Where would you go?
AFter I win the lottery, my ass will be on the beach permanantly. Haven't decided where though. St. Johns, St. Thomas, Grand Cayman Island, or Hawaii are the leading candidates.
This got me thinking (and I was going to respond in thread, but some people just can't play nice ;))... I'm a beach bum, and as much as people say I would get bored, I want nothing more in life than to retire now, and live on a beach for the rest of my life. Florida, Caribbean, Australia, South Pacific...doesn't matter. As long as I've got a chair to sit in and a surf to look upon, I'm happy. What about you guys? If you didn't have to work for any reason, where would you end up? |
Re: Where would you go?
Here's me deal. I definitely be a beach type but not a reclusive beach. I'd want to go somewhere close enough to all the creature comforts I want and far enough away that I'd never have to see anyone if I didn't want to. There are places in Fla that would work best probably. Gulf side. Find me a small little key and buy it. Put a ginormous house on it made to utilize every hurricane prep product/service known to man. Something only reachable by boat probably.
|
Re: Where would you go?
Sportsbar at the beach. I love small beach communities, and Ive gone to Ocracoke Island for the last 15 years. Id own a sportsbar either at Ocracoke or somewhere else on the Outterbanks. Dream on.
|
Re: Where would you go?
I'll have me a BBQ/Crabshack on the Outerbanks in a few years. You watch.
Fish and play on the beach in the morning, sell BBQ all day and play guitar in the bars at night. Ahhhhh the Pirate's Life for me! peace |
Re: Where would you go?
Cabin in the Poconos in the summer...some beach in the winter.
|
Re: Where would you go?
This would be a possibility. I like my address to be a lat/lon
Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys can be found at Latitude 24°37.11, Longitude 81°24.42. Florida resort - Florida keys beach resort & spa - All inclusive luxury private island |

I'm with you. I love the Clearwater area in Florida. I'd want to be somewhere like that, where I could be on the beach one minute and at the mall or store the next minute. |
Re: Where would you go?
If I won a million dollars I'd buy beach front property that also allowed me to have horses. Enough land for a barn. I'd ride on the beach, and in the Ocean. That's my dream home.
|
Re: Where would you go?
Somewhere in the Caribbean would be great. It's my home away from home now and I love it.
That or the International Space Station. How bad ass would that be? <<ring, ring>> "Hey Matty, what's up?" "Smack, what's going down?!" "You know, just chillin', floatin' around pouring Coronas down my throat, watching the game from my personal satellite...on the International Space Station!" |
Re: Where would you go?
i don't know what i would do, besides volunteering time with kids. I'm not that big on the beach thing. too much sand in my crack:(
|
Re: Where would you go?
I'd keep life kind of simple and buy a 60 foot boat and enjoy all the beaches around the world. Do some deep sea fishing to keep plenty of freash seafood on board and just travel around with no particular place to be. Not sure what I'd do with the wife and the kid because when you fantasize about something like that it has 2 or 3 young ladies in small bikinies laying around the boat. Not a wife nagging you and a kid crying in the background.

Re: Where would you go?
I've never really been on vacation and the furthest south i've gone is North Carolina so i'm not really thinking anywhere tropical. I am pretty sure i would stay right in the area and not move more than 15 minutes from my house. I would get a much bigger house though. I would definitely buy a house in College Park because I have a lot of family that'll could be going there(7 younger cousins and syblings, two of which are probably are going to maryland in the next 2 years). THey could use a nice big house. I would 'pimp' the hell out of it too.
Even if I won like 10 million i don't think i would get a house in florida or anything. I might but if I won like 25 million I would definatley get something in florida to hang out at in the winter and the summer. Lots of cars and fun stuff though. That is how i would like to spend my money. |
Re: Where would you go?
I would buy a really nice home in an upscale community of San Diego ( Rancho Santa Fe or La Jolla).
Or I would live in a suite at Fedex Field. |

Only thing I am seriously worried about is paying for a fresh water refining plant and piracy. But I hope to get one. |
Re: Where would you go?
I would keep my home base right here at home, but I'd do a ton of traveling.
Assuming money was no object, I'd probably own a beach house, a house on a golf course to which I belonged, a condo in Vegas, and a house in the mountains somewhere. I'd probably bounce around from house to house, but also spend lots of time in Europe and the Carribbean at resorts. |

