Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
I'd eat those 8 games! The whole time he's sitting think about it. We have this behemoth waiting to come in in the second half of the season which is around the time guys start to wear down. It's the best of both worlds. He surely upgrades our D-Line and it will be at a bargain rate !
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
sign him now, I think our vets would be a positive influence on him.
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
sign him get him in here i would even sign him at more than vet min. if there was a strict personal conduct clause in there... there is no denying the man is a beast
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
This guy is BAD news........PACTIRD Jr., he'll never learn. No suprise here.
100% TOTAL PIECE OF SHIT! |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
no way in hell do we want him here. way too much backage. and will miss, at least, half the season due to suspension.
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Is anyone surprised?
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
I'd take a risk-free deal for him.
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
I don't think Gibbs would sign off on it. But I would love to have him if the price is right. He could definitely help are D.

100% TOTAL PIECE OF SHIT!
I agree. The minute the guy gets out of jail he's talking about how he's a changed man. How he's going to be the NFL man of the year. And then he's out at 3:30am possibly driving drunk?? WTF is that all about? If this is true no way should we touch this guy. Does anyone think Gibbs, who is Mr. Character, is going to sign off on this? No way in hell. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Don't make the mistake with him, I don't see him benifiting us at all, only being a distraction we don't need.
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson

No, it would have to be a guy more like Jerry Jones. |

Correct. Joe would not touch this LOSER with a 10 foot dummy stick, might get some on him! Nice to know this TARD could turn his life around for a whole 15 minutes. NO WAY IN HELL HE WILL BE IN DC FOR ANY AMOUNT! |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Tank is a great football player, he'd upgrade our D Line automatically,
he did his time and this new mishap seems to be just that, a mishap, no charges filled ......Id give him the benifit of the doubt and sign him to the vet minimum,,,,Cant hurt to have help where we hurt most last season ms |

The fact of the matter is, Tank is going to get signed by someone. The real question is, will the Skins take a good look at this. But I'll tellya what, if we think Joe Gibbs and Co. aren't thinking about it, we're fooling ourselves. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Honestly, there's people in this league a lot worse-off. I'd consider him without a doubt. I won't say vet minimum, but I'll definitely say a one year deal with a behavioral clause.
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
I can guarantee there's no way this front office is seriously considering this guy. I applaud the Bears for acting swiftly with him. They gave him a clear order to keep his nose clean, and it didn't take long at all for him to F things up.
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
If he played ANY other position but DL I'd say no way. BUT, given our line problems, I'd take him.
BTW - since he is still under his rookie contract, he is waived and does not have outright release UNLESS all 32 teams pass on him. Instead, the claiming team gets him for two years at the rookie contract minimums (He got all his money in his rookie signing bonus). So, if we claim him off waivers, we get him for 8 games this year and a full season next year at the minimums. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Can anyone say Darrell Russell??
|
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
I don't [get] people like this...psst, you can pay someone to drive you all year round for maybe 35K-40K a year...and you don't need a degree in decision science to figure that out.
I don't want Mr. Stupidson in D.C. |

I don't want Mr. Stupidson here in D.C.
That's funny right there. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Let's see a recent DUI arrest and he got nailed with 6 unregistered firearms. Can you say BAD NEWS!!!!!! Sure, it would be very tempting to get him since our D line woes, but I think the league is going to try and clean up its act with this stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if he sits a year before being signed anywhere til the smoke clears. OF course I can be wrong, but who wants to be the team that is seen picking up another teams dirty laundry. The NFl has an image problem it badly needs to reverse.

Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Anybody who pursues Tank Johnson prior to NEXT season, is an idiot.
For starters, he has that 8 game suspension. That also means he cannot use team facilities for any reason. He is essentially banned from the clubhouse. So he cannot use the fitness facilities, fitness coaches, dieticians etc. So you loose him for half the season, and probably will not be in the best of shape when he shows up week 7. Two....the guy has proven over again that he simply cannot be trusted to stay out of situations that lead to trouble. You can bet that the Bears organization had him on a very short leash after he got out of jail. I am sure the organization let him know in no uncertain terms that the slightest hint of trouble would lead to his release. But yet, he tested the system anyway, almost like he dared them. He needs to take a year off and prove he can stay out of trouble and can contribute. All he has proven thus far, that he cannot contribute while he is suspended or in jail. If I were a GM, I would not want to burn a roster spot on a guy that probably will not be playing anyway. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
IMO, Gibbs will coach a guy that has problems if he thinks the guy has redeeming qualities. e.g. He never turned his back on D. Manley, despite DM saying stupid stuff to the press, getting busted for drugs, etc.
that said, there's a difference between having personal problems such as an addiction and being a true criminal. Granted that drugs are illegal as is driving drunk, but guys like Tank & Pacman seem not too bothered by criminal behavior, their own or others. As individuals who are really young, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and let them mature, but for this season, I don't see Tank suddenly growing up. Yeah, he could mature a lot in the 8 game suspension, but he could also fall apart due to the lack of structure in his life that football gave him, get fat, out of shape or in trouble again. I'd be shocked if we signed this guy. |

You are 100% CORRECT! I also applaud the bears for dumping this piece of shit. This is the BEST MOVE they made all offseason! For those out there that really believe we will take a look at this CLOWN your on major drugs. And help the team out AUTOMATICALLY..??? EXPLAIN THAT..? The dumb ass is suspended for the first eight games, damn good chance he'll end up losing the entire season before it's said and done. THE COMMISH AIN'T JOKIN! Of course some desperate shitbird team will pick up this LOSER, but he won't be landing in DC! ANY WAGERS? |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
It's funny to hear the responses, cause they are the same on each thread when it comes to someone that just got released with a somewhat checkered past.
Tank was released from the Bears for a reason, remember that. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Our D-Line will be fine.....everybody....relax and drink a cold one... or Linebackers or Stonger than ever, Our DB core, is top 10 easy now, with that superstar Rookie.......But I'd take tank because he's so talented that he would be worth it, plus he come cheap..........and wasn't D.
Manley the poster boy for F-up's |

Manley the poster boy for F-up's
Now thats more like it! Personally, I understand everybodys take here and wanting solid character type of guys. With that said, I do not believe that Tank Johnson would be that problemmatic here in Washington. For some reason we do not have that many troubled players. I chalk that up to good coaching and a solid locker room. By the way Riggins was trouble also, but the coaching staff found a way to keep him somewhat in line. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
sandtrap made the correct point and you guys are missing it. He's got an automatic 8 game suspension. Now if it's November and our line is battered, we are potentially in the playoff hunt but giving up big yards on the ground each week then this would at least be worth discussing. But as it stands now, Tank is not going to be playing for anyone until midway through this season at the earliest.

Yes but we could sign him now with it in our minds that we would have him after this season. |

Well we could also sign Jeff George with it in our minds that he would lead us to the superbowl. However, I don't think we'll be spending a valuable roster spot on either of them. |

Point taken, but we would have to spend as much on Tank. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
I hear Ray Caruth will be paroled soon as well, we should start negotiating with his agent now!

Hell, while we are at it Michael Westbrook isnt doing anything right now either. Lets just go get them all. Look I was just saying for the sake of argument that it could be looked at as an investment. Personally I could care less either way. |
Re: Bears waive troubled DT Tank Johnson
Signing him would be sending a real positive message to our hard-working overachievers that keep their noses clean. I give better chances of us signing Deion Sanders over Tank the Shank.

What's the big deal?????? It worked in the Longest yard. |

The flip side is our d-line could not rush the passer for crap. Plus if I remember correctly, the last game of the year, Tiki ran for somthing like 235 yards. You just don't see that very often in the NFL. So our d-line is VERY questionable at best. Yeah it's good to have great character guys, but if they aren't any good then we gotta look at all the options. It's not going to happen on Gibbs' watch but I would try and sign the guy. |
