Joe Sykes released

Sykes Among Four Released

This comes as a surprise to me. I thought Sykes had a shot at making the roster, well so much for that. WR Cedric Bonner, DB Brandon Register, and LB Zach Latimer were also released, to make room for two NFL Europa players.

Never heard of those guys, so they must just have been roster fodder to begin with.

I will remember Sykes as the only player to show up on the field that I had never heard of. He played in the last game of the year against the g men, guess we were desperate at that point.

The Ravens, Eagles, and Patriots seem to have alot more luck with practice squad. Our defensive lineman have all been cut before training camp starts. I cant understand what they saw in them last year that is not good enough for training camp.

Really? Are you a follower of NFL practice squads or something? Who do any of these teams have on their active roster that came from the PS?

Practice squads are for projects and scrubs. Seriously, who cares?

I'm simply asking you to back up your view. Sounds like you're just bashing for the sake of bashing.

Who from their practice squads is a regular contributor? Seems to me we have had one or two practice squad guys make the team or have a legitimate shot? Plus, you can only have so many slots at TCamp. Clearly, the coaches think that the guys cut weren't good enough to make the top 80.

Re: Joe Sykes released

If I'm not mistaken, any team can sign a guy from any other team's practice squad. I also think, if that happens, the signing team must place the guy on the roster -- they can't sign him onto their practice squad. So, if there are ever any "good" practice squads, the players on them would be available to EVERY team. If a team has a poor practice squad, it's a moot point -- from a roster development perspective -- as they can always take players from any practice squad in the league.

Somebody please correct me, if I am wrong.

I think you're dead on. You essentially can't shuffle practice squad players.

However, if a guy is cut from the practice squad the other team can then place him on their practice squad.

Wow, our defensive starting four MUST BE all-world beaters, and sure locks to make the team. I mean heck, these guys are so awesome that our coaching staff can't even bring in competition to compete for a job. Yep, those guys were great great last year. Oh brother.............
