2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
From an ESPN Article:
• A few more draft choices were released than usual. More than 40 picks have been cut since the start of training camp in July. (In 2006, 40 draft choices cut, 27 were cut in 2005 and 45 were released in 2004.) The surprises this year were the first-day cuts. The Cardinals cut third-round middle linebacker Buster Davis. Raiders third-rounder Quentin Moses, a defensive end, was released even though he had a partial guarantee to his contract. The Steelers cut fourth-rounder Ryan McBean, a defensive end. The Saints whacked fourth-rounder Antonio Pittman, a running back from Ohio State. Should we try to sign one of the DE's? |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
yes!!! this guy was a potential first round pick at the beginning of last college fball season. He'll come at a bagain price!

Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
Id go after Moses, he played at a big time school and was pretty darn good.

Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
Personally, I'm sick of seeing the Redskins picking through other teams' trash.

Well you better embrace it because we left one roster spot open for someone, likely a wide receiver, and whomever it is will be someone's trash. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
Anyone that was cut even with a partial guarantee must suck!!!!!!!!
|
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
We feel the Raiders were not giving Quentin the proper motivation.

But a 2007 3rd rounder .. thats like above the fresh, above-the-cylinder trash. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
LOL! I thought of that movie the other day becuase I was on a date and we didn't have enough in common to really carry a long conversation so they started to go ape shit and say how I need to learn how to effectivley talk to people.
Then they busted out the "At Least I HAVE PEOPLE SKILLS DAMNIT" as they go storming out. God I loved every second of it. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
The Bobs. Nice.
One man's trash is another man's depth at D-line. Certainly worth looking at, as I'm sure our FO is right now. But WR comes first, no doubt. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
i think we shoulda kept hoag

Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
@70Chip: Awesome movie there lolol.
Personally, I would go after Quentin Moses. He's at least worth a look, plus he's young and coachable. He might just need some motivation. As for that whole picking up someone else's trash story, it reminds me of a story my English teacher once told me about college. He had a couch for like, a hella lot of years, and he finally decided to get rid of it one day in college, because it had stains and wear and tear and a lot of memories on it. So he put it on the curb, left for his class, and by the time he came back some other college kid had come along and picked it up for their personal use. The moral of the story is, people pick up other people's trash all the time, no matter how bad it is. The same applies to all these kids that just got cut. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
Word on the street is that Quentin Moses just got picked up off waivers by the Cardinals. Darn.

Yeah, they struck pretty quick. Id liked to have given that kid a shot, but we've got Bochitti, so we're golden. LOL. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
We got Buzzbee who looks pretty good!!
Practice Squad Working to get a few more things confirmed, but here are 5 guys they have signed for the 8 man practice squad. DE Alex Buzbee (Georgetown kid showed well) CR Byron Westbrook (local kid was an immediate hit but has a ways to go) LB Anthony Trucks (he worked his butt off in camp and glad to see him rewarded) LB Matt Sinclair (he and Chris Wilson often last two guys off the field adn out of the building on defense) CB John Eubanks (went neck and neck with torrence for 5th CB spot) That's a pretty good haul for the defnese and seems like they were able to keep most of what they wanted. I would think Bell the FB and Jordan Plamer (QB) would be there as well unless someone else signed them. Maybe Lefotu, too. Skins also looking around at WRs and other options for the roster. Will post more when I get it. |

I really think Trucks especially could develop into a really solid backup, and Eubanks into a 3rd or 4th CB. Oh yeah, you should credit JLC on that too. |

Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
i'd get moses... we need the depth and he'd be cheap with SOME upside.

Moses is gone dude, Cardinals swooped in. I agree, that kid could be a real find. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
They need a WR and should trade W/ Tampa Bay for Michael Clayton.

Im gonna disagree with you, unless they would let him go for a 6th rounder, we need to keep our picks for once and build this team's depth. |

Oh most definitely, I'm looking at giving at most a 5th rounder, no more. I worry about Gabriel having been cut twice by the Raiders and once by the Patriots. |

the skins are just doing what every other team in the league does. |

I dont know how waivers works...is it like a lottery? Did the skins even have a chance to pick him up or was it not their turn or something? |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
the skins are just doing what every other team in the league does.
Yep, there are 31 other teams right now in addition to the Skins looking at who's available. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
I dont know how waivers works...is it like a lottery?
Did the skins even have a chance to pick him up or was it not their turn or something?
Waivers works like this. Remember the draft order from this year and how the Redskins were 6th? Well, it works the same way for Waivers. Oakland is first on the waiver wire, and when they say no, Detroit gets a chance, and etc. You should get the point. If the Cards had said no to Moses we would've been able to pick him up because we were next in the pecking order. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
I hate hearing "Why should we look at another teams trash"
So much in this league has to do with the system, how you fit in, and things surrounding you. Look at Trotter. He played great for the Eagles, came here and sucked, went back and played very well for the Eagles again. Sometimes a player just needs a new home, a change of scenery, or a system they work better in. Mosses is worth the look, the contract will be reasonable. Lets also remember, the raiders have arguably the best defense in the NFL. It's a hard squad to make. |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
The Raiders do have a great defense, they just get frequently overlooked due to the teams success.
|
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
I have to be pretty wary of any first day pick who got cut. Those guys get the chances and every opportunity to show what they can do. If that investment of time and money isn't enough to keep them on the roster alone then there has to be something seriously amiss. It's not like a 5th rounder who was going to need to impress to make the team. First day picks are supposed to have the talent to start eventually. If they got cut then someone doesn't think they do.
|
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
Anyone know anything about WR David Ball? He cut cut by the Bears then signed to their pratice squad.
He holds just about every record in I-AA but is a little slow. Can you go after a guy thats signed to someone else's pratice squad? |
Re: 2007 1st day draft picks released. Worth a look?
There is more to the moses cut than we know. The raiders even though they had a horrible year still have a respectable defense. If they cut him then that plainly says there is definatley something wrong with this kid. Pittman was in a bad situation with bush and mccallister, but we do not need another back. As for the other Buster Davis i watched him play at Florida state and thought he would be a good NFL linebacker. Who knows what is going on in Arizona, No one ever does.

From what I've heard Moses was getting outplayed by guys who were picked lower than him, he wasn't picking up at all on run defenses, and-perhaps most importantly-he had a bad attitude that the Raiders just didn't want to deal with |

Yeah, the first half is A++. The second half runs out of steam. I was trying to reference Office Space but either way. I only have about 5 movies on DVD and those are two of them, so it's interesting you mentiopn that. Probably a subconcious thing on my part. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman is with me always... |
