oooo, oooo, I got this one... "I don't see the problem with signing him for a vet. min." "I mean, he could probably be used for depth, at a vet. min" "I'm sure that he's got something left, I'd take him for a vet. min"... and then it digresses. |
Re: simeon rice
For once a player who I would gladly overpay to finish up his career here. Let him play 35% of the defensive snaps. He is still a better DE than anyone we have except for Carter. Who are the other DE's again????? Daniels, Wynn give me a break. Rice is better than both of those guys with his eyes closed.
|
Re: simeon rice
I would love to sign him, but I can't see him signing for anything less than a crazy contract. He's very old, but pass rushers like him are a rare breed. I don't see it happening though.
|
Re: simeon rice
In 2005 he did have 12 sacks, he might have something left in the tank.

But I would like him on the team as long as it isnt a crazy contract. |
Re: simeon rice
Let's sign him, but only for vet min.
My concern about the defensive line is young depth. I hope that Justin Hickman shows a lot and either makes the team or stays with us on the practice squad. Simeon Rice is someone we don't need. Renaldo Wynn is healthy and ready to roll. M. Washington and A. Carter are at defensive end in passing situations. Montgomery might be a star in the making. Golston is looking great. Philip Daniels is healthy. We have other good players on the line. |

I would love to see him in training camp and then when we play the Bucs he has 5 sacks. But for some reason I think the FO is too stubborn and has too much pride to sign him. "We said that out Dline is fine and we're going to stick by that statement" I hear GW saying that in a meeting this afternoon. |

Renaldo Wynn is ready to roll over. Give me some of those optimism pills. |

Can we put a 6 month ban on the term "vet minimum??? I mean every time some over the hill, broke down, almost was is released, everyone wants to sign him for "vet (or league) minimum" |
Re: simeon rice
what year is he going in to?
|
Re: simeon rice
Simeon Rice isn't signing for the veteran minimum. I doubt he will look for something crazy, but give the man some respect. He is... was.... and always will be a complete beast of a football player. Vet. minimum. Like it would be some kind of a generous offer or something.

Can we put a 6 month ban on the term "vet minimum??? I mean every time some over the hill, broke down, almost was is released, everyone wants to sign him for "vet (or league) minimum"[/quote]I agree. Theres no such thing as a guy who shouldn't be signed for the vet min. Doesn't exist. So saying that you'd give the vet min to a guy is a complete lack of analysis. Should we give Simeon Rice a fair market value contract? We have 7 mil to spare and I'd be looking at bringing in a guy for a one year solution. But to let Carter continue his development, we should be looking at a guy to come in and back him up. I don't think 7 million for one year is nearly enough to have Simeon Rice accept a backup role. |
Re: simeon rice
We have a decent amount of cap space don't we?

We'd be like the Danny in 2000, all threads would say yeah, let's sign this guy, e.g. Rice, he's a former pro-bowler & he ate us alive a few years ago. We should pay him at least a 10mil bonus! I don't know what I think of this, rice is kind of a self-absorbed ass & might not be too team oriented at this point of his career. Dude wants to get paid so he can keep getting manicures. Though I loved Bruce Smith, who's a fellow Hokie, he came here to get paid & get his record. Rice would be much the same. Of course if we sign him (vet min. of course) & he gets 5 sacks or so & good pressure, I'll get used to him. |
Re: simeon rice
This guy will probably get a 4-6 Millon a year on a 3 year deal.
He's being cut cause he would cost the bucs 10mil on their cap. I dont think the Skins will go there. If the skins can get him for under 2.5 mil/year I say do it.....but....that just aint gunna happen folks. Talk about presure...this guy is good...better than anyone we've got. I know he's old...but when he's on....watch out. I do like the guy. Y'all tell me if I'm smoking crack |
Re: simeon rice
he needs to be signed. He would a great replacement for daniels. Daniels is over the hill as well but is no where near rice in terms of talent. This would be a great upgrade here.

Re: simeon rice
I gotta correct myself here...
He aint gunna get no 4-6 mil/year....he actually failed his physical cause of his bad shoulder.... Max he gets is 3 ....if someone want to take a chance.... I still say we give him a shot at 2 mil.. assuming the physical was rigged to get him off the roster. |

I was wondering why they would wait till now to cut him, didn't seem to make much sense. He had a bad year last year too. It's sounding more & more like he's not worth signing. |
Re: simeon rice
we cant stop the run, and you guys want to pick up a guy who can only rush the passer? please call me when you wake up

Well, we cant rush the passer either....I would like a line that can do at least one of the two jobs they are supposed to do! Heck, a linebackers job is to tackle first....maybe we should use them for that! Using a LB as a pass rusher is only pointing out that we do not have a pass rushing line worth a crap.....I say we sign him if he passes a physical. He's probably better that anyone we have now!.....while injured! (ok, maybe Andre Carter is as good as a 33 year old injured Simeon Rice, but its close) |

I think they waited out his release so they could get Gaines Adams under contract first.....if they cut Rice first that would have given the Rookie serious leverage with his contract.....and a potential hold out. Just my opinion though... PS....crack is bad for you |
Re: simeon rice
Fuggadaboutittt!!!!!!! If Rice is refusing to take a paycut to stay with TB, do you think he is going to sign for league minimum? Only way this was going to happen was if Rice wanted to leave TB in the first place, but he hasn't made waves and showed up to camp without any fuss. He will retire or a team with more cap space might pick him up. Would love the Skins to be in the mix, but he probably will be more $ than we are willing/can spend.

Perfect timing. |
Re: simeon rice
Can he play Daniels side? If we cut Daniels, would he play for Daniels pay. Or for that matter Wynn's pay? What do you all think.
|
Re: simeon rice
I think that if we sign him, half the people here will hate it while the other half will love it.
|
Re: simeon rice
Sign him, anything that could help our D unit would be appreciated. I know GW could find some packages to put this vet in. I would much rather have him playing with us than against us to be honest.

Re: simeon rice
I can't believe how divided we are....<sob>
|
Re: simeon rice
Gee Wiz people...first you cry foul that we didn't draft a DE or DL. Then you cry foul that we did not look to free agency for a DE or DL. Now one comes along and we start acting all wishy washy? I say sign him up! Houshimazoli, Chamionship! Atleast you can be sure of one thing...he will be ready to play Tampa Bay. and since the bucs/Redskins games are becoming a good rivalry similar to Dallas it would be nice to have him to help slam the door on another NFC team.

He'd never sign for the vet minimum. He's not crazy. He turned down a multi-million dollar contract and will sign for big bucks somewhere else if not with us. He's still better than anyone we have on the DL (unless Griffin steps up) and all of our CB's but Springs. |
Re: simeon rice
A lot of people don't have much faith in Daniels, but he played ok last year, he just wasn't healthy for much of it. He plays hard & is a better run stopper than Rice I bet.
Plus he's a team leader. I'm not ready to give up on him just yet, though I realize at 34 we can't expect too much. |

Re: simeon rice
I would just like to point out that while I think that he would be a good addition, we cant afford him. We still havent signed LL, and people are already worried about a deal with Cooley. So would the production that we would gain by adding him be worth the headache and or heartache come time to get a deal done with Cooley.
