The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
What the hell...
Santana Moss? Too many drops, the game might not have been as close if he comes down with those catches. C'mon Santana, you've gotta make those catches. Chris Cooley? Other than the big catch at the end on 3rd down he was non-existent. I'm not positive on this but it seemed that the first pick by Campbell might have been due to Cooley not running a crisp route. Fred Smoot? You've gotta make that INT when it hits you in the hands like that. That would have ended the game right there. Randle El? 162 yards? Where was this guy last year? If he can keep playing this well and when Moss gets on track this passing game could be very dangerous. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
How about ,the Dolphins are going to go for the touchdown on fourth and goal on the two??? What the hell.
Or,The Redskins are going to kick the field goal on first down.....From fortey yards out???What the hell. I know that both of those decisions worked out but I was saying what the hell when they happened. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Shawn Springs? How are you not starting, could you not find your helmet a la Thurman Thomas?
Brandon Lloyd? C'mon, make just one play. One play is all I ask You? Yeah that's right I'm talking about you. You insisted we were going to lose today. And you're a Skins fan. Where are you now? You know who you are |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
I don't think Lloyd timed his jump well and honestly it looked like a half-hearted effort.
|
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Someone mentioned this in another thread,
But ST and Landry, where the hell where you guys? It seemed like you all were nowhere near the players. I guess this becomes more of a what the hell for GW. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Why do the refs have to have a ten minute conversation about every flag that's not a false start? I mean, what the hell?
|

It's a good thing when the safeties aren't making a ton of tackles. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Oh yeah I missed one. What the hell was up with us getting that B.S false start on the exact same motion play that we drew the other team offsides in the preseason. That exact same shift was not a penalty in the pre-season so why is it a penalty now?
|
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Brandon Lloyd. Why did we bring this guy to Washington?
|

Yep, bad call |

Seriously... Lloyd's only real claim to fame other than his bitching is he can make the spectacular catch. Campbell tosses it up and gives him a chance to make a play, and he can't even keep it away from the defender. And Portis? Tendonitis my ass. What the hell?! |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Why did I have to work today and miss the game? What the hell.
|
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Jason Campbell - When did you get all Robo-Arm on us??? from the 35 yard line to the endzone with a HIGH arc??? It didn't even look like he put everything into the throw. I get about 40 yards with a 5 yard run-up AND throwing a NFL JR ball.

And Portis? Tendonitis my ass. What the hell?!
LT also has "tendinitis". It is basically an excuse to keep him out of the preseason I think. I will take it, he looked great today. As for Lloyd that jump ball in the end zone should have been his. And I think the reason Randle El got all that attention is because they took Cooley and everyone else practically out of the game (I know Moss dropped a lot). I think next week we will see the Eagles have a tougher time especially if Lito Sheppard is still hurt. |

We were discussing this in the "ugly thread" if you're interested. I would just explain for Deirdorf's sake if for no one else's that there is a difference between a shift and a motion. With formation shifts you can move multiple players but they have to reset before the snap and there are other protocols that have to be followed. Motion has to be one person and they can be moving at the snap of the ball but not towards the line of scrimmage. Etc. Etc. The refs are supposed to know this stuff by heart, yet they made a crappy explanation. Just say "illegal shift". And don't take 45 minutes to do it either. That just leads me to believe they didn't know what happened. Somebody throws a flag then they all get together and look at each other like they have no idea what's going on. |

I think it is safe to say that this play will not be used again this year. Great design though. |

And Portis? Tendonitis my ass. What the hell?!
Yeah... and I was one of the first people during pre-season to suggest Portis suffered from "pre-seasonitis" instead of tendinitis and I got called out for it. WTH?! |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
ARE had half as many yards in todays game as he did all of last season. What the hell?

