Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
Even though some starters have been named (Rocky) we all know that things could change come August, and sometimes the best battles are within the team not against other teams. With that in mind which battle do you think will be the tightest competition:
Will it be the battle for the starting OLB alongside MW, the battle for starting safety opposite Taylor, the battle for #2 receiver, and so on? Vote or 12thMan will make not so subtle semi-uncomfortable passes at you throughout the board. |

Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
It's definitely that 2nd CB spot. Whoever emerges victorious in that battle is going to be counted on to hold up in coverage to allow the strong safety to flex down towards the line of scrimmage.
|
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I think Lemar can still play outside at a high level. To me the onus is on Rock to prove he can do the same. He's still something of an unknown quantity.

I still don't think there's a chance in hell that Rogers loses his spot. |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I'd say the strong safety spot is big in terms of impact to the team, but it seems that GW has already indicated that "based on what he's seen so far, it won't be long before Landry is starting."
So the heat seems to have been taken away from that one. |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
The LB showdown. Can Rocky get there?

Really? Why? |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I think the Lock vs. Rock battle could be interesting because if he loses it could mean the end of the Rock era in a Redskins uniform (some may say that era is long overdue for closure)
I tend to be more a fan of the make the roster vs. don't make the roster battles. |

Williams puts a premium on tackling and Rogers is a great tackler. His coverage skills still need work, but Smoot is not head and shoulders above Rogers at this point in his career. |

smoot played for williams before |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I voted other. We all know how much Gibbs loves Brunell and if JC is not ready Brunell could win his job back. Brunell holds the edge because of his time in Saunders system and time on the field with our WR's.

He's still a half assed tackler when compared to Rogers, and he wasn't exactly smothering people in Minnesota for the last two seasons. |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I voted for Lloyd vs. Randle El. Both of those guys need to bounce back big. Last year we were expecting big things from them. Especially Lloyd. I also want to see how much the chemistry has grown between him and Campbell.
As for Randle El, he did make some great plays, but we need him to be more of a consitent pass catcher. |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I voted Smoot v. Rogers, though I really like the Blalock v. Rock vote, though it's not necessarily for a roster spot. Last year we kept 4 rb's on the roster & could again this year w/Rock again being #4.
|
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I think the easy choice is LeMar v. Rocky.
I'm going with Wade vs. some training no name. I'm not sure he's a lock to start, there could be a diamond in the rough. We'll see. And yes, I will make not so subtle passes if you're not careful. |

He was pretty consistent, he's not a burner so he a lot of cb's can play him tight, but he made plays when they got him the ball. I thought JC started to go to him a lot more at the end of the year & it looked like they had good chemistry going. I look for that to continue. Loyd & the new LG will be the x factors on O. If those 2 spots can produce at even a little above avg. our O will be tough to stop. I just see ARE getting more time than Loyd. |

yes but right now i put smoot over rogers and not just in madden |

I'd put money on Gregg Williams NOT putting Smoot above Rogers. |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
once rogers gets burned he will be replaced, unless he shows drastic improvement in handling the williams Defensive schemes, smoot has already succeeded on this defense
|
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
Rogers will step up, he had no competition last year for his spot, plus there were other issues w/the D that had everybody playing poorly. Look for Rogers to start showing his skills again as he started to in 05.

Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
No Brunell vs. Collins votes...
I think that is riveting. Gibbs boy vs Al's boy. Sideline slinger vs KC mess. |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
Smoot vs Rogers the talent is high in that one and attitudes as well.
|
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I would hope that Coach wouldn't pull a Ramsey on JC. Brunell is finished. Even his "comeback" 2005 season ended up with him reverting to lousy 2004 form. If it is true JC has worked very hard in the offseason I can't see it being much of a contest between him and Brunell.
To me, the fiercest fight fo a starting job is Lemar and Rocky. Sure Rocky has been named the starter, but Lemar is still a quality LB and the vet starter. Naming Rocky the starter will light a fire under Marshall's butt(maybe that is what the hidden motive of the announcement was). |

yes that will be intresting |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
Wow! Post 30 and no one has mentioned Portis vs. Betts? One of these guys is going to become the goto guy.

He should be, but his attitude has been slipping. Stupid comments ever since last preseason and Saunders never liked him taking himself out of games. The way Betts played last year, Saunders could use him more to send Portis a message. |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
Regarding the second corner spot, I don't think it is that important who is the starter. The thing that Smoot gives them is the ability to move pieces around. Now Springs will be able to line up in the slot and blitz more. Rogers and Smoot can play both sides of the field. I just hope that the d-line takes some strides forward. If Carter plays like he did in the second half and Griff can stay healthy, they will be fine. I would like them to sign some huge run stuffer to stick in there on running downs. Did Grady Jackson get released? Sign him and Adams and the corners would barely be in bounds when they line up.

You can't score if your runningback fumbles the ball away. I saw the Giants game on In demand. The Redskins were completely dominating those blue biatches and Betts pissed it away. His early fumble changed the whole game. |

that would be stupid and what message would we be sending him: "hey portis you are good and all and lead us on that 2005 surge into the playoffs but we want fumble prone betts who isnt better, isnt faster, isnt stronger, isnt tougher, and not as explosive we will play him more." |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
I said other because i believe the best battle will be Jansen vs. Wade. First off I don't think wade can play left guard. He's way to big and doesn't have the quickness or leverage to get under DT. I think eventually Bugal will figure this out. I do believe however that he is better than Jansen at right tackle. Though I am a huge Jansen fan for his sevice throughout the years, his play has really dropped off the last two years. I believe that Wade is a better player, we know from reports that many of our dlinemen also believe this to be true. Don't see it happening though, Jansen is a team leader.

I agree. Best of all Ladell Betts knows how to hold his tongue. |

ok that is crazy but welcome to the board |
Re: Redskins_P presents Best Training Camp Battle
lol, thanks. I just like how Betts doesn't have to be the center of attention like Portis seems to do.
