Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
1. Baltimore Ravens
2. Chicago Bears 3. Denver Broncos 4. Oakland Raiders 5. Philadelphia Eagles 6. Jacksonville Jaguars 7. Dallas Cowboys 8. San Francisco 49ers 9. San Diego Chargers 10. Washington Redskins The Redskins have a very talented secondary that struggled with consistency and durability last season under defensive coordinator Greg Williams. The duo of FS Sean Taylor and SS LaRon Landry gives the Redskins a tremendous amount of versatility in the backend of their secondary. Taylor is a big, playmaking safety with good athletic skills, while Landry has the upside to develop into a Pro Bowl player. However, Taylor needs to play with more consistency in 2007. CB Shawn Springs is the team's most consistent player in the secondary when healthy. Springs has good cover skills and can match up with the opponent's No. 1 receiver. CB Carlos Rogers is a physical player who can be a liability in coverage due to his inconsistent play. The Redskins have a lot of depth at corner in David Macklin, Fred Smoot and Jerametrius Butler. What is Dallas doing at #7
|
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
I'll take that... 10 is respectable from where we were last year.... I think our secondary will hinge heavily on SS #24. Simply put... he is shut down caliber... he just needs to take care of himself as the Great players learn to do... If he takes care of his body properly as he continues to age he should be OK. I think he will considering the chip on his shoulder after this past year and the likely result of him being injured for much of this season. He'll be looking for work next season if he becomes a liability on our Injured Reserve again.
I'm looking for big things from our Secondary this year... |

And Chacagio seems to high to me at 2. |
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
That ranking seems a bit high to me. With a defense as horrid as the Redskins' last year, I'm not sure how any set of defensive players from this team can be in the top half of the league.
Springs, Rogers, and Smoot are all pretty big question marks if you ask me. And I need proof that Macklin and Butler will give us any more than we had with Wright and Rumph. It's one of those weird things: if I don't think about it too much, I feel pretty optimistic for 2007. But once I sit down and really examine it, the evidence seems to mount against us. |
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
Those rankings are bogus. I thought they were based on the upcoming season. Most of those teams lost key players from last year, this is my top 10

1. Denver Broncos- Champ and Dre will be the best CB combo in the NFL 2. Baltimore Ravens- Mcallister, Reed, Rolle and the other Landry= Ballhawks 3. Washington Redskins- 9 in the box cover 0 every play (Springs,Smoot,Rogers get it done) 4. Oakland Raiders- Already a stingy passD just got better with the addition of Darius 5. Chicago Bears- THEY GOT ADAM ARCHULATER (maybe they should be #1) 6. San Francisco 49ers- Harris lead the league in ints and Clements is worth the money 7. Philadelphia Eagles- Dawkins is still a top 5 safety 8. Jacksonville Jaguars- They lost the glue of that secondary when they let Darius go 9. New England Patriots- They better sign Samuel to a long year deal 10. San Diego Chargers- Not the fastest Secondary but maybe the smartest |

I also like how you ended a post just to come back and reply to it. |

But At the end of the year after the Skins lead the league in interceptions, we will be put in the top 5. |
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
that is way too high, going on what happened last season. and if we don't get a pass rush, we are in trouble
|
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
Based on last year #10 appears to be too high, but if you look at the upgrades we've made with Landry, Smoot and Macklin I think #10 is pretty accurate.

And I really doubt he will repeat his performance like last yr this yr.. It was just a fluke.. |

Champ and Asante both had 10. Isn't that a coincidence that Champ and Harris use to be on a Redskins payroll and combined they tripled the amount of interceptions we had as a team. 18vs6 |
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
we better hope springs can stay on the field or we are in for a long year again. rogers is average at best. taylor need to step up.
|
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
Rogers can be solid, he just needs to hold on to the ball. He is strong and thrives in press coverage and he is very confident in his man coverage abilities. If he could hold on to the damn ball he will be a pro bowl corner.
|
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
yea he could but i do remember him getting lazy on plays which pisses me off. if i were a pro football player i would be haulin ass everywhere. not sayin i would be better then him like some people around here would but i would def. try my hardest

Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
He was the best corner drafted in that draft coming out of college, he has shown flashes of brillance

yea that is true |
Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
But the thing is right after hr makes a great play he will counter it with 4 consecutive bad ones. his only problem is using too much of a cushion, try gambling and jumping routes. Look at how well it worked for Champ, Shawn in 2004, Fred Smoot when he was here and Asante Samuel in 2006. that is what he needs to do more, and Fred Smoot has been showing him how to anticipate routes i hope because Springs hasnt down.

Re: Scout's Inc. DB Rankings: We're #10
rogers is just a average corner. We should have drafted merriman would have filled a huge need on defense a pass rusher.

Right now he is...I have to agree with him. He has the "potential" to be much more...but potential is nothing if not utilyzed. ps- I think we are all underestimating Smoot...he is going to be a GREAT addition. He will easily win the #2 spot and could be a pro bowler. He is going to perform the way he should have in Minn. |

Rogers will have a breakout season. Football is all about confidence and with our new roster Rogers should have all the confidence needed. He would probably be our 3rd corner that means now instead of going up against T.O on every play and being on the field every play, he comes in on Nickle situations (fresh legs) looks across from him and its Patrick Crayton, thats a BIG diefference. Slot reciever SHUT DOWN |

I think by week 6 he and Rogers will have outpreformed Springs moving him to nickel. |

That Taylor will improve his pass coverage
That Rogers will improve his pass coverage
That Archuleta was as horrible statically last year as he was anecdotelly, and that replacing him with the run of the mill SS (either a rookie Landry, or a journeyman) actually improves our defense.
That Springs will be healthy, and if not, Smooty can step in with little to no dropoff.
Or that Laron Landry starts off what will be a historically great career with a much better than expected rookie performance. (Because if Scouts Inc is assuming Landry to be anything above replacement as a rookie DB, they really have to reexamine their methods of player eval).
And of course, that we get the right guys on the field regardless of reputation. If Taylor costs us a lot of touchdowns right off the bat, sit him to clear his head, or at the very least to improve the team. Same goes for Rogers. Don't abuse Landry before he is ready.
|
