Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
Some more rankings, this time put out by the guys at yahoo (the worst writers in sports). The two experts put us at 29 and 27. It is kinda worthless because they dont even explain their reasons behind it, but I thought a artical furthermore building us out as underdogs would be a nice change from Vick talk (not sure if thats a pun).
I like the fact our guys arnt getting hyped up at all and are gonna have one more thing to pratice and play hard. Go Skins! Preseason power rankings - NFL - Yahoo! Sports |
Re: Preseason POWER Rankings
I used to care about rankings. It sorta is fun to look at week 8 and after, especially if we are good but right now they mean nothing to me. I rather have position breakdowns so i can discuss something but i have nothign to say to this. Whatever, post pre-season, pre- season opener i'll take a look at power rankings again.
|
Re: Preseason POWER Rankings
Am I such a homer that these numbers make no sense. I feel like we are not that shitty compared to the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders of the world. We are one year removed from the playoffs and last year we had a ton of injuries. IT is just so fustrating!!!!!!By the end of October I feel like we could be 5-2.

NFL ranking according to Yahoo sports.
As always no confidence in the 'skins.

Re: NFL ranking according to Yahoo sports.
Granted.... we are up and down and do not deserve a high rating, but this is crazy! Once again, the Skins have to have the attitude that it's us against the league.... They all have something to prove!
|
Re: NFL ranking according to Yahoo sports.
everybody calm down........... when we get to N.E. we will only have two losses.......and this will make for a great game, and if we win, nah F.T., when we win, then cole and robinson can shove that ranking up their A**

Re: NFL ranking according to Yahoo sports.
I think what I like the most is Robinson having the Lions at 18. is that a joke?

Re: NFL ranking according to Yahoo sports.
There is already a thread about this.

Exactly AMD. Gonna merge the two

Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
What do you think? They are supposed to rate us in the top 10? Come on guys the Skins could do really good this year, or if JC and the WR's don't get the job done we could be a subpar .500 team again. Given the teams track record with only 2 playoff wins in the last 14 years, it would be tough to see them making us a solid contender this season. As for injuries? You don't think CP or Springs won't get beat up a gain this season, with us playing 9 playoff teams? Believe me we always seem to get banged up every year and this season will be no exception. Many in this forum don't think Portis will make it past game 8. Me game 10. Springs will miss a few games also in all probability. Bottom line no excuses!!! We can go 7-9 -10-6, maybe 11-5 if Lloyd and Randle El turn it up a notch.

As a guy in Detroit I do think it is a joke. The high ranking is almost exclusively Calvin Johnson. I know this guy is great, but I don't think he is going to be the new TO right away. I might be wrong, but a rookie in the NFL seldom has the impact of making a 3 win team a winner in one season. They do have the horses though on offense with Tatum Bell on board, but their O line sucks!!!!!! They haven't won in DC since 1967. I hope that streak stays alive. IF we lose to the Lions, our season is going to suck!!!!!!!! |
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
Big Deal.
Nobody's even put on pads yet. Who really cares about these polls right now, they are meaningless. Once the season starts, the play will dictate these polls. All they are now is people's imagination running wild with how they see the teams "possibly" stacking up before anything has been proven on the field. Garbage! |

The Cowboys have 0 playoff wins in the last 10 years and they're ranked 13th and 8th. At least the redskins have 2 wins in that period. So basically what I am saying is that Dallas sucks. |
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
i guess if they had us in the top 10 they would be great writers?? when are you people going to realize if the Skins dont win on the field, this is where we are. We have had two, count them, two winning seasons in all most 10 years. We have like the 2nd or 3rd worst losing record in the NFL over that 10 year span. What makes any of you think we dont deserve to be in the bottom 3rd of the league? is it because our payroll is the highest in the NFL year after year?? that we supposedly have all this talent?? if we had all the talent, then we would be in the top 3rd.
lets put this together from someone (the writers) not wearing burgandy & gold shades. Campbell at QB - showed some flashed, but essentially a Rookie - Portis coming off injuries - Betts - was last year the real Betts, or is the real Betts the one that can't stay healty? WR corp - other than Moss, who do we have that can produce?? O-line - losing Dock, putting a career tackle in his spot, how is that going to work out. the defensive line - horrible last year, no changes is it still going to be horrible?? Adding an aging MLB and starting essentially a rookie on the outside - is that going to work out. probably starting a rookie at the safety position. is shawn springs going to stay healthy? There are a ton of questions about this team that puts us in the bottom 3rd of the league. Stop thinking because of all the money we spend that we are automatically good. Also, can the head coach and offensive coordinator get along and agree on how the team is going to operate?? Will GW "out coach" him self again this year?? I think 25-28 is pretty solid ranking for a team that has this many questions. |

