Who Would/Wouldn't You Work For?
I want to hear about companies you would work for and companies you wouldn't.
Wouldn't: 1. Microsoft. 2. Electronic Arts. 3. Amazon.com. Would: 1. Red Hat. 2. Google 3. Walt Disney. |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't Work For?

|
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't Work For?
Seems like we're just picking companies out of a hat. Does anybody want to provide reasons?
I work in healthcare, so I guess I'd say I wouldn't want to work for Tenet (They're a financial mess right now, not to mention controversial). Otherwise, just about any healthcare system would be good. |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't Work For?
Would:
*Government (especially IRS or NSA) *Military *Halliburton :) Would not: *Any of the media (print, TV, other) *Starbucks *AOL *Rothchild's Sewage and Septic Sucking Services (where our business is your *business*) |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't Work For?
Reason is simple, what companies have you formed a negative or positive about? I suppose people can elaborate if they wish.
MS, EA, and Amazon work you to death. Your soul will die within these companies' hallways. Disney IT pays awfully well and I have never see any other company with the kind of benefits they offer. Google allows you work on your stuff one day a week. Red Hat, because I like the idea of hacking the Linux Kernel. |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't Work For?
Would:
National Recreation and Park Association - my ideal job is working as a park ranger at a national park. Wouldn't: Military - Too much bureaucracy. |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't Work For?
Would: myself! ;)
Wouldn't: Progressive (I actually already have and it's a horrible, horrible place to work.) |

Wouldn't: Progressive (I actually already have and it's a horrible, horrible place to work.)
I had big problems with Progressive so I did a job search on them. EVERYONE hates to work for them. Go to jobvent.com, that is a great site! |

Well, I don't think anyone who LOVES their job would post there, it's probably not a really reliable place to check out an employer. :D |

Did you look at the website??? They have companies on there that people write about that they love as well. Though I do agree the title of the web site does preposition people to want to say bad things. |

I can vouch for what's posted there about Progressive, in fact some of those posts are mine. The company is just as bad as the posts say. |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't Work For?
I haven't had enough bad experiences to single out a company I wouldn't work for, but the best company I have worked for was the American Funds.
Great, company to work for. Not perfect, but a great place to be employed. |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't You Work For?
So why aren't you there anymore? :D

Re: Who Would/Wouldn't You Work For?
I can't believe no one has said they'd work for Hugh Hefner!
I would work for the local, state or federal government. I wouldn't work for a manuacturing company. |
Re: Who Would/Wouldn't You Work For?
After thinking about it some more I don't think I would want to work for Google. Can you imagine working at a place where ~2000 employees are multimillionaires and ~8000 are not?

Civilian Government employee is the way to go. Retire after 20 years and then go into the private sector. While being a contractor has it's share of intrigue, as soon as the contract is up you may find yourself looking for a job with another company. I am a Contractor and I am busting my ass to get a Government job. I would hate to waste 9 years I have already put towards a Federal retirement. |

Yeah, GS would be a good way to go. My wife and I are both IT and we want to get into the Fed system, possibly for DOD overseas. She's got her Top Secret clearance, I have Secret... we're both veterans. You'd think we'd be in already but we're waiting for her to graduate. |
