Surprise - Winslow Plays Hard to Get!

Winslow Rejects Brown's Offer\

Our favorite "soldier-boy" Kellen Winslow II has rejected an offer by the Browns which *matched* what the Skins gave to Taylor - one spot ahead of him! That is an amazing deal since lower picks almost always get lower $$ contracts - but as expected KWII and the Postons werent' satisfied. Looks like he'll be AWOL for training camp. The contract they offered would have been more than Tony Gonzalez is making! Apparently, KWII wants to be paid more than A-Rod and Shaq...

Anyone still upset that we didn't land this ass-clown?

That Guy 07-30-2004 03:53 PM

mmm... ass-clowns... what a joke, i feel better about taylor already.

Skins fan 44 07-30-2004 03:58 PM

What a joke. He is going to get booed everywhere he goes at this rate. Cleveland ought to right now withdraw its offer and offer less. If he dont sign then trade his butt. Who would want him though with the price he is asking? Maybe he will get smart and fire the Polstens-i doubt it though. They deserve each other.

That's the best news I've heard all day.

At least he's still a soldier...

SKINSnCANES 07-30-2004 04:44 PM

I still wouldnt mind having winslow, hes a great TE. But when he named the Postons as his agents then there was no point in picking him.

Imagine if Winslow picked an agent the skins liked, like Rosenhaus, then fired them after the draft...lol

Riggo44 07-30-2004 05:35 PM

:laughing- :laughing- :laughing- Thank God we Drafted Taylor!! :food-smil

Hogskin 07-30-2004 05:35 PM

He may have, except I don't think he (and mainly his father) had a CLUE how seriously the Redskins wanted to avoid Postons. There are supposedly 5 NFL teams that WILL NOT draft anyone they represent. If Winslow has a major holdout, I would expect that number to dramatically increase. Their rep just keeps sinking with every stupid move they make.

Cush 07-30-2004 06:25 PM

Yeah, Frank Herzog on Channel 9 (DC Area) was laughing about it, saying the Redskins made the right choice with Taylor

Winskins 07-30-2004 07:18 PM

I think the players know exactly what they're getting into when they pick their agents. For example, Robert Gallery told his agents to make sure that he had a deal in place before the start of training camp. Further, our own Sean Taylor picked agents who he knew would get him into camp on time (he knew the value that being around for training camp would have).

The Postons represent everything negative about the agent stereotype. They have consistently made their clients holdout for extended periods of time. Some of the players they represent that have been slapped with the franchise tag have been instructed by the Postons to skip camp. They represent football as a financial decision, not a sport, not a passion. They are agents who teach players about money rather than loyalty and teamwork.

Bottomline: I guess, to a certain extent, you can tell what kind of player someone is by the agent they pick.

That Guy 07-30-2004 07:21 PM

the postons are jokes, they always recommend holding out to try and pressure teams into more money... they've gotten their way, but at a high price... some clubs have stopped dealing with them, and each time they rachet for another million, more bridges burn... i can't believe anyone would bother dealing with them.

Winskins 07-30-2004 07:28 PM

Who wants to start an "anti-postons" website?

redrock-skins 07-30-2004 09:38 PM

This makes me more glad each day that we picked Taylor. It would be real funny if Kellen sits out all the way through our matchup with the Browns.

redwagonskins 07-31-2004 11:38 AM

He turned down a contract to make him the highest paid TE ever!!!! More than Gonzalez, more than Shockey. And he turned down a contract equal to Taylor. 60 receptions last year x 5 years = 300 total receptions in a 20million $$ contract that's $66,666.67 a reception!
I hope this chucle-head holds out all pre-season.
What a jackass.

Winslow Sr says Taylor got a bad deal

That Guy 07-31-2004 05:32 PM

he wants more than shockey or gonz without even 1 down of nfl performance under his belt...

SKINSnCANES 08-01-2004 12:33 AM

hes going to get more than shockey, hands down. He was drafted a lot higher and Shockey is still on his rookie contract. And its not unrealistic for him to get more than Tony to, the thing is that he was the 6th pick in the draft, which be default gets him a lot of money even though hes just a te.

love them hogs 08-01-2004 03:09 AM

Im glad we didnt pick winslow. It sounds like he would have rubbed J.G the wrong way and would have been a waist of a pick.Taylor was the correct choice for the team (imo).I can just see the Postons sitting with the Browns F\O asking where the F there fruit basket is !!!

I think it is extremely unusual for a player to get a higher rookie contract than the top player at his position. Even Eli at number 1 did not come close. That last statement sounds like something his agent would say... LOL

Eli at number one has the second most guaranteed (bonus) money in the history of the NFL. That's nothing to sneeze at. If his brother didn't sign for $34.5 million in bonus money a few months ago, he would be first.

That Guy 08-01-2004 11:48 PM

If his brother didn't sign for 34.5mill, then he wouldn't have been offered nearly that much. He's rougher now than peyton was when he came out, but his big bro is kinda super-awesome, so...

Hogskin 08-02-2004 08:06 AM

A couple problems with this. First, we were discussing total contract value, not just bonuses. Eli is not #2 by a long shot. Then, as far as "guaranteed", that $20 million "bonus" is not. It is actually 5 bonuses, some paid down the road for making the roster.

I would have just passed on this, but my post was an attempt to show how ridiculous the Postons' demands are, and couldn't just watch an attempt to rationalize their foolishness. I hope they stand their ground, and Cleveland stands theirs. Would love to see him home for the start of the season!! He could have been on the field now with a team that would have featured him in their offense, instead of getting drafted by a team with an offense in disarray. The Skins F/O has to be rolling on the floor over this one.
