Stress relief tactics?
What is your favorite thing to do to reduce or get rid of stress in your life?

Re: Stress relief tactics?
My girlfriend...zing!
But seriously folks. Going for a walk, or recently I discovered there's a hiking trail 5 minutes down the street from me. I just put on the ipod and starts strolling (or hiking) |

Mine is to ride my motorcycle. Sometimes Boxing is the answer, but riding the motorcycle gets my mind right. It was a fathers day gift for me after my daughter died in Jan. of 04. |

Re: Stress relief tactics?
I go to the gym. I love to lift weights. Some good music and a little old-fashioned pumping iron. Breaking a sweat and all that exertion really helps with stress. Any exercise for that matter. Stretching is great too. Take 10-15 minutes and stretch every part of your body while focusing on taking deep breaths. I do it before I go to bed. Really loosens me up and calms me down. And of course, the best of all, good sex! :thumb:

Don't worry about it. That's life. I'm just glad I have something that has the ability to get my mind off things. |

Sometimes I just have to rub one out...

Re: Stress relief tactics?
Walking/running while listening to music does it for me. Getting out to the country side is something I find relaxing too.
The parents of this girl that I know have a cabin out in Leavenworth, WA. I make it a point to go there at least once a year just to relax. Their is a river 10 feet away from the cabin and a three day weekend there feels like heaven. We swim in the river, then get into the hot tub and just have great conversations. They have this nice telescope there too. During the summer the sky is crystal clean and perfect for star gazing. |

Re: Stress relief tactics?
Harley gas a burnin, it's a real get away.
|
Re: Stress relief tactics?
i like to keep control of my anger. so i sit and think is it really worth it? i have endured a ton in my life, so its usually just a bump in the road
|
Re: Stress relief tactics?
Anything active. Playing some ball, going up White Oak or Little Devils Stairs (two of my favorite trails around here), soccer. Anything that you're doing with someone else and getting some excersize.
|
Re: Stress relief tactics?
Any sort of exercise does it for me. Whether it's hitting the gym or going for a long walk or bike ride. I can almost feel the stress melting away sometimes.
|
Re: Stress relief tactics?
Swimming.
There's something therapeutic about it. With running or just about any other exercise, you're subject to other sights and sounds around you. But in the water it's just silence (save for some splash sounds) and following a black line up and down a pool. You can retreat into your own world and get great exercise at the same time. |
Re: Stress relief tactics?
Not a big fan of stress, so I don't have it.
|
Re: Stress relief tactics?
Sometimes it's just as simple as cranking a great song and getting totally lost in it. That's usually how I'll try to unwind on the way home from work.

Honestly, this sounds totally hick of me, but I get on my riding mower, put on the iPod and mow the back yard for a couple hours.

Re: Stress relief tactics?
jamf has the right idea...
I'm fortunate enough that my folks rent a very small place on the Delaware Seashore 2.5 blocks from the beach from May 15 to September 15 (might be 300 square feet but who cares, all you do is shower and sleep there), so if I'm ever stressed out enough, I'll take Friday off, hop in the car Thursday night and head on down. Grab a beer at my favorite watering hole, and then hit the beach the next day. Read your favorite book or periodical, grab some rays and some waves. To me, there's nothing better. Very easy way to just get away from the grind of the week. If I can't make the beach, I call a few buddies and grab a tee time. While golf stresses some out, it's very relaxing to me. I think it has to do with the fact that I know i'm not good, so I don't expect much from myself. I'm probably between an 18-20 handicap (was a 12 while playing in high school), so I just go out and have fun. If I break 90, it's a good day. If I shoot triple digits, I chalk it up to the beer. Life's just too short to be stressed out all the time. I've seen too many people break down because of stress, and I always tell myself that it could always be worse. |

It's only hick if you take your shirt off and wear a pair of cutoff denim shorts with work boots. |

Re: Stress relief tactics?
That would definitely be hick...pushing a riding mower.

The hickest thing would be getting a DWI while riding one. It happens. |

HA. I typically wear this pair of camo shorts I have that I do yard work in and drink a PBR in my Redskins coozie. Lady Brave, I have indeed heard of that, but I hear you have to be driving on the actual road to get one. If I'm THAT drunk to be rolling down the highway, I deserve it! |

Well some folks in the rural south think lawn mowers and tractors are a perfectly acceptable means of transportation. We actually have a lady who rides her motorized wheelchair in the middle of a very busy four lane street in front of our courthouse and you better not even think about blowing your horn at her. She scares me. |
Re: Stress relief tactics?
It seems like every town has one of those. There's a wheelchair lady here and she DARES you to run into her. She'll pull right out in front of you and not care at all.

Re: Stress relief tactics?
As a kid we had this town drunk who had so many DWI's they took his license away for good. So he drove a small farm tractor around town, I guess you don't need a license for that.
It was hilarious, this old drunk totally bombed cruising around on a damn tractor. We used to chase after him on our bikes and one of my friends would even hop on the back and the old guy wouldn't even notice! Looking back now I don't understand why the cops didn't pull his drunk ass over whenever he was on that tractor. |

LOL when I lived in Massachusetts a few years ago there was this old lady who used to drive right down the middle of the road in her wheelchair. I think she even had turn signals on the back of it. |
Re: Stress relief tactics?
It's kind of surprising that no one has run them over. Like they really piss people off a LOT.
