Smooooot Nooooooo
Can someone tell me how he dropped that pick?? That had TD and game over written all over it.
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
Shawn Springs makes that pick. Smoot let it hit his body instead of catching it with his hands. That would have been sweet though
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
Smoot played like dog poop. Can he play bump and run at all?
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
Springs said on Postgame Live that Smoot blamed it on sitting next to Carlos Rogers too much and his butterfingers rubbed off on him.

I guess the answer to your sig is an Andre Carter sack |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
i really think this could of been discussed in the game thread. :p
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
I just do not understand why Smoot is starting over Springs. Looks like it's going to be another year of dropping easy Int's.
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
that will change every week

Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
^ u mean like when we deserved the nfc championship game and carlos rogers dropped 6 points which led to a TD and a loss?
i sure hope not..... but smoot really need not start over springs at ALL.... hell i'd throw in david macklin or travis fisher, smoot upset me alot today... but, I still have fAITH in him as nickel or dime. |

Does anyone know why David Macklin was inactive today? |

Crazy. He should always be starting if healthy. I think some people expect Smoot to be better than he really is. He, like Rogers, is a solid #2/#3 CB but he's not elite. Still...he's gotta play better than he did today. A lot of people do. I'll take the win though :) And do we even have Fisher? |

JLC reported that the team likes Torrence on special teams. He wasn't injured and it's surprising/disappointing to learn that a UFA special-teams CB beat-out a guy who took less pay to come to D.C. (the Eagles offered him more money, but Macklin grew up a Skins fan). |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
As I've said before, that play it was very important a completion didnt happen. Smoot was in position, which is good. While I would have loved that to be a pick, knocking it down was a damn good play in itself.
Smoot had some good plays today, and he had some plays that weren't so hot. I really think Smoot will get his swagger back soon. |

And do we even have Fisher?
no fisher plays for the lions and he dropped it because he was to happy about scoring in his first game back at FedEx and got too excited and he dropped it. 9 out of 10 times he catches that. |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
If Rogers and Springs are healthy I believe they should always be starting. Smoot is good but he's not starting material. I saw a few plays today where he didn't play smart, and when he dropped that pick I was so pissed, that would've been the game right there. He should work on his hands as well.

But didn't Rogers have 10 dropped INTs last year, or something like that? He was in position a lot last year from what I recall |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
You guys are acting like Rogers played well today. He sucks ass and a huge liability.
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
I agree, I don't think Rogers played well at all today, as for Smoot he played decent I think he will get better down the road. Springs is the only corner that I think played good (from what I saw). Springs had a really nice tackle that stopped them on 3rd.

Hopefully today reminded a lot of people (Redskins fans especially) that Springs and Portis are very very good players and we shouldn't be so quick to cast them aside. I gotta say though, that PI call on Rogers was pretty lousy |

And that's a good thing? 9 times out of 10, Smoot is going to pick that ball of and take it to the house. This just happened to be that one time he didn't. Rogers hasn't proven anything to me at all so far. Smoot has proven himself to be a solid CB, albeit not a #1 CB. |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
Our corners were playing that 10 yard cushion crap again. Did last year teach us anything?
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
^ eh, he had the arm bar but it was NOT catchable so in a sense lousy yes.

Of course it's not a good thing. What I'm saying is our problem last year didn't seem to be being in position to make the INT, it was not capitalizing on the good position. Rogers and Smoot both need to step up. No question |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
I still wanna know why Springs was not starting. That is a big WTF to me.
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
They played a lot of zone today which is playing into Green's strengths. Plus, very little blitzing which doesn't help. You noticed it in pre-season and again today that there are times when our back seven looks lost in zone coverage. They were much more conservative than I would have expected. Perhaps they are saving it for Philly.
I don't know what gives with Springs. Is he hurt? Is he fueding with Williams? There's no way he's not the #1 corner. |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
I would like to see a lot less zone next week, when we play zone we play it way too loose.
|
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
85% chance Smoot gets hurt this year and misses multiple games. He cannot tackle the way Springs and Rogers do. ANd he has hands as bad as Rogers@!
|

Rogers doesn't "suck ass". He didn't have a great game, but the interference call was BS. Other than that, Green only threw at him a few times today. Smoot on the other hand, got nickel and dimed all friggin day, and dropped a likely game winning pick. |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
He looked awful. I want the Washington Fred Smoot not the Minnesota Fred Smoot.

He's just still a below average cover guy. He deserves credit for taking care of his man most of the time, but in the NFL we really need more of that from him. He's still getting beat far too much for comfort. |
Re: Smooooot Nooooooo
I practically crapped myself on the INT drop. Other than that, corners are going to give up some plays, it's the nature of the position. All in all our CB's seemed to be in bend don't break mode. I must say that I am shocked at SS not starting. What's the dilly yo?

I'm still not sure what people are expecting from Rogers. He's not Champ Bailey, but no one is. It's completely irrational to expect any corner in the league to give up zero pass completions. And what exactly did Fred Smoot do today to outplay Rogers? Half of the Dolphins offense resulted from pass completions to Fred Smoots side. |

It'd be nice to see Carlos get a lot more aggressive so we can finally see what we have in him. This 80 yard cushion stuff isn't going to cut it next year when Springs isn't around. And if this is a schematic thing, boy those LBs better start hauling ass into that curl zone if we want to win this year. |

And do we even have Fisher?
i totally agree. smoot is a good 3rd corner. a good team player, and a good tackler. not a bad part of a defense as a 3rd corner. period. a 3rd corner |
