Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

I didn't know that he suffered any type of injury during the game.

Hope this doesn't elminate some of our options at RB depth

I think Rock is gonna contiinue to be a good back up

There is a difference between released and IR... you may want to change your subject line..

Won't hurt us much though. RB is about the only position on the offense I think we are good at.

So does this lock us in now with

Portis
Betts
Rock
Sellers
Beasley

Does Mason have a shot?

I hope so, I really like him.. He is raw but a possible gem for back-up..

I would think Mason would at least be put on the Practice Squad. I just hope some other team doesn't claim him off of waivers before he gets there.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

I actually think Mason could make it over Beasley. I don't think Rock was in any serious jeorpardy of being cut anyway.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

Yeah I don't see Rock getting cut just for the simple fact that he is such a good Special teamer. Other than Rock who can return Kickoffs? I know we have other options but I don;t think we want Randle EL, Moss, or Betts to be injured on KO duties.

Beasley's a fullback, Mason a TB. Of course, they could keep an extra tb, but who would back up Sellers? Who was his backup last year? All I remember was a couple of the TEs playing some fullback when Sellers wasn't.

Exactly. Who backed up Sellers last year?

Rock used to be a fullback, perhaps he could backup there again. I know Mason is looking really good but there just isn't room for him on the roster. I hope we keep him on the practice squad though.

Didn't they use Koslowski or something?

Yup, that's exactly what they did. And that was very limited action.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

sounds like Beasley makes the roster if he can still block half as good as he used to. He was a tough FB

Portis, Betts and Rock are the top 3. That's all we really need to know.

Pretty much, pretty much.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

Hey isn't Rock about done with his contract in Washington? Wouldn't this be his last season?

If so, I could see him getting snatched up by another team next year, a la Robert Royal and Dockery.

I think you're right. If he makes the team this year, which I expect him to, I expect him to get an extension.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

This could come back to bite us pretty seriously if Portis misses a few weeks here and there due to his knee flaring up. While Betts and Cartwright are both very good RBs, the combination of minor injuries plus fatigue could put us in situations where we line up a less than ideal player in the backfield in a crucial situation.

Better Blaylock to IR than Portis or Betts, but our depth is not that good at RB relative to the rest of the league.

Ideally this won't be an issue, but you never know.

I could be wrong but i thought one of his backups was Christian Fauria

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

Gibbs has kept 4 rbs every year so far, so Mason has a pretty decent shot.

Well, a shame for Derrick, but hopefully my boy Mason makes the team.

Not exactly. Koz was more of an H-back in Gibbs offense. So occasionally he actually would line up in the backfield as a fullback or on the line of scrimmage.

I didn't even realize they re-signed Dee Brown. He could have the advantage with his experience

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

I can see it unfold as such:

RB: Portis, Betts, Cartwright, Brown
FB: Sellars, Beasley
PS: Mason

I dont see them dropping Mason outright...he's done ok in the preseason, and would give us the depth in case one of the top 2 dogs go down.

Funny that they would put him on IR, wouldn't they just release him? I guess they thought enough of him not to.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

I would put Mason on the team over Dee Brown. Mason is young and based on what we've seen has potential and could be a good NFL back someday. If Portis and Betts went down I'd love to see Mason in there as the main back. I'd put him in over Cartwright simply because Cartwright is the main return guy and also a good special teamer. Cartwright would take the backup carries though lol.

Re: Derrick Blaylock Placed on Injured Reserve

Why are people worried about the 4th tailback? Blaylock was going to be in street clothes in week one.

Worry about something relevant like whether Samuels and Kendall will click early on.