In case you haven't realized Campbell is a 3rd year QB. He has started 7 games. Are you suggesting he is as green as this years first pick Russell? Also, RM is not a rookie either. he started 2 games last year for us. These guys are now veterans. They may not be long time vets but they still have had time to adjust to the nfl game and its not like they have never played a down. |

come on, i am speaking of experience. Campbell has 7 games, and Rocky has 2. Veterans?? with out 1 year experience of BEING ON THE FIELD?? I dont think so. They are essentially 1st year players. Look, I want the skins to win it all, I am just bringing up points that have been brought up 1000 times out here. Campbell has played 7 games, for a team that was going no where. what did he have to lose? lets see how they handle a 16 game season. I am trying to be realistic which is hard to find out here. |

You are 100% correct. JC is basically a rookie. He does not even have half a season of starts under his belt. 16 games is a grind and when he takes the field for the 1st game the team will be trying to get to the super bowl, not trying to finish the season on an up-note, the pressure is a little different. Hopefully JC is up to the task. Realism is often in short supply on this site. |
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
So for those that are considering him to be 'just a rookie', will you cut him the slack that goes along with a rookie QB this year?
I guess if being realistic means being as pessimistic as possible... then yeah I guess we're lacking in that area around here. Welcome to life on fan(aticle) site. |
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
Well reality is Campbell going into this season has more NFL experience than Kurt Warner did for the Rams in 1999 (Super Bowl Champs); Tom Brady did for the Patriots in 2000 (Super Bowl Champs); and Ben Roethlisberger did in 2004 (15-1 record, AFC Championship game)
|
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
I dont feel I am being pessamistic at all. well, maybe a little. 2 winning season in 10 years I would imagine gives me a little right to be. I hope JC comes in and lights it up, like Warner, Brady, but that would not be the norm for a 1st year starter. if anyone is "expecting" him to come in and be probowl material is a little dilusional. you would expect Peyton, brady, Palmer and those guys to light it up.
|
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
I also dont think I am being pessemistic and frankly what has this team done in the last 15 years to make me optimistic. I believe I give credit where its due and negative comments when thats called for.
I agree that JC has more experience than the QBs Smoot mentiones but the problem JC faces is that his team is not a legit playoff contender or even expected by most to finish with a winning record. The teams Smoot mentions were all legit playoff contenders and the Rams in particular were picked by some to win the Super Bowl. I hope JC kicks butt but its a team game and right now he's not on a great team. |
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
This just made me sick. Do these people know anything?? ... what a freakin joke.
|
Re: Yahoo! Preseason POWER Rankings
What happened 10-15 years ago really doesn't have any effect on this year though. It would be much more realistic to look at the past 2-3 years. In Gibbs 2.0 yes the team is below .500 overall, but on the positive end there also was a playoff appearance and a 10-6 season.

All I can say is I travel a lot for work and when the the conversation turns to football and I mention I am a Redskins fan people just laugh and shake thier head. None of these people work for the anti-redskin media or have any other anti-redskin bias but they are knowledgeable footall fans. They think for the past 15 years the redskins have been a joke and Gibbs 2.0 is just more of the same. The notion that the redskins are a contender or even a decent team is ridiculous to them. High standards? What are you talking about? This team has 2 playoff appearances in 15 years. They are trolling down in Saints & Cards country yet the fans keep buying tickets and merchandise like the team has won 3 super bowls in a row. If you ask me the fans around here have incredibly low standards to keep putting up with this crap instead of voicing their disgust with how low this organization sunk. IMO anyone with high standards for the redskins (that they continually fail to meet) who points out that the skins are not cutting it is labeled as negative. |

C'mon that happens with everyone. Anytime someone mentions their favorite team to me unless it's the Skins I'll give them shit. Or unless it's the Patriots, but that's about the only team that's beyond poking fun at. Even then, who cares about what happened 10 years ago? That was before Snyder even. It's irrelevant. Whenever someone pokes fun at the Skins with me I'll say who's your team, and unless it's the Patriots or Colts the best response is yeah well when did your team win the SB last? |

I wouldn't mind being lumped with the Saints based on what they did last year. But I know you like the 15 year look so I guess that's out.

Why do you like the Cards this year? What have they done in recent memory to make you think that? They also have a young QB that you could call basically a rookie. |

Well, according to ESPN nearly 54% think the Skins are going to the playoffs this year. I would think in most people's eyes anything less would be a failure. I don't see Skins fans having low standards at all. If we had low standards I fail to understand why people would continue to go to the games or buy the merch. I also like that the cards have what seems to be an easy schedule. The coaching staff is an upgrade that is young & hungry. They do have prolems rushing and the D needs some help. I think their season will be very similar to the skins. SF is going to be the team from that division. |