No worries. I'd figure to play golf, snorkel, sail, hold up the corner of a tiki bar, you know the basics. I'd probably get bored, but then remember what it was like before, and quickly go invade hoo's private island
Honestly I am thinking about buying an island when I retire. Re: Where would you go?
First I would buy a House on 10th street which is my Favorite cove in Laguna Beach. Then I would buy a house on the coast in Big Sur. After that I would build a big house in Coffs Harbor Australia out towards the big Banana. I would also buy back my Grandparents house behind Mount Vernon next to the Potomac so that I could stay there when I fly back to Virginia for Redskins games and Christmas. I would have to get family to live in and take care of them because I would be out globe trotting with beautiful women like Dr.Buss does majority of the time. I think that would about do it.
That reminds me I need to go buy a lotto ticket.;) |

If you didn't have to work for any reason, where would you end up?
I want a private beach...I would never put shoes on again. I'd like to say Hawaii for the simple fact that it can be very secluded and I can embrace the culture. However, it is so public (very rare to have a private beach there) that it might be impossible. Grand Cayman Island has some spots that are extremely secluded, and I loved playing with those sting rays...they are like giant dogs, but do I really want to be under British rule? That leaves St. Thomas or St. John. St. Thomas is more popular, so St. John would be the better answer, but there is nothing there but the island. You don't have decent dining or anything like that. Then again, I suppose I can drive my yacht over to St. Thomas to dine. hehe. Plus, Kenny Chesney has a place on St. John, and he lives my kind of lifestyle. No shoes, no shirt, no problem. |

I would do... nothing. I would sit around on my ass..

Gotta love Hawaii cause if you get sick of the seclusion, you can go to Honolulu to get what you need. |

Re: Where would you go?
It's the beach that runs down the eastern tip of Myrtle Beach,SC. Between North Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island/ Surfside beach! Truely Beautiful!
Great Beaches, Great golf, Nice Harley riding, Beautiful Women & Great Grub.....what more could a man want? |

I ride a lot from C-bad to Ruidoso, NM, and it's a nice scenic drive. (Ruidoso is a mountain town) It's about a 2.5 hour drive from here, but it's worth it. On a side note, I just had a friend get in a horrific crash on his harley. He was not wearing a helmet and was clipped by a truck on his saddle bag. He is going to make it, but he had internal bleeding, brain bleeding, and needs plastic surgery to reconstruct his face. It happened when they were coming back from Austin. (I'm glad I didn't take them up on my invite cause we usually drive side by side when we ride together) I know it's addicting to not wear a helmet, but if you're doing long travel, you need to wear a helmet guys! I will only ride without a helmet if I plan to ride less than 35mph. |
Re: Where would you go?
I would buy a big 'ol RV and drive all over the country. I have only been to the surrounding states of NC, Kansas City and DC. That's it. I need to get out more.

I used to ride without a helmet when I was younger. But I will not get on a bike with out one now. A few years back my friend’s dad was out camping in the desert with his Family like they did ever year for the 4th. One afternoon he decided to take his little grandson for a ride around the camp site. He wasn't going more then 15 to 20 mph. Some how the bike tipped over and he hit his head on the hard dirt. His grandson wasn't scratched but he suffered severe brain damage and died a week later never regaining consciousness. If he had been wearing his helmet everyone would have been laughing about it. Yea, it's some beautiful riden through those parts of SC. For myself I've been down on the road three times on varios Harleys. GOD WILLING I'M STILL KICKING! It's only FAITH and some LUCK there bro. As far as the BRAIN BUCKET LAW I could care less I'm wearing mine PERIOD, at any speed. Even down there most don't but we have seen some GOD aweful accidents that were fatal, with and without LIDS, I agree with the right to choose. But me and my wife choose we are wearing. |
Re: Where would you go?
I'm not trying to highjack this thread. But thinking about this brought back another memory. Back in H.S my friend and I were ridding are induros around when some idiot pulled out in front of us. Luckily for me I was behind him and was able to stop. He crashed into the car and flew over the hood. He shattered his foot on his handle bars a broke his arm. When he hit the road he slid for about 20 feet on his head and shoulder. Thank god he was wearing his helmet that day. The doctors had to pick the grains of fiberglass from his helmet out of his back. After looking at the helmet there is not a doubt in my mind if he hadn't had it on he would have died. The pathment had ground through about 6 layers of the fiberglass which would have been his skull if not for the helmet.

I ride around my house with no helmet (there is no law requiring helmets here), but I always felt that if I crashed at a low speed, it wouldn't hurt me. Well...wouldn't destroy my head anyway. But I keep hearing stories about people at low speeds getting killed...it's getting a little scary. It's a shame there are SOOOO many poor drivers out there that could care less about motorcycles and the safety of those riders. I might need to wear a helmet at all times now. |