This is what we needed. They try to take away Moss and Cooley (though Moss had some balls he should have caught) the other guy needs to step up. I wouldn't be looking for this every week, but, boy what if did step it up? Everybody would be singing a different tune about the Redskins. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Now we need Lloyd to have a game like that when they take everyone away.
|
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Jason Campbell first pass what the hell?
|
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Everytime the ref makes a call on the skins hes grinning from ear to ear? ..... What the hell? There were times I wanted to rip off his face!
Btw, nice call on number 44, numb nuts! |

Because Sellers went in motion in the backfield at the same time. He tried to play it off, but you can't have two guys in motion like that once everyones set. |

Btw, nice call on number 44, numb nuts!
Yeah. I always try to avoid sounding like a dumbass and accusing the refs of intentionally making bad calls, but I swear it seems like the Redskins get the brunt of shitty calls every season(Rogers interference???). I'm glad Coach Gibbs goes over the calls every week, and calls out the officiating committee on the bad ones. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Hey Smoot and Carlos! Play some damn bump and run. What the hell was that 10 yard cushion crap?

I believe that it is only considered motion if you are still moving when the ball is snapped. The ball hadnt been snapped yet when the d jumped offsides so it is considered a shift.I know that you can shift more than one player at a time because the Skins do it all the time.Like I said before, that exact same play was not a penalty in the pre-season.The refs huddled up and called the penalty on the D in the pre-season. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
1- Gibbs making a decision to keep in Betts (a fumbler from last year) at the end of the game instead of giving it to Portis who looked GREAT.
2- Gibbs calling a time out with around 1:15 minutes left in the game on a 3rd down which ultimately gave a lot of time to the Fins, luckily they sucked too much to do anything with it. 3- Portis was running wild, and instead of running it in OT, Gibbs goes for a FIRST DOWN 40 YARD FIELD GOAL??? With an unproven kicker none the less? Campbell throwing a pick on the first pass play of the season!!!! |

Someone (and no it wasn't me) said at halftime we should put Collins in the game.
What the hell? |

When you're 3rd and 7, you need to make sure everyone knows what they're supposed to be doing. Maybe someone noticed that a player was out of position. If they didn't convert then the Miami D gets plenty of time to rest due to change of possession. 3) I liked the call to go ahead and kick. If they miss, I believe they still have 3 other chances. Why risk a backfield sack, fumble or tackle for loss? If Suisham can't hit a 39 yarder with the game on the line Week 1 is a good time to find out instead of Week 16. |
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
No, once you kick a field goal your possession is over.
|
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
What the hell, Mike Sellers? Do you have to wait for half the team to bring you down or can you just let one or two defenders make the tackle? I mean, come on, make it fair for crying out loud, you friggin' man-beast.

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
As I said before, once you kick it or punt it, regardless of the down your possession is up.
|
Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
i think that if its a bad snap or something like that the holder can fall on it or attempt a fake for the first down or touchdown and then try another fg next play if they want. as long as the FG is not ACTUALLY attempted. am i right ?

We don't get another chance if he misses the kick. But if it's a botched snap or the hold is bad, or a penalty. Then it just becomes 2nd down. |

I like the guy, but don't take a chance of fumbling late in the 4th.
2) The timeout was not that bad. If they didn't convert then the Miami D gets plenty of time to rest due to change of possession.
They called it almost immediately after the previous play, so it wasn't due to someone out of position. It was for to make sure everyone was on the same page, but it didn't work at all. Instead, it gave the Dolphins a better way to rest up to stop us and get on their same page.
3) I liked the call to go ahead and kick. If they miss, I believe they still have 3 other chances. Why risk a backfield sack, fumble or tackle for loss? If Suisham can't hit a 39 yarder with the game on the line Week 1 is a good time to find out instead of Week 16.
Umm, no...once you kick, the play is over no matter what the result. The only way we would have another "shot" at it is if it was a botched snap and we fell on it, but once the kicker touches his foot to the ball, there is no going back, and no more chances. Don't know where you got that, but you do not get 3 chances at it. Portis was running through their best run defense, he could have easily gotten at least 5-7 more yards. While I do agree, I want to know if Suisham can handle the pressure, you don't waste 3 downs of probably getting more yardage when your kicker has proven NOTHING. |
