Rumor: Strahan to retire?
NFL radio just said they caught wind that Strahan's agent has contacted the club and said that he is seriously contemplating retirement. He also wasn't at the Giants facility yet.
This is just a rumor, but NFL radio is normally spot on. They think he probably wants more money, but who knows. |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
come on down I-95 and let the redskins over pay you, my son!

Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
LOL!
I laugh at the misfortune of the G-Men: 1) Tiki retired. 2) Strahan might be retiring. 3) Tom Coughlin is their coach. 4) Eli Manning is their quarterback! LOL LOL! Man am I glad I'm not a Giants fan! |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
I heard something about him holding out for more $$.

Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
Strahan is scheduled to make about $4 million this year. All his bonus money is in his ex-wife's pocket, and she keeps asking for more. This is likely posturing to get a new deal with some upfront cash.

Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
The Giants are going to be a 3-13 team this year.. I hate to see Coughlin get fired because I think he's a crappy coach and with the names available (Cowher, Schottenheimer) they may fall into a decent head coach next year..

Mulling retirement, Giants DE Strahan absent NFL.com wire reports ALBANY, N.Y. (July 27, 2007) -- Seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan failed to report to the New York Giants training camp, and he is mulling retirement, his agent told the team. "He is not here," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said after Strahan failed to report with veterans and rookies to the University at Albany. "Last night I talked to his agent (Tony Agnone) and his agent said to me at seven o'clock last night that he is contemplating retirement. That's all I know right now." Neither Reese nor coach Tom Coughlin has successfully contacted Strahan, although the 35-year-old who holds the NFL single-season record for sacks (22½ in 2001) left a message for Coughlin around 11:30 p.m. on July 26. Coughlin did not see the message until this morning. He left a telephone message for Strahan, but it was not immediately returned. "Obviously I am disappointed that he is not here," said Coughlin, who said that Strahan left no message other than to call him. "He is a very important part of our team, as we have talked all along. We are just going to have to wait for more information. Angone did not immediately return a telephone message left at his office by The Associated Press. Strahan, whose 132½ sacks are tops among active players, was not immediately available for comment. The Giants placed Strahan on their reserve-did not report to camp list, Reese said, adding that Agnone did not say why Strahan was considering retirement. Neither Coughlin nor Reese would say whether Strahan would be fined for missing camp until they spoke with him. Coughlin hoped the incident would not distract the team with its first practices scheduled for July 28. "We've had enough of those," Coughlin said of distractions which plagued the Giants during an 8-8 campaign in 2006. "At least we've dealt with it. Put it that way." There have been recent reports that Strahan was going to hold out because he felt he was being underpaid. However, many felt that Strahan was looking for more money after losing a bitter divorce this past summer to his former wife, Jean. Agnone did not talk about renegotiating Strahan's contract with Reese, who added that Strahan might be tired after 14 seasons. "I thought it was a little bit of a late notice, but that's the way the National Football League works some times," Reese said. "I just told him (Agnone) that if he's ready to retire, we wish him God's speed. Tony said he might wake up in the morning and say 'I want to play.' " Strahan, who missed half of last season with a foot injury, took part in the Giants offseason training program and minicamp. Despite his second major injury in three years, Strahan believed then that he was the NFL's best defensive end. "I can still pop on the film and show you I am still the best at what I do," Strahan said in June. "I mean, that's my opinion." If Strahan does retire, the Giants might consider moving second-year pro Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end. He played well there last year as a rookie, but the Giants moved the first-round draft choice to strongside linebacker in April in an attempt to get him more playing time. Reese said the team will have to move on if Strahan walks away. "I think he is a Hall of Fame football player, so obviously it's a big void," Reese said. "But we don't know anything yet. When we talk to him and get more information, you'll know." AP NEWS The Associated Press News Service |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
This looks like the beginning of a deep depression in NY
|
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
Yea right he's just lazy and doesn't want to go to camp. And with Coughlin as his coach I can't say I blame him.I bet he'll report in a week or two.
|
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
sign him for vet minimum!
(hahahahhahahahaha) |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
Damn, and I was just giving him props. I think the Giants are in trouble this year. Strahan isn't what he used to be, but he's an emotional leader on the field.
|
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
The prospect of training camp has this effect every year on guys like Strahan.
If it's true, I won't miss him. |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
Yeah!!!!!!!!!! Maybe now we can do what we should have been doing since Spurrier and sweep the pathetic Gmen!!!! Tiki killed us, but now possibly no more Strahan!!!!!! I hope Williams blitzes Landry often and Landry kills Eli!!!!!
"..... and the Gmen must be destroyed!!!!!!!" Cicero |

Man am I glad I'm not a Giants fan!
Pssssst....the Giant fans thank you!:) I have already stated that I believe this will be a rebuilding year for NY,Eli is not that big of a problem,RB maybe ...maybe not .The Defense I believe as in the last couple of years will be the problem,Strahan was going next year anyway We have a good young D line...LBers will be our big QUESTION..and as always our D backs must stay healthy we have a new kicker and I have no idea what he's like so ,a lot of questions but definetly not panick |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
giantone, what do you think the giants will do this season? Tiki retiring really hurts. and to me, this is a make or break season for Lil Manning
|
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
I think people are underestimating Eli a little bit. I think he'll be a very solid QB in this league. I think they're hurting at RB without Tiki and it depends on if Shockey and Burress can shutup and play. Their O-Line also needs some work.

I agree, I think Manning can sling the ball pretty good. Eli will accumulate a ton of stats, but he'll be right up there with the leaders in interceptions too. Things aren't looking too good in NY this year. Damn I can't wait to see my Skins this year!!!!!!!! |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
I think he's holding to squeeze some cash out of the g-girls....not so sure it's gonna work. Sure hope it doesn't the giants will be in the bottom of the barrel, he owes the ex massive cash, he'll be eating outta the dumpster.
A few parting words, don't let the door hit ya were the good LORD split ya gappy. That team is only about one more episode like this to imploding. |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
Y'all know what would be GREAT!!
Strahan goes to play for Detroit for like 5 mil/yr.....leaving the market for Simeon Rice drained.... then we pick him up late for 2.5 mil/yr for 3 years after signing Landry and Cooley to long term deals!! and yes....I am drinking a beer. |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
Money grab. Gotta be.
I don't think so. I think he's getting lazy in his old age. He wants to play one or two more years of football, but doesnt like training camp. |

As I said beore I think you guys win the divison with 9-7 then the Eagles and Cowgirls fip a coin and the Giants finish 7-9 with Coughlin gone the Giants hire Cowhere or John Fos (my Choice). |
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
guess he got tired of killing jansen the last couple of years. Jansen use to kill him when he first got in the league
|
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?

|
Re: Rumor: Strahan to retire?
