How Do U Feel About Stephen Heyer's Progress??

I watched the preseason games on NFL Network he looked good as a rookie and he has been up against pro bowl defense ends and has giving up a sack. When Campbell got sacked against the Titans that wasn't his responsibility that was the running back fault!!! Overall to be throwing in the fire like that he doing great. And the guys that have to adjust like that on the fly are the future pro bowlers. I hope so!!!

He's looking pretty solid so far. I think we may have a keeper to be honest.

So far so good. A very pleasant surprise, although no one on the O-Line has distinguished themselves in the running game which is the heart and soul of this team. We have to run the ball. In fairness, there are running plays they could and would be calling that would work a lot better against the defenses they are playing, but you would like to see some movement on 40 and 50.

I think he a keeper a future pro bowler he just need to be tweaked a little but he will giving Chris Samuels a run for his money if he keeps playing at this pace.

I've been very impressed by Heyer's play thus far. In my opinion, he's outplayed Jansen in the preseason.

I'm pretty impressed so far, but let's not get too crazy here, he's no Chris Samuels. Overall he seems to be a nice find though.

He's no Chris Samuels. The question may be, is he Todd Wade? Could Heyer find a home one spot in?

Has he ever played guard? Might be a bit much to expect him to learn a new position this late in camp.

I think we're all going a little nuts (not anyone specifically here but on a lot of skins boards) with this..."hey this guy plays oline, lets make him a left gaurd" type thing...I think thats why it was a big risk to put our LG all on having Todd Wade play there this season...he looks like (again, just one game he's played) but he looks like he may not workout.....but I dont think we can just expect anyone whos played on the oline to be able to play left gaurd.

good find, but not in the same caliber as samuels. someone in the scouting dept. was doing their homework

Re: How Do U Feel About Stephen Heyer Progress??

I think we're okay at Guard. Pucillo or Wade will be the answer. Leaning Pucillo now. The worry now seems to be backing up a gimpy Samuels and an aging Jansen. The question is Fabini or Heyer, correct? Is Heyer really a better bet than Fabini? They must not be impressed with Fabini at all. I know the Cowboys fans that lurk here were saying good riddance to him. It will be bumpy if Heyer has to play a lot. We need Samuels and Campbell to get healthy and stay that way. Samuels should pretend that every game is the Auburn game and Campbell should pretend that every game is the Alabama game.

What is wrong with everybody, this guy looks like a practice squader at best. He's a project player that needs to work on his technique. I noticed that everytime someone has broken into the backfield it's from that left side. He has been getting man-handled and we are gambling everytime Jason takes a snap with Heyer protecting his blind side. I don't know what it is about everyone praising this kid; maybe its the fact that he went to Maryland.

Does anyone know whos man got free and almost ended Campbell's season before it even began...

Stephon Heyer will NEVER be a guard in the NFL...I have watched him behind the scenes at Maryland and his achilles heal was, and still is, that he doesn't get low enough. He almost stands too tall even for a tackle and this causes him to have pretty bad footwork. He can survive at tackle because of his raw size, but the second u ask him to pull (as a guard) he will be exposed. After talking with him for about 5 minutes or even overhearing his interactions with the coaches its also obvious that he doesn't have the mental toughness/mean streak that successful NFL guards and centers usually have. However his counterpart at maryland (Jared Gaither) had/has great footwork and is much more versatile. I bet he is going to be good in this league too (as he stepped in for ogden this week and didn't do horribly). Don't get me wrong I love Heyer and I want to see him do really well. I just wouldnt put my money on him succeeding at any spot other than tackle.

Really good rookie talent/depth. Nice catch, of course no CS, that goes without saying.

But could turn out to be a long term GREAT catch.

Seems like a pretty good analysis.

Looks like a 'wait and see' on this guy.

Wait 3 weeks and see Samuels come back.

Seriously, he has done better than I expected.

The player of note was the Steelers RDE, and he was Heyer's responsibility to block on that particular play. He demonstrated a lackluster atempt at a block which could have been a true disaster. The kid has some potential, and could be good in time, but right now he scares the hell out of me. He has played well on ocasions, but it only takes one time (like saturday night) to make a rookie mistake and end the season for a QB that shows so much promise, and has worked so hard in the off-season.

He's decent. He'll end up as an OK tackle.

Re: How Do U Feel About Stephen Heyer's Progress??

I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm cautious because I have seen us fall in love with many UFAs simply because they show some ability (e.g., Garnell Wilds). I'm also cautious because we've seen him play in just two preseason games, he's had help from the TEs and backs, and we've still had trouble opening up lanes and have trouble in pass protection on the left side of the line.

I'm optimistic, however, because it is unusual to see a UFA rookie start at any position, let alone the most important one on the line. I'm also optimistic because I trust in Buges and doubt he would stick a UFA rookie at LT unless he thought the kid had some potential.

Re: How Do U Feel About Stephen Heyer's Progress??

Heyer will be fine at what he'll spend the season doing...backing up Chris Samuels. He will be a good tackle one day, but he's got a ways to go. He's just a stopgap until Samuels trots back onto the field.

It goes to show you how Fabini has done...to have an undrafted rookie come in and start 2 games over a veteran. If Samuels is not ready for Game 1, the Skins better keep a TE on that side of the ball to help Heyer block.

Thank you. I think people have a tendency to get caught up in players progress. Everyone was talking about Whittaker a month ago and where is he now?

This guy is nobody as far as I'm concerned right now, other than a stand-in tackle who was almost responsible for the Redskins season going down the drain.

For Christ's sake I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.

Are we really talking about this guy?
