Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I'm so tired. Was at a conference, finished around 1, got back into the office and I can hardly keep my eyes open.... and you guys are boring today.

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I will have to say work is easier then school for the most part. At least when you you leave for the day you are pretty much done. Plus in school I worked and went to school.

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
School and work both have their stresses. School is pretty much stress free for 10 months out of the year, especially for the six months (SIX MONTHS) you have off for summer and winter breaks. But all the stress for the year gets packed into the month leading up to finals.
Work is stressful year round, though generally not as intense as exam stress. But I've been in meetings where I've had presentations due to the COO and CFO, and they've wanted answers on everything. That can feel like a final exam because those honchos aren't happy when they don't get an answer to a question. College kids have it made. Don't ever graduate. |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I agree work and school both have their own stresses. I think school stressed me out more though.
With work I can leave it all behind once I get home for the most part, with school you can't do that. When I graduated last year for months afterwards I couldn't get out of that school mode of thinking, I couldn't help but thinking constantly ok what paper do I have to write this weekend, or what test or presentation do I have coming up. |

A truer statement has never been made in human history. To everyone in college: This is it. It is all downhill from here. Oh sure there are many joys in life to come but not a one will rival the sheer unbridled lack of responsibility and the opportunity to screw around that college does. Enjoy it while you can and stop complaining about finals because they are a small price to pay for what can easily be described as the greatest time of your life the rest of the time. |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
From someone who has worked full time and gone to school full time, work takes the cake. Sure it may be repetitive, but there's something about not taking work home with you that fits me better. I'd rather know I can do whatever I want in the evening and weekends.

Exactly. I've worked full time while I went to school full time, there's no comparison, work is 10 times easier. I have never had a hugely demanding job, but I have never had to go home and spend 3 times as much as time on homework as I did in class. I can say that I would take work any day out of the week before college. |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
Yeah work is stressful, but atleast you make money.
|
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I will take school over this any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

obviously being young without commitments on a college campus is great. But finals times is beyond stressful. This kinda shit is what gets you hooked on coffee in the future and causes you to lose hair. Seriously the amount of stress this week is pretty insane. |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
yeah i luckily don't have a demanding exam schedule this semester> I have an exam on Saturday and I am doing all the reading tonight. I am probably going to go out and have some fun tomorrow also so i am going to get as much done tonight.

Of course we all have, and I sure the stress you have experienced is greater than what I am going through. But at the same time I am saying exams stress is a different kind, in that it is a very very high amount in a small pd of time, basically no sleep, and gets you started on the coffee/losing hair game...lol |

I understand the No sleep, and coffee drinking. I am far from losing my hair. |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I actually go the opposite route from the no sleep way. I do what I can, but make sure I get plenty of rest before each final. I've found my brain is shot without enough sleep and even cramming won't help. I do realize it's ironic that I'm writing this at 5:13 AM.

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
to me, stress = knowing you have to bring home a check to make your household work. sorry guys, i would take going back to school any day
|
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I'm definitely more stressed now than I ever was for my most difficult exams in college. Doesn't help that my wife is almost 5 months pregnant and I have a 60 mile one way commute, but you gotta work where the money is. And, I never took school seriously...could be something I regret, but I don't. I've got a piece of paper with my name on it that says I gots an edjumacation.
I'm with dmek. While the money is good, you don't have it long. And I'm finally to the point where I'm not living paycheck to paycheck, and it's still a pain in the ass. Mortgages suck. But to each their own... |

Yeah, see this is the whole reason why work is more stressful. If you're single living in an apartment, then work usually isn't all that stressful, because nobody's depending upon your paycheck other than you. But when you have a family to support and a mortgage payment to make, doing well at work matters a lot more. When you realize what it's going to cost to send your child to college, getting the next raise at work becomes very important. For those trying to work their way out of debt and/or struggling to make ends meet, it's even more important. In college, exams matter for your grades which impacts your college resume. So yeah, it's an intense amount of stress in a short time. But in the end, if you don't do well, you're only letting yourself down. There's much more stress involved in knowing that your children or spouse are depending on you. |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
One of the other things that suck about jobs - You have to actually be there.
School - not so much. Sure there are some classes that require attendance but I probably blew off at least a third of my undergrad class time. In law school, while much stricter, I still had more days of "Nope, not today" than I have ever had at work. Then there's the tolerance for hangovers. Partied too late the night before? School - it's okay, I got my hoodie and sunglasses. Work - I still have that damn conference at 10:00 and client interview at 2:00. |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
Regarding money, back in college I was dirt broke but I also had no bills.
Now it seems the more money you make, the more you spend. Sure I have enough to live comfortably and I have my share of toys and a house, but something about flying by the seat of your pants and not knowing where you next solid meal was going to come from... nah forget it I'm not going to even try to say it was fun because it definitely wasn't. LOL |
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
Matty, I don't ever see you looking for a solid meal ;)

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I drank my dinner plenty of times back in the day, not so much anymore though. :)

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I'll take work thank you very much. School was definitely more stressful for me. For me school consisted of constantly studying, working on a project the entire weekend, and exams. Work is stressful at times but for the most part it's fun and I get paid to do what I like doing.

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
Drank Coca Cola? Or is that used motor oil? It's black whatever it is...
|
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
Guinness. Straight Guinness.
|
Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I don't for shit over breaks. Winter break I only drank a couple times. This winter break I'll be getting a job at my internship i had in high school. 40 hour weeks though. Will be annoying.

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
I dunno guys, I think it's a toss-up. It's true that in college you can go to a lot of parties and meet a lot of women, but you're also constantly broke, tired of eating bad food, and generally talk about nothing of real importance in class. Work might be stressful, but at least you get paid for it and you're actually doing something in the real world.

Re: Exams? Wait until you get a real job..
It's all part of the natural progression of life. In Kindergarten, you miss sleeping all day in your crib. 3rd grade you miss finger painting in Kindergarten. 7th grade you miss the basic simplicity of learning multiplication tables in 3rd grade (or was that 2nd). In high school, you miss doing those dioramas in 7th grade and so on...
