What to do with Springs??
I think everyone has there own opinion on how we should handle this whether its trading him, have him switch positions, or keep him
|
Re: What to do with springs??
Why trade him? It's not like Carlos Rogers has proved himself... Springs and Smoot will be the starters at the beginning of the season.
|
Re: What to do with springs??
Also, why move his position now? We seem like we're going to be set at safety and he's still, arguably, our best cornerback when he's healthy.
|
Re: What to do with springs??
If he should switch positions, I hope he considers DT or DE because we could use some help there and he is a leader.
|
Re: What to do with Springs??
If healthy, I hope we keep him. If healthy he is our #1 Corner, leave him at CB.
|
Re: What to do with Springs??
I think in the end we'll keep him unless someone wants him in a trade involving a DE.

Agreed. And if we keep him, he starts at CB. |

and has 12 interceptions and goes to the probowl....or at least is better than Rogers. |
Re: What to do with Springs??
I sure hope we keep him. My concern is that the team has pissed him off to the point that he's going to push a trade, a la champ & coles. He's under contract, even if its a big cap #, that's still in our favor.
I think he's handled it well publicly, but he can't be too happy about the pay cut request. |

zing! keep him at CB. |
Re: What to do with Springs??
Despite the signing of Smoot and Macklin, I'm afraid to think about our CB situation without Springs in the lineup. Remember how out of sorts we were during the season when he was injured? He makes the difference in many things we can do as a defense, I hope he stays here, and stays healthy.
|
Re: What to do with Springs??
Keep him. He is still the team's best cover corner. Having Springs, Smoot and Rogers gives Williams the flexibility to be more aggressive in his play calling.

Handling Springs is a no brainer. We are now extremely strong at safety so a position switch would be wierd. We play Springs at Corner until he gets hurt and then move in Smoot. |

while I agree w/your persepctive about keeping Springs in the starting lineup at cb, I would hardly say it's a "no-brainer" for the front office. They may have several good reasons why they have shopped him to other teams, or they may have pissed him off beyond repair by asking him to take a pay cut. I hope the relationship isn't a problem if he's to stay. |

I was thinking Springs could fill in at tight end in goal-line situations. We've needed help there for years. |
Re: What to do with Springs??
If Todd Wade doesn't work out at Guard we should try him there.
|
Re: What to do with Springs??
We're struggling at kicker..
|
Re: What to do with Springs??
Unless we get an overwhelming offer for him we have to keep him. He is our best CB. I would love to know why we want to get rid of him so much and why he wants out so much. I never perceived any issues before all this talk started after last season.
|
Re: What to do with Springs??
gotta keep him unless we get a cant miss deal for him
|
Re: What to do with Springs??
With Springs at CB. It makes the skins Nickel the best in the league.
CB-Springs CB-Rogers/Smoot Nickel CB- Rogers/Smoot FS-THE BEAST- Taylor SS-Prioleau/Landry/Omar St./Fox |
Re: What to do with Springs??
Unless he is going to pout and moan and become a nuisance, we need to keep him. Both Rogers and Smoot are #2 corners AT BEST. Springs, when healthy is what someone else here called a "force multiplier" which I thought was exactly right. He plays the position at a different level than anyone else we have.
In the Dallas game at FedEx last year, Springs was beaten on a corner route (I think it was) when Dallas was driving around the 15 yard line. There were less than ten seconds left, so Springs just grabbed his man. He was called for PI, but Dallas had to settle for a FG because of the time and Parcells was beside himself. The fact that he had gone for 2 earlier and missed probably soured his mood. His mood got really, really, sour about two hours later. The point is that Springs is the only player we have who would have had the presence of mind to do that. The others would have given up 6. Let's keep him. |

If Springs switch to DT or DE, he would need to add like 100 pounds first.. |

who knows, maybe he swings both ways.... |
Re: What to do with Springs??
Let me say something about Springs. I DONT LIKE HIM AND NEVER HAVE!!! Anytime this guy has a hangnail he sits out for 4 weeks, reason being is to extend his career to get his money. Hes good when he wants to be, hes all talk im tired of him. hes unreliable and to me USELESS. So what if we made him angry about asking the great shawn springs to take a pay cut, everyone may be on smoot saying hes not as good as springs, but at least he plays with heart unlike this clown. Am i wrong for thinking this way?

Rogers and Smoot form the best nickel package in the league? You understand Smoot was demoted from the starting position with the Vikings, right? You have been actually watching Rogers play over the past two years, right? |

Are you kiddin? He's the youngest corner we have. Yea I know he didn't have a good year last year.....WHO DID? He from what I understand has been workin his tail off, I think we will see a new and much IMPROVED CR! Keep the youth, have enough old timers! |

Hess, we were in the process of a bet last year on Rogers performance. Should he play 12+ games this year, I'll bet you some thirty-dollar Redskins item that he'll have six or more interceptions. What say you? |

I'm willing to give Carlos another season before I pass judgement on him. Malcomconnection, i sent you a PM, did you read it? |

Re: What to do with Springs??
I still maintain that Rogers' performance last year is WAY underestimated. He had a decent year. We can't judge his whole year based on the dropped INTs. They pissed me off too but in the end he played relatively well. He was not burned terribly often considering we had no pass rush. I suspect that had he caught half of the INTs he dropped no one would be so down on him. The dropped INTs just aren't enough to convince me he can't play. Yet.

Exactly. I would be very suprised if he turned in a similiar performance this year. In fact, I'd be suprised if any of the defensive guys turned in a similiar performance this year. |
