |

I don't think it is even close comparing a pass catching tight end to a pass rusher. Hell, run more 3 wide receiver plays or split Portis out. If you traded Cooley for a guy who gave us 12+ sacks next year we would forget that Cooley was ever here. |

Of course he can be replaced....that's only common sense, anyone can. So you pay someone else big bucks to come in and do the job of someone who is very productive? That makes ZERO sense to me. And forget who Cooley is, NOT HARDLEY, look around the stadium look how many 47 jerseys you see if you go to any games. He will get the paycheck that he deserves, hopefully from us. If any team looking for a top tier TE in the entire league and CC was available, they would jump all over CC. |

Jason Witten Kyle Brady Jeremy Shockey Alge Crumpler Antonio Gates Dallas Clark L.J. Smith Vernon Davis exactly where do you think Cooley fits in this order? i think Cooley is a fine tight end, but i also think he can be replaced
Vernon Davis and L.J. Smith are dime a dozen players. They have skills that could be easily replaced by any TE, or in VD's case, any receiver. Dallas Clark, Jeremey Shockey and Antonio Gates can't block. So I'd put Cooley above all them right off the bat. So that leaves Crumpler, Heap, Brady, and Witten on your list. Witten is a solid route runner, Brady is a great blocker, and Crumpler, and Heap are both. Both Crumpler and Brady are better blockers than Cooley. But no one, and I mean no one, is as sure handed or makes plays after the catch like Cooley does. Cooley is the best TE in the passing game in the league, bar none. Once you factor in blocking, Crumpler might be a better TE, and so might Todd Heap, but thats the company he's in. And if Cooley continues to improve his blocking, he will be the leagues best TE without question. Because he does stuff in the passing game that absolutely no other TE can do. |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
If you traded Cooley for a guy who gave us 12+ sacks next year we would forget that Cooley was ever here.
I'd rather have both.
We have a guy who can get 12+ sacks next year in Carter. So if that's all you are looking for in a DE we have you covered. I mean, sure, he's going to be highway 99 vs. the run, but if its all about sacks...we're fine. |

He came on strong at the latter part of the season, I think this year he will have a statement season. Pretty clear the staff that knows didn't draft or sign a FA to this point a DT/DE as we did last season for a reason? Not that we won't make a depth move, I would not rule that out. If our team has learned anything.....COOLEY will be here for a long time! |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
Cooley isn't going anywhere. And i hope he wants to be a redskin because he makes the games exciting.

Dude, haven't you read ST vs Landry forum?? Someone basically explained GW's style, blitzing.. We don't need all d-line to rush, just need some to push o-line away so safety or lb could get through with a hole.. |

Dude, not only he is in top 5, he is true 'Skins.. You wouldn't find that kind of character at anywhere.. |
Re: SKINS 5.1 million under cap.
not sure if its been said yet, but cooley is the only receiver to have already demonstrated chemistry with campbell. THIS IS CRUCIAL. i hope they are BOTH here winning years from now.

thats all fine and dandy when it comes to the passing game, but what about the run? then what happens? hopefully not more of the same from last season. because that was brutal to watch, dude |

character is good, but we have to get us somebody in here that can play. as i said before, i think Cooley is a fine tight end. but not a break the bank tight end, dude |
