Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
The new MMQB columns ranks the league's qb's from first to last, the twist being that the rankings are based on how King expects starting qb's to perform this season. Campbell comes in at 26th, which is 17 spots lower than John Kitna. Seems kinda of low to me. One can suggest that Campbell is young and unproven, but so is Jay Cutler who charts 10th and has almost identical numbers. What do you guys think?

Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
whatever, ya know? none of these predictions mean anything. from the way people (who are actually around JC veryday) are talking, JC sounds as if he's really looking good. so i'm encouraged.

Sorry about that. It's still early morning here. |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
I'm wondering what criteria he's using to make his prediction. These guys freak me out with these off the cuff formulas for success or failure. There's no way he can make a prediction like that because there's no way for him to conclude it. It's like Playboy picking football.........A bad joke.

Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
He says in the article that his ratings are based off of each players 2005 and 2006 numbers. Can't expect our boy to be rated too high based on that criteria. I welcome this kind of talk from King. JUST KEEP FUELING THE FIRE, BABY!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Based on that criteria which is the only formula that could possibly aply, it's still pure conjecture to rate Campbell that way because his numbers do not speak for an entire season. Plus every year in the NFL is totally different, and you cannot predict numbers from one season to the next. No one knows how players are going to play the games, if we did it wouln't be much fun to watch because we would be able to predict the outcome as well. |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
He states that he's not using any hard criteria in his evaluation. He is considering 05 and 06 stats, but ultimately he is assigning a rating based on where he thinks the QB will end up in 07 compared to his peers. Again I would point to Cutler who has essentially identical stats as Campbell but is rated in the top 10.
At the end of the day I don't think we needed this chart to determine that Petey boy doesn't think much of the Skins, but I still think it's kind of low considering the weapons that Campbell has and the time he has put in this offseason. |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
Man I hope JC lights it up when he gets out there. I'm ready. I also hope that there is a very large chip resting squarely on the shoulders of every player and coach on this team. It's time to prove something fellas.

Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
What do I think? I think I'd like to have a celebrity death match with Peter King vs. Pasquereilli, and see them beat each other to a bloddy pulp. Peter King is a f-ing moron.
|
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
I just now looked at the list- he has Young, Kitna, Cutler, Rivers, and Romo all ahead of McNabb??? I take it back, I don't want to see him get beaten to a pulp, I want to open hand bitch slap him. (sorry, I don't know where the violence is coming from tonight). What a moron.

Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
Peter King still writes sports-related articles? I guess my "Peter King written article blocking technique" really works.
|
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
That is pretty sad since at least 6 to 10 will miss significant time to injury or be benched.
I think Campbell will be no worse than Brunell was in '05 and he has a ton of upside. |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
ESPN had an interesting fact today which is that Jason Campbell has the longest current games with a TD pass streak at 7. He's thrown a TD pass in every game he's started. I think we might be on to something here.
As for PK's list, it is predictably banal. These guys are all so boring. |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
Man F**K Peter King. He is the 2nd biggest ass in the sports profession. (Pacman being the first.)

Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
SI sucks ass. Worst place to go for predictions, but most sports writers are horrid in the first place and write moronic crap. Dr. Z just goes by what happened the previous season. Peter King is no better. It is impossible to rate qbs or even make predictions as so many cogs in a team's offense can make or break a QB. What happens if Harrison and Wayne get hurt in a game or a motor accident, or more likely preseason? Peyton is going to have much lower numbers at the end of the year and definitely won' t make the big dance. I guess my point is the total concept behind King's article is idiotic. I can sort of see these Foxsports power ranking preseason based on FA signings and draft results, but even that is sort of moronic as nobody knows how the newbies will play out. I can tell you this though, if JC does end up 26th we will have a crappy season, because that more than likely means Randle El and Lloyd would have another unproductive season and we would be skunked yet again with another unproductive big wave of expensive FA signings.

Sports Illustrated had the Pathers beating the Dolphins for the Super Bowl in last year's NFL Preview issue. Nuff said.

Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
King is such a tool. I remember he said Danny Weurfel was going to be the next Kurt Warner.
|
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
Of course its all speculation but I think the reason someone like JC is ranked so low and Cutler is ranked high is the team they play for. Denver is a proven team that is consistently in the playoff hunt. The Skins are a dysfunctional organization that is currently a perennial loser. I think if JC played for a better team he would be ranked higher.
|
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
I have as much invested in Jason Campbell as most anybody and am hoping for a big season, but who knows. I think Cutler is WAY overrated by King, but the others don't look all that horrible. He also has Alex Smith rated down at #25, which I'm sure 49er fans would argue with and Leinart is at 18. I think JC, Smith, and Leinart are all better than Cutler, but the Broncos get a ton of love so whatever.

Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
why is everyone getting in an uproar? Mcnabb is easily top 5, and we see where he is ranked. where did he put his boy Eli Manning? king had a big time love affair with cutler, even before he had played a down in this league. man, i cant wait for the real deal to start. i hate arguing over fat, bald headed guys who don't know what they are talking about
|
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
his ideas are not based on anything other than who he likes to watch. King should have named his article "my favorite qb's in the NFL".
|
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
The only person who can prove Mr. King wrong is Jason Campbell. I hope JC proves Mr. King to be an ill-informed writer rather than a predictive genius.

No way is McNabb better than anyone in PK's top 5. A few years ago he might have been but not now. |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
Not sure why its such a surprise where JC is ranked base on how he ranked the QB's and if you read how he ranked them it makes sense. He even kind of joked on where Kitna was in his raking but explained it was based on how he was ranking them.

Ultimately the rankings represent his prediction of how he thinks the quarterback will perform in 2007. It's not based on any hard methodology or formula. I think most people here feel that it's reasonable to expect more of Campbell in his first full year as a starter. As for the Kitna ranking, if I said the Earth was flat and then made a joke about having said it, it wouldn't make it any less of an ass-stupid comment. |

then we will have to disagree. the only 2 quarterbacks on the list that deserve to be ranked higher are Manning and Brady. you would seriously take Marc Bulger over Mcnabb? |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
Whatever. King is just throwing his opinion out there. Some points he makes will actaully be right (Donovan won't be as hot as he was in 2006 again), Others (such as Romo and Young being more productive than McNabb) will be wrong. That's not a big deal.
Speaking of opinions, heres how I would have done it: 1. Peyton Manning 2. Everyone else With everyone else listed in this order: 2. Marc Bulger 3. Phillip Rivers 4. Matt Leinart 5. Tom Brady 6. Carson Palmer 7. Matt Hasselbeck 8. Matt Schaub 9. Ben Roethlisberger 10. Drew Brees 11. Donovan McNabb 12. Jason Campbell 13. Byron Leftwich 14. Jay Cutler 15. Vince Young 16. Eli Manning 17. Chad Pennington 18. Steve McNair 19. Jon Kitna 20. Jeff Garcia 21. Trent Green 22. Alex Smith 23. Rex Grossman 24. Tony Romo 25. Jake Delhomme 26. Brett Favre 27. Michael Vick 28. Josh McCown 29. Brodie Croyle 30. Charlie Frye 31. JP Losman 32. Tavaris Jackson |
then we will have to disagree. the only 2 quarterbacks on the list that deserve to be ranked higher are Manning and Brady. you would seriously take Marc Bulger over Mcnabb?
I would absolutely.
I'd put my money on Bulger getting NFL MVP this year assuming my predicition that the Rams run off 11+ wins in the regular season comes true. McNabb's good (obviously), but his entire career suggests that his first 6 games of last season were a mirage, and that he got injured before his numbers could be pulled back down to earth. I'd expect him to have another good season again this year, but top 3 is borderline ridiculous. But then again, you know what they say about opinions. |
Re: Peter King Expects Jason Campbell to be 26th Most Productive 2007 QB
McNabb put up HUGE numbers in 2004, so I'm not sure why anyone would consider what he did last year until he got injured a "mirage".
In fact if you look at his last two injury plagued seasons, if you project those numbers out over a full season his numbers would be pretty much right in line with his 2004 season. |
